      Someone can correct me if I missed anything bigger but Magnus brought the knight to the centre planning for an attack but didn't realize the only piece guarding his knight ( black queen ) can easily be pushed away by the white pawn that was moved to g4. Now the most reasonable move is to save your queen but whatever square Magnus would move his queen to, he would lose the guard on knight, get his queen taken or pushed even more if he tried to keep defending the knight with queen to f5.
      *Long story short: he would be down a piece(knight) in a grandmaster lategame, drastically reducing his odds of actually winning*

      It is not easy, but you have to work with the information you got. The knight move is a blunder. Why? The black queen has to defend the knight. But white can chase the queen away with his pawns. Pause the video after the blunder and try to find the solution yourself. If you don’t find it, look at how the game unfolds. (You see that the queen get chased away.) It gets easier with practice.

    After the other guy realizes the blunder and goes f4, Magnus has to either let go of The knight or the queen because:
    1. if he saves the queen from the pawn then he is basically removing the knight's only defender, that is the queen. He can go to C5 with the queen still protecting the knight but then pawn to B5 will be next, which will force magnus to again move the queen ceasing to defend the knight.
    2. If he moves the knight then queen gets taken by the pawn.

      Losing the Knight is enough for Magnus to lose the game. In a game between Grandmasters, where 1 pawn difference is often enough to win, having an entire extra piece is almost certainly a win.
      Magnus tried to count his losses by offering the Exchange instead, losing Rook for Knight, but keeping the number of pieces equal. Unfortunately, a Rook Vs a Knight with no help from the Knight's King is almost always a win for the Rook

      Most would have lost more. But even while on damage control he was down an exchange. Meaning he lost a rook for a knight. It translated to losing a pawn and soon losing another. Which means his opponent would have an easy time making another queen soon. Game over.

      After exchanges he ended up with knight against a rook in endgame which is bye bye

    I’m confused why did he not just move the queen to c5 or a safe spot

    • @schwartz5164
      @schwartz5164 Год назад +1

      The blunder was not about the queen, but his knight instead, if he moved his queen aside, the knight will be given free, so he tried to make the best trade at that position.

      he put the knight in front of the queen and therefore the knight was protected only by a queen and the queen could be pushed with a pawn so he basically gave him a knight

    Реакция Магнуса Карлсена очень забавная. Улыбнулся над своей ошибкой, немного поторговался, не вышло, пришлось принять поражение.
    Ничего страшного, все мы люди, ошибаются даже чемпионы.

    after all those trades why did he play knight d6 instead of c5? that would allow him to protect his pawn and also threaten the white pawn
