    Some how I don’t believe the Tu Simple company guy when he says this technology is not gonna be used to take the place of truck drivers. If people think big corporations won’t use this technology to run trucks around the clock all the while not having to pay for the expense of a driver, they are clueless to the greed of big corporations

      Soon you won’t need override, commercial autonomy is step 2, consumer autonomy is step 1. Very soon most EV’s will be autonomous. Soon after legislation will realize machine is safer than human. Human driving will be eliminated. Roads cleared of human mistakes, roads filled with autonomous vehicles, then commercial trucking. We need to eliminate humans from the road before we can reach full pipeline autonomy. It is safer for all of humanity.

    This will be mainly used for shuttle and distribution centers. Theres no way on gods earth this will work for smaller companies in the heart of brooklyn, newark nj, and even rural areas around places like this. Not to mention the gymnastics you have to do to get into these horribly positioned docks. Not to mention places you have to turn and cross both sides of the street to back up into docks. I find this interesting for 2 reasons. 1. If the self driving trucks actually work, the drivers are going to be gone. Companies don't value employees, they view them as expense despite making profit. This is one of the downsides of companies being public vs private. While a private company can be run the same way, whether it is or is not depends on the person who actually owns it and not a corporate board who only cares about their share price. 2. This comes out on the same day that a few of the news outlets are shining light on more women becoming truckers and making good money. One could twist the story about who these budding drivers are emerging into a profession that is actively being targeted for replacement.

    • @clallen2000
      @clallen2000 11 месяцев назад

      Human drivers will still be needed but not for long haul. They are working on a hub to hub system where the AI drives the truck on the highway from one hub to another but a human will take over at the hub and ride in the truck till it gets to its final destination and once it is unloaded they will pilot it back to the hub.

    in short if it was the wild west then we would have a self-driving cars buses and trucks out on the road all over the country right now but there are states getting in the way of it happening just because they don't know what to do with all the people out of work that's the problem not that they can't do it. the government is getting in the way because of that. if this tech was allowed in every part of are society fast food jobs would be middle class because we would not need but half the workforce with less and less until we just needed back up people there if it brakes if you have seen people out on the streets homeless all over the country think that but ten times as bad would be the result the government has to be in full panic mode right now is what I'm thinking because all they seem to have is lets play it by ear and see how it goes with company's lobbying to get it done. the states and local governments are trying to fight off another Great Depression because of this in the end the companies will win probably with a Universal basic income compromised to be signed into law. that conversation you can imagine is very sticky right now because the tech as just got here and we don't have all the full uses of it ready yet this means if there are not enough jobs taken away then the Universal basic income will not be enough to live off of so its a real push and pull situation
