I had Mercedes sedans in my youth; 2 Diesels and a 6 cylinder gas. The older Sprinter I have now has 166K miles. I change the oil (Shell T6, 5W40) for $75 (including filter) and the trans fluid for $65. I had my first problem at $160K with a #2 cylinder fuel injector seat leaking. Three hours of work and $11 for a pack of 5 seal washers and it runs like new again. I added the air foil at the back to improve fuel mileage (approx 3 miles better per gallon at 40mph and above). The Sprinter 5 cylinder I have is just right for my furniture making business and getting all those other jobs done. I added the 2 place MB seat in the back of the van. This van will take me to the end of my driving career. If you use a dealer for maintenance then the cost is almost beyond imagination at $175-200 per hour. Unless you can do the work yourself and you know about Diesel mechanics; I doubt the average American owner can afford the short or long term expense of a Sprinter. I just recently put Koni shocks on the front of the '06 and those were $100 less per shock than the dealer wanted for the parts. I have tried Sachs, KYB, Bilstein and now am very happy with Koni shocks. If you have questions about the 5 cylinder Sprinter just give me a shout.
I love my high top, long wheel base Sprinter. I do bathrooms and kitchens and this is the perfect ride! I had a Chevy extended cab 2500HD with a Royal body and rack before the Sprinter and that Vortec got 10 mpg on a good day down hill. Now, I get 23 mpg with every tool I need on board! Never had a hiccup or a misstep. LOVE it! I drive and average of 600 miles per week and they are a joy. It is like being in a fish bowl with the huge windshield though.
Dodge had the sprinter from back in 2006. Just saying sprinters shouldn't be anything new to anyone. There's a few ways around the 10 mpg in an American van, but let's not forget the thing is a little bit better overtaking on the straights. That's not to say it's a speedster it's just the subtle hint of race breed american engineering urging you to give the ecu a tune. Correctly interpreted you can say the Mercedes is better tailored from the factory for fleet work out of the box compared to american vans. Where american vans would be better suited out of the box for a larger variety of applications such as towing more, as they are rated for towing more. You can even get a duramax now thats more efficient. 33mpg. But this video was posted 6yrs ago now. Making the Duramax of that year or around that time a great option at 23mpg, again not a fuel sipper, but just urging to give the ecu a tune to your specific liking. You can't beat that. That's not even actual mods that you cant do on a sprinter van because you don't have any excess space on the chassis. Not saying its the only way obviously but when you know what you're dealing with, and you way the costs, you'll see that american vans are actually a compelling option not to be downplayed.
My wife and I have a 2009 2500 Extra long wheelbase ERA Winnebago Sprinter conversion and we absolutely love it. It is everything we need and want both for our production business and when traveling the country. Let the dislikers dislike for whatever reason - it is what it is.
I share the same passion. I'm on my 3rd Sprinter van and I have the 4 cylinder 7speed transmission model. Love this thing. I got the 2014 Sprinter Crew version and it cost me just under $50k including the extended warranty(special ordered). 29.6 mpg on I5 south @ 60 mph for 190 miles. So I only used 3.5 gallons of diesel fuel to get from Livermore, Ca to Lost Hill, Ca. So now I know that I can go all the way down to San Diego from Livermore on 1 tankful of fuel. SWEEET!!!!
I have a 1986 17 ft Chevy camper van. my van is my favorite vehicle that I've ever owned and by far the easiest vehicle to drive.while most people would probably find it intimidating to drive. it's super easy and I like the fact that I sit up so high and can see far away while driving.
Dear people of RUclips, if you haven't filmed anything in public before, you might be surprised to know that you can't just show up in a place and film everything you please. You need to get permission and often pay for permits. I approached my local dealership and asked to spend a day filming on location in order to get some more descriptive shots for my viewers. In exchange, I offer to plug their dealership, which I was happy to do because they've treated me well from the very first day. I don't see anything wrong with that. If you feel like hating on me, that's your right, but FYI, this video has been helpful for thousands of people. Many of them are relaxing in their stellar Sprinter vans in scenic locations right now. So regardless of what hateful things you have to say, I take pride in knowing that I've helped at least a few people fulfill their dream.
Actually you are wrong, you can feel lm anything and anyone can in public. You see that is what the first amendment says, photo or video of even federal buildings that is legal as long as you film anything bing you can see from a public easement, you don’t have to be a journalist or with the press necessarily. But you just wanted to suck that dealerships balls dry for a lower payment or money off in exchange of some promotion. And that, I call bullshit.
Great video mate! You sold me! ;-) I've had my Hiace van for nearly 4 years now and really enjoy having a van that I can fit all my adventure toys in and also sleep in. Whilst nowhere near as large and nice as your Sprinter, I have had 6 mountain bikers and their bikes in it, 3 kayaks and well over a pallet load of dehydrators (30) in it many times.
Love your video! It's all the positives I'm looking for in the Mercedes Sprinter. All the negatives I can find somewhere else. I can see myself and my family in a Sprinter. I don't understand why there are some haters in here.
If he was paid, he would be legally required to disclose it in the video or description. Trust me, a brand like Mercedes wouldn't risk a fine or other stupid shit like that so that 75.000 people see a positive review of a sprinter, since it's already getting positive feedback.
Also... at the end he didn't promote his channel but instead promoted a specific dealer and location. Come on guys, he wasn't only paid but he was probably paid well.
The prepaid maintenance for 8 (every 20K miles or 1 year) is over $4000. That is $500 a service and that does not include cost of air filters, brake pads, wipers, ...
Not going to lie, halfway through the video I paused it to check priceson Sprinter vans lol. I have 0 use for a Sprinter van and my wife and child definitely wouldn't be down to live in one. A good video, if a little paid ad-y. Nothing wrong with getting a good deal on a van by dropping that you'll do a review of it.
I have a Sprinter 2016 passenger van, 144in base, low roof, 4x4, used for vacations only (highways 70%). mpg decreases significantly with speed, at 60-65 you can get 22mpg, at 80 miles/hour mpg is 17.4. at 20,000 miles the oil change and first scheduled maintenance costs 350$. it requires 13quarts of oil but that lasts 20k miles. you can buy the oil change kit from the dealer for 175$ and do it yourself in 15 minutes without voiding the warranty. the vehicle is excellent, at 26,000 everything is functioning perfectly. the 4 cylinder engine has 20% better mpg (combined 23-24mpg) and decent power but no 4x4.
cristian morariu is that the 3.0 6 cylinder engine or the 2.1 4 cylinder engine because I heard the six cylinder engine gets closer to 20 miles per gallon and the four-cylinder engine because it has a 7-speed transmission mated to it will get closer to 25 miles per gallon even with a high roof
I am reading these comments and WHEW! The negativity is ridiculous. The Bible says that as a man speaks, so is his heart. A tree is known by his fruit. so ignore the Debbie Downers. Not everyone can run out and buy a new vehicle, today and unless these rude people are paying for your vehicle, they need to knock their negativity off and get off your channel. Plus, God has blessed me with tremendous blessings. My friend and I bought the same car the same week, without knowing, and he paid $5 K more than I did and I also got a 2yr additional warranty. Anyway, I am learning from you and definitely will take some of your advise when I finally get a travel van. We used to quote and laugh @ Chris Farley as the motivational speaker who "Lived In A Van Down By The River!" and Now I want one!!
The 4WD Sprinter would be a better choice, but I'm glad to see you bought what you got: a standard wheelbase with a tall roof and a Bluetec Diesel engine. I see more people in these than I see in Ford, GM, or Dodge vans with gas engines. Mercedes-Benz does stand behind their vehicles, including the Sprinter vans!
I do alot of road trips for my youtube channel so I feel your pain with the hotel costs. plus I like to camp. as a matter of fact we rented a van to camp in when we went to the overland expo in Flagstaff Arizona. I was thinking about buying a truck but I am seriously thinking about doing this exact thing....buying a sprinter van! great video. thanks for the inspiration.
Nice job, Sergei. I have a Sprinter van. Am building a camper conversion and love the fact that I can stand in it. Have enough room for a shower, kitchen, beds, storage, toilet and can fit 2 motorcycles in the back and get 17 to 20mpg. Took it to an ORV park near Spokane this weekend. Rode my CRF450x for a whole day. Got back in my Sprinter. Stealth camped. Woo hoo. Love this van....and I didn't get paid by no Benz dealer to say that. Sergei is a great guy.
KFStreich you can find cabins for rent smart ass, the point here is this dude in the video is all up on that dealerships ball sack for a discount on his sprinter van.
OMG_its_TexMex!!!! * I've never seen one where I camp, besides, some of us want to get away from buildings when I travel, if you don't it doesn't bother me...
Sergei, have you ever seen one outfitted for wheelchair users? I have a ford E-150 but its not big enough to sleep in while traveling. I lock my wheelchair directly in under the wheel and use hand controls.
They are extremely expensive when it comes to repairs, if you are wealthy, go for it, but being in a wheelchair myself, and on a tight budget, I bought a 73 Econoline, easy to repair, less parts to fail, and mileage balances it all out.
Maples01 I get it Man, I have a 2012 E 150 with a lift. I got it because I traded an old van to my insurance company and they made up the difference. The new van was 78,000$.
Joshua Brown Yep, my 99 E350 has a bad coil pack, so the answer is to replace them all, need to do the plugs while you're at it, close to $800. My 73, I put power brakes on it after driving 6 years without, did the work myself, changed the plugs, upgraded to electronic ignition. I chose the older one due to knowing the cost of repairs, along with the current vehicles being loaded with costly electronics required to keep them going, if you are on disability you will find it impossible to pay for repairs and get out at the same time. A friend gave me a wheelchair lift, some guys on a truck website came over and set it up inside, I had another friend bolt it down, then I wired it up, my 73 was purchased using money collected after an idiot ran over the lift in my 99 at a gas station, I couldn't get it repaired, the Braun dealer in my area wasn't interested, so I left it alone. I have learned how to get by. I built my own interior in it, has a nice fullsize bed, cabinets and what you will find, you can't do your bowel program in a van, get yourself an enclosed trailer, about a 6'x12' minimum and you can get what you need done, a regular wheelbase van is just not enough, take it from me.
What's wrong with being thorough? Had I only spent a month doing my research, people would have blasted me for being to quick on the draw. At least this way I know what I'm getting into. :-)
the uk ones are great, within a few years the mpg goes up! of course this is because they rot as fast as hell and you have lost some of the bodyweight..... i have never see one over 5/6 year old without rust spots everywhere, i hope the US ones are better.
Really nice video! I'm thinking about purchasing one too. Just in a dilemma between space / being able to bring more friends. I'm wondering if you ever regret having chosen for a 5 seater, or is this space of the extra seats helpful in some way?
This may be stupid think to ask, but I have to ask: is Sprinter the only big european style Van sold in US? Vehicles like Ford Transit and VW Crafter are not sold in there?
I've been looking for remodeled interior without the cabinets. i like the more spacious, sleeker look of mounting things on the side panels. what about the msg city/hwy..you referred to it twice but never mentored actual numbers. thanks
I love your video. I wonder if you are not trying to sell me something. However, I really like these vans for the exact point you make. I want to use it in campgrounds that have bathrooms so I don't need a potty. I would be nice to carry lumber. I have a small boat so I can't use a travel trailer that well. Then if you get an small RV you won't want to drive it around town. You can build a small bed in seconds. Throw a refrig and propane heater in back. Then you could easily bring briefcase solar panels if you need them and eventually put them on the roof. Then the used diesel vans are 20K and they need smog checks. Mileage should be better than a Class B. Seems way nicer than a SUV but I do like the looks of Subaru SUVs. May even be slightly cheaper than dodge or ford vans.
how to love my Sprinter van I have a 2004 short wheelbase 118 with the high roof,it is very rare and has nearly 400000 miles on it and there's no other vehicle I would prefer to have other than maybe a new sprinter lol
WHATEVER YOUR NAME IS What will you do when the engine dies? Can the engine be re-built? Any rust issues, inside or outside? Can you install a bathroom with shower and toilet in this van?
Thanks! Yes I saw in another video he posted about driving his 2WD in the snow. It looks like it has more ground clearance than older sprinters though!
I drive a nissan sentra 04 ive been driving for long before i got my License. Ive only had my license for like a year now. Are these vans easy to drive are they considered commercial vans
I work in HVAC drove many types of vans Dodge, pro master Ford Transit and Chevy now my current job I drive a Mercedes sprinter good on gas . Plenty of power good handling Dodge truck not fun to drive Ford van parts break off easily like the slide door won't shut all the way but Ford truck has good handling though pretty fast as well now I'm looking to buy my own sprinter
This is no more than an ad for the Sprinter brand. Come on, you can do better than that! At least give the model name, privide prices with competing models etc. You have had 5 years of research info, right?!
hefty pricetags lol the camping sprinters in my area are 140k starting.you could by 15 of the other 1"s for that.dont get me wrong id love to have 1 but my bst friends bro just bought 1 and it was 97k and would have to be completely gutted to make it a camper.if you know of a place where they are 20k or 30 let me know please.otherwise those are only for rich ppl
My Sprinter is now 17yrs old its done just over 200,000 miles and I love it, it's the best of the best and its a Fukin Mercedes for fuck sake us can't beat a Merc
Waaaaayyy misleading on the price there bud, how about you tell the good people how much a Sprinter Crew Van actually costs. 32000 *shakes hands* Rofl. Keep it REAL brother.
Hi how much is your insurance the reason I’m asking I saw it’s really high because it’s Cameral, now I like to convert it to RV do you know if the insurance is less if I make it to RV Thanks
It's tough to gauge with little white partnership lies. I'm sure you are personally satisfied with your work, but I don't think it's realistic. You never mentioned a chevy option, cost of non maintenance, or modifications. I don't have it all figured out. I think there is good here, and I think it can be realistic, but I don't think a sprinter is the best option. I don't want to take away from partnerships, but I do think people deserve some truth in productions every now and then, even if it costs you to do it. To me it's worth it, and a higher quality production if you do. My two cents.
Did he say he feels like he's watching a 3D movie while driving boooyyy i almost died cuz my driver fell asleep you better be attentive on the 10 and 2 lol I don't wanna be part of your action crash scene movie
Not gonna lie, while this van is cool in several aspects there it’s s nothing better than the tough manly looking econoline 4x4 lifted on 32” tires are o really get you into the mountains with out lacking horsepower like the Mercedes does, sure it has lots of torque for the engine but everyone says they lack hp specially on steep climbs on roads and that is a fact. But you did not mention that, sit there and lie to us about me being right-go ahead
Hottie with a beard. Tall so you can't put it in a garage & Canada is chilly and hard to keep warm inside in the winter or cool I'm the summer.. Diesel - owned a Smart. Another Mercedes engine. $400 oil changes. Any repairs were a fortune. It does have 4x4 version but $$$. But true a VW Van is $20,000 in mint condition and 20 years old at times. But you're definitely easy on the eyes!!!! 😍
What he is not talking about is that this specific van is notorious for early rusting 3-5 years tops , than you see rust bleeding through everywhere..!!!..and sorry dude , everything you say is way over blown ..
just wait a little longer ..I live up here North in Canada and they use a lot of salt on the roads..my point here again that this specific vehicle is notorious for rust due to the cheap sheet metal they use wit only one primer and 2 finish coats..do a little research and find out for yourself ...oh and forgot to mention that is way overpriced for a van with O insolation on the inside..its like when you slam the washroom door ..sounds so hollow ...dude..get over it !
i own a 95' sprinter, and it was already repainted when i bought it when the van was 7 year old, and 5 years later, i had do alot of welding al around it, so they are real rust buckets. When i buy another one, then the first thing i'm going to do is spend 1000 euro's in rust prevention, because i don't want to weld another 12 feet of sheet metal again.
Just did a google search on how to prevent rust on cars and literally the first thing that popped up was to get your car washed regularly. Wash your nasty ride.
shipping is possible man.. didnt u know? Just do the math.. if u buy vw for 20k+ in us vs 5k vw for eaven beter car... dont u think for 15k u could ship 15 vws? Ships cross the ocean every day.. if u go talk to ppl u might get a good deal and ship all 15 vans for ur extra 15k $

Would you consider the Ford Transit now that they have AWD?
$ 32,000 buys a lot of hotels with showers and a shitter. And that's the base price.

I get it Man, I have a 2012 E 150 with a lift. I got it because I traded an old van to my insurance company and they made up the difference. The new van was 78,000$.
Joshua Brown
Yep, my 99 E350 has a bad coil pack, so the answer is to replace them all, need to do the plugs while you're at it, close to $800.
Very nice, this is probably the best cargo van on the market, but I see them rust a lot.Even only after few years
Ya welcome to any area that uses salt seen 5 year old Chevy GMC ford and Dodge rust out
where do you get a $200 10,000 mile service? It is $600-$850 in the SF Bay Area!
for the newer models the first service is at 20,000 miles and it costs 350$ in portland, oregon
It took you 5 years to research your options?
What's wrong with being thorough? Had I only spent a month doing my research, people would have blasted me for being to quick on the draw. At least this way I know what I'm getting into. :-)
hey man scrolling pinterest boards takes time
@@BoutenkoFilms
That particular Sprinter version wasn`t even available 5 years before you purchase....
It came out in 2013 ;-)
For those playing the home game, this video was released 2016. The van was bought in 2013. He really did his homework.
the uk ones are great, within a few years the mpg goes up! of course this is because they rot as fast as hell and you have lost some of the bodyweight.....
i have never see one over 5/6 year old without rust spots everywhere, i hope the US ones are better.
Really nice video! I'm thinking about purchasing one too. Just in a dilemma between space / being able to bring more friends.
I'm wondering if you ever regret having chosen for a 5 seater, or is this space of the extra seats helpful in some way?
Wait... How are oils changes so expensive for you? You can get an oil change for $30 in the midwest
This van probably needs special tools and an obscure filter to change the oil. Lots of new cars are like this now..
nothing special its just because its changed at the dealership and thats dealership prices
No its becouse it takes 13 quarts but last 20k
SOLD!
Where is there a tour of his van for when he stays in it?
Is Mercedes addressing the rust issue?
What wheelbase?
Congrats, Sergei! Love it! What model do you have? 4 or 6 cyl? Thank you!
I have the 6 cyl.
This may be stupid think to ask, but I have to ask: is Sprinter the only big european style Van sold in US? Vehicles like Ford Transit and VW Crafter are not sold in there?
Skawagon We have Sprinter, Ford Transit and Dodge Ram Promaster which is Fiat van in Europe.
Do you insure your van as a van or as an RV? I'm trying to learn how to do this with my van. If so what company are you using?
can't buy one for 35,000 anymore only 4 years later lol
Great video thank you. I'm thinking about one for the exact thing. Btw I'm so n the Bay Area too. Is the mb dealer far ?
hairtoo1 I think they have many dealers in the Bay Area. In the East Bay there is a MBZ dealer in Pleasanton near or in Willow Rd.
I've been looking for remodeled interior without the cabinets. i like the more spacious, sleeker look of mounting things on the side panels.
what about the msg city/hwy..you referred to it twice but never mentored actual numbers. thanks
Sergei have you coverted it to a camper van
LMAO...who in the hell brings a tape measure with them to measure the windshield? Don't be so obviously being a shill for that dealership.
Is this a 2wd or 4x4 sprinter? I don't see 4x4 badge but it looks pretty high off the ground.
This is a 2wd 4wd is 4" higher and started in 2015 in the usa
Nissan NV passenger van might be another good option with V8 5.7 engine.
How many mpg does it get?
Oh wow this sounds amazing, err so how much? I mean seriously.
You have owned it for 5 years, is it riddled with rust yet?
3 years and no, no rust at all. Knock on wood!
Is it a SWB ?
I work in HVAC drove many types of vans Dodge, pro master Ford Transit and Chevy now my current job I drive a Mercedes sprinter good on gas . Plenty of power good handling Dodge truck not fun to drive Ford van parts break off easily like the slide door won't shut all the way but Ford truck has good handling though pretty fast as well now I'm looking to buy my own sprinter
Have they resolved the rust issues yet?
They sure have.
What do you do for a living if you don't mind me asking?
I write books, make films, and produce apps.
This is no more than an ad for the Sprinter brand. Come on, you can do better than that! At least give the model name, privide prices with competing models etc. You have had 5 years of research info, right?!
What's wing with a little dough? At least he's not selling drugs or something illegal.
Promaster a better choice. Lower cost maintenance.
Love it!
hefty pricetags lol the camping sprinters in my area are 140k starting.you could by 15 of the other 1"s for that.dont get me wrong id love to have 1 but my bst friends bro just bought 1 and it was 97k and would have to be completely gutted to make it a camper.if you know of a place where they are 20k or 30 let me know please.otherwise those are only for rich ppl
My Sprinter is now 17yrs old its done just over 200,000 miles and I love it, it's the best of the best and its a Fukin Mercedes for fuck sake us can't beat a Merc
мерседес спринтер 906!! 646 мотор одна турбина на акпп это супер!!!
Waaaaayyy misleading on the price there bud, how about you tell the good people how much a Sprinter Crew Van actually costs. 32000 *shakes hands* Rofl. Keep it REAL brother.
At the time I bought my van (2013) the base price was what I listed in the video. Inflation is real people.
HaystackCT I thought that price was way misleading lol
Hi how much is your insurance the reason I’m asking I saw it’s really high because it’s Cameral, now I like to convert it to RV do you know if the insurance is less if I make it to RV
Thanks
in oregon, for a sprinter 4x4, I pay 885$/year with progressive.
should have checked the honda element
what is fuel millage on your van ?
I get 22-25 miles per gallon with my V6.
i have the 313 diesel witch is a 2.2 diesel and get around 38mpg most days witch for a lwb high roof is real good
Do the new ones still have the rust issues like the old ones I'm starting to save up for one of these or the transit vans.
CalifroniaCrusin' no they havent they all correct on new sprinter..
290k on mine now I need 10000.00 plz to repair turbo.. turbo oil cooler oil leak . Now lt looks nice in my front yard driveway
Did he say he feels like he's watching a 3D movie while driving boooyyy i almost died cuz my driver fell asleep you better be attentive on the 10 and 2 lol I don't wanna be part of your action crash scene movie
thats a nice one
Can i take the driver to? Lmao....😛
Never felt top heavy?!?! Roflmao
Pamela Anderson never said that
Hottie with a beard.
That had to have been the most unreadable anything I've read on the internet this week.
You forgot to add to your list of likes, selling out to corporate dealerships.
What he is not talking about is that this specific van is notorious for early rusting 3-5 years tops , than you see rust bleeding through everywhere..!!!..and sorry dude , everything you say is way over blown ..
Johny Hansen going on 4 years with ZERO rust. :-)
just wait a little longer ..I live up here North in Canada and they use a lot of salt on the roads..my point here again that this specific vehicle is notorious for rust due to the cheap sheet metal they use wit only one primer and 2 finish coats..do a little research and find out for yourself ...oh and forgot to mention that is way overpriced for a van with O insolation on the inside..its like when you slam the washroom door ..sounds so hollow ...dude..get over it !
Johny Hansen. I own a Sprinter. True about the rust. This is a beautiful piece of machinery contained in a rust bucket. Shame on you Mercedes.
i own a 95' sprinter, and it was already repainted when i bought it when the van was 7 year old,
and 5 years later, i had do alot of welding al around it, so they are real rust buckets.
When i buy another one, then the first thing i'm going to do is spend 1000 euro's
in rust prevention, because i don't want to weld another 12 feet of sheet metal again.
Just did a google search on how to prevent rust on cars and literally the first thing that popped up was to get your car washed regularly.
Wash your nasty ride.
Take my 💰!
Since when is $32,000 not a massive price tag for a freakin van. It's just a van! $32k for a van seriously?
HDTV😂🤣😂🤣 nice
Price is waaaaay misleading lol
Wha' in the world? A Benz ad?
Nice vans but suffer from rust.
good ad
Seems the price has dropped again
I may get a used one for Construction
oh god..i just hope you ar single ;) Sergei
That's what you call German quality.
instead of spending 40,000 on this van, go on vacation to a tropical vacation somewhere. buy really nice dinners and more.
To each their own.
dude drive to europe to get vws :D cheap as fuuuk. 5k -10k good choices
Lol, drive to Europe from the states. I think he'll need the SubMariner package upgrade for his Sprinter to accomplish this.
shipping is possible man.. didnt u know? Just do the math.. if u buy vw for 20k+ in us vs 5k vw for eaven beter car... dont u think for 15k u could ship 15 vws? Ships cross the ocean every day.. if u go talk to ppl u might get a good deal and ship all 15 vans for ur extra 15k $
all this talk bout MPG not one person tell you what it is.. smh..anyways ill be the first.. they are bout 17MPG. not very effecient.
Not very "efficient" in your spelling mate.
It suits you because of your height
Nice commercial.... ;)
