I have have done the same many times but with a simpler method. I do use 5mm domino's with 1/2" thick material. I lower the fence as far as it will go, past the limits of the depth stop slide gauge. Then I slip in a small piece of wood, another domino between the motor housing and fence assembly to limit plunge depth. This results in shallow mortises so you will need to shorten the Domino tenons to fit. I use a stationary disk sander to quickly shorten the Domino tenons.
I will be installing some mitred 1/2" storefront panels next week and remembered seeing you had done this. So I watched again and decided I will use 1/4" acrylic but all I have is 3/8" scrap. I ran a piece through the planer. It worked perfectly. It was now a little hazy but I could still see the scale in the fence window. I then hit it with a torch for a few seconds and that took out what little haze I had.
I have done he same thing with the double side tape and shim as well and wondered the same thing. Unrelated to this but one thing i always thought with my domino is that the tight setting is too tight and the second setting is too loose.
Excellent idea. Looks like it could have come with the domino and should have. 2 thumb screws would make attaching the plate a breeze and no drilling of the domino plate.
Thanks Dan. Something like this should be provided with the Domino in order to make it fully functional. Instead of screws, I think the clip-on shims similar to what Lamello has on their plate joiners would be ideal. Steve
What brand is your vacuum clamping system that you are using at the start of the video? I've been looking for an alternative to the Festool setup. Thanks
Hi Michael, the vacuum clamping system is integrated with the table. It is made by Barth and is the model 500V. I purchased it through Rangate which do have a number of videos on this and other Barth vacuum products. Steve

Hi Steve. Good tip, I didn't even know you could put acrylic through a planer and I had forgotten all about the torch trick. Steve
Pretty cool Steve. I have run into that situation before and just did the double sided tape thing with a shim. I like your solution much better!
Thanks Guy, I have always wondered why Festool never came up with an accessory that just clips on to the fence to solve that issue. Steve

what vacuum clamping system is that?
It is a Barth 500V. I answer a few questions about it in this video. ruclips.net/video/Z9aVv5zwFFs/видео.html Steve
I have varous thicknesses of phenolic on hand and just slide under the piece I'm going to slot.
How thick is the polycarbonate?
3/8" - Steve
Still no wiser as to how this actually works. A close up of the fence with and without the modification might have helped.
