I never understood why they choose that young actor to play Jake. He looks nothing like Alan or Judith and more like he could be Berta's kid. Unless he was adopted.

He did his level best. To foot the bill. He was a professional but the chemistry wasn't anywhere near when charlie was in the lead role
Unfortunately, most sit-coms that feature child actors suffer when the children grow up. The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Family Ties, and Married With Children, to name a few. At least 2 1/2 Men didn't try to bring in another child actor, & seemed to handle Angus' growing up fairly well, at least until Charlie left.

Jake was funny when he was a kid, but as a young adult, his character is horrible! I spent 30 years in the Army, and the Army Recruiter depicted here is a joke! He would not be wearing his half ass beret indoors. On top of everything, I doubt Jake could pass the entrance exam nor the physical.

The show started to loose it's charm when Jake started becoming a teenage mudhead, Alan pettiness grew and Charlie's real carefree lifestyle started to catch up to him, which was clearly visible in his looks later in the show. After he left, there was no reason to watch it anymore.

I can say author Sobers Rodrigues has been highly inspired by Charlie's character to write his erotic book "Mates". Because it has similar quirky moments and steamy romance.
