Theory for why anatar says he's "the one keeping the storm at bay" could be hes baiting adar into attacking eregion while pretending to be the only one who can stop him. Or hes claiming to be the only one who can stop the sickness or whatever thats causing the elves to fade.

18:20 the sight of Celebrimbor screaming is harrowing. I think he has realized what Annatar has done to deceive him, and that it’s too late to fix it-the nine and seven are gone, and Celebrimbor is now useless. SPOILER ALERT: If I put myself in the minds of the showrunners, I would guess that the last season, season 5 ends with Isildur cutting the ring from Sauron's hand and refusing to destroy it. Elrond goes to Rivendell, and Galadriel goes to Lorien. The last scene is probably Isildur getting ambushed and the ring getting lost in the river.
If this is all the case, then I would imagine that season 4 probably ends with the destruction of Numenor, which causes Elendil and Isildur to travel to Middle Earth and create Gondor and Arnor in season 5. If this is the case, I would guess that season 3 ends with Pharazon capturing Sauron and bringing him to Numenor. This, of couse, means that season 4 will be occupied with Sauron tricking Pharazon into trying to invade Valinor, and leading to the destruction of Numenor.
Finally, if that's all correct, then I would suspect that either season 2 ends with Pharazon leading the Numenoreans to Middle Earth to fight Sauron, or season 3 begins with them leaving for Middle Earth. Either way, season 3 will probably be all about the Numenoreans fighting Sauron. edit: I would also venture that it is during season 3 that Sauron crafts the One Ring.

Last scene in the show imo will be an epilogue showing Deagol leaving his boat to reach down into the water and grab the One. For as much crap people gave the rocks sink/boats float line from the first season, the have largely leaned into the 'looking up at the true light vs looking down to touch the darkness' metaphor. There will be a quite large rock in season 4 that will sink into the water after looking away from the 'true light' of the Valar as well.

It would be a big mistake for them to introduce Ciaran as Saruman AS a shady looking guy imo. Its not like Saruman was bad to the bone the entire time, hes supposed to be the leader of the wizards and become corrupted later.

Ciaran is a very good fit for Saruman though. I'd be a little disapointed if he is playing someone else. We already know the showrunners don't really care about the lore so they might as well put Gandalf and Saruman in the second age since they are condensing the timeline.

@@liveac3694 Respectfully, we don't already know that, that's just your opinion. It's not practical to make a show that spans thousands of years without having new actors play completely new characters literally every episode, so they pretty much had no choice in condensing the timeline. Which is the most often thing I see as a criticism but genuinely, how would you tell this story better if the timeline wasn't condensed.

      @liveac3694 2 месяца назад +2

@@deathswitch2404 If I was the showrunner I would probably do timeskips in between seasons. Condensing thousands of years into a dozen kinda hurts the impact of events. Sauron's reign lasted hundreds of years in the books. In the show we risk having a version were we have the creation of the rings, the rise of Mordor, sinking of Numenor and the War of the Last Alliance taking place over a weekend. Slightly exagerated of course but you get my point.

Why did Sauron say to Celebrimbor "I am the one keeping the storm at bay"? ------- Sauron tells Celebrimbor that he is "keeping the storm at bay" as part of his manipulative efforts to gain Celebrimbor's trust. Sauron, in his guise as Annatar, uses this phrase to suggest that he is helping Celebrimbor protect the world from impending chaos, when in reality, he is subtly influencing the creation of the Rings of Power to further his own dark ambitions. This manipulation sets the stage for Sauron's larger plans to dominate Middle-earth.

Tolkien specifically talks about how having an orderly and peaceful world is Sauron’s goal. He just thinks he’s the only one who can bring that about and is completely bought into the ends justifying the means in service of his goals - a HUGE no-no for Tolkien, and a strategy that probably won’t work anyway seeing as Sauron is ultimately fighting Eru, the omnipotent and objectively good god of the setting.
One of the coolest things about the show imo is that it shows how Sauron *actively thinks he’s the good guy and can make a convincing argument for his cause on that basis*. This is a real part of Tolkien’s mythology, a part which most other adaptations (including the PJ ones, which I love) wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole because in pop culture the assumption is that Tolkien’s morality is uncomplicatedly black-and-white, with Sauron being evil for the lolz.
I don’t like everything about ROP but it absolutely gets my respect for engaging with the mythos on that level. It shows that the showrunners (for all their flaws) are genuinely attempting to engage seriously with the works and bring an exciting and unexplored angle to the table.

I think @12:17 celabrimbor is actually under a spell from sauron at this moment. Hes walking round seeing his realm at peace but feels like something is wrong. I think this could be happening during the battle itself. Hes unaware of the ‘Storm’ destroying eregion
The mirror shot is him seeing the truth breaking through the spells. this is why he seems to be covered in dirt and grime. Also because of the toll Sauron spell is having on him.

Maybe Tolkien had a bad experience with a cat or cats just as with the spider that bit him as a child. So his experience carries over into the writing. But he did not reckon for any good experiences of cats beyond his? And made his decision? Even his distaste for Siamese… but not all of them are like ninjas waiting to pounce. some of them even have elements of “dog” in them. I can attest to that! And love curling with their humans. Love both cats and dogs.
Who knows? Maybe he just didn’t like how cats hunt. Guess I can understand that too.
I know of Beruthiel. And should go back and read of her. Though I have the impression Tolkien thought she was just sending her cats to spy on everyone or something. Sigh and laugh. I know cats who can find where you are sore the exact point and curl up there. They can be sensitive and sweet.

I feel like they chose to make the 3 rings first to develop the uncertainty in the elves of whether they should use them throughout this season. While the 3 were not touched by Sauron, they were contrived through his influence still.
Could they have that by making the 3 after the others? Sure and still be able to leverage that same uncertainty, but then S2 would be about crafting the 16 and the 3 would be all moved to the end into S3 and they would need a reason for Sauron to leave Eregion so Celebrimbor could forge them, then Sauron come back and sack the city. Numenor storylines would spin longer, Stranger story would spin longer. I think for their event pacing of the time crunch they decided it wouldn’t work to push the 3 to after the 16. It’s more timeline efficient to sack Eregion while Sauron is already there, which wouldn’t leave room for Brimby to forge the 3 later.
I also believe they needed the first season to build and frame these events, so I argue against the concept of “they should have given us this S2 stuff in S1”

I'm trying really hard to be excited about season 2 - I'm rewatching the first season right now and trying to look for positives. But while there were some things I liked about the first season (Elrond/Durin being the high point, and the sets and score are incredible), I still really disliked it overall from a lore perspective, a "realism"/internal believability perspective, and a straight up writing perspective. It doesn't feel true to Tolkien's works to me and it also doesn't feel like it was well-written enough to stand up on its own. I'm going into season 2 hoping that they've course corrected and will turn out something I can enjoy. Because, contrary to what a lot of positivity-enforcers online seem to think, I do actually WANT to enjoy the experience - I just haven't been able to so far.

Maybe the other rings were already created by the end of season 1. There just wasn't mithril in them like the 3. This whole season could be going back and forth between the siege and what led up to it (in addition to making the other rings) with Celebrimbor.

With that said, I would've done it different myself - a much more straightforward dark tale less drama and hints of romance for sure. No Galadriel swashbuckling stories on Numenor. But I think the producers aimed at a larger audience, one that hasn't read the books and they were probably right. So maybe they felt when all is said and done the complete series will have brought a very large new audience to the franchise and some of the setup in S01 is yet to yield fruit that may perhaps validate some of the decisions.
This trailer gives me hope. Both in terms that hopefully they listened to our complaints and adjusted based on that but also that now with setup behind us they will stick closer to the storyline developed by Tolkien, however little that contains in terms of detail as far as a streamlined narrative story.

I don't fall into either camp. First season was ... rough. It had some legit amazing stuff (anything with Durin/Elrond and the Dwarves, the music), some potentially interesting inventions (proto-hobbits, the orc king dude and the humanity of the orcs) and some legit bad stuff (poor story arcs, pacing, Gandalf, Galadriel and Annatar's arcs despite some good performances). So s2 for me is falling squarely in 'Movie Star Trek' territory: it isn't the franchise I love because it's missing core components, but it's a nicely flavored, kinda fun lolipop version of it. Could this become something I love? Sure. Season 1 of the Next Generation was freaking awful, but later seasons cemented it as one of the all time great sci fi shows. I *hope* that happens here. But... I doubt it. Time will tell.

As someone relatively new to Tolkiens lore I can understand why some don’t like season one, there are valid points. But my question is why is EVERY new movie or series being bashed by this group of RUclips influencers(Drinker/Nerdrotic etc..)? There’s been like two movies they’ve liked in three years. I was actually with them in the beginning because of all the forced diversity and woke messages but there has to be a limit. So what now, we just don’t take any ventures on making new media? I think they dislike everything because it’s their business model, they wouldn’t be making the money they are on RUclips if they weren’t hating on EVERYTHING. Season two looks great and I’m pumped! As a former Tolkien-purist 😅I am excited about the S2!!! I no longer expect any heeding of the lore... 1) I think it would be impossible anything beyond hobbit and lotr (even silmarilion) is too complex - in a way that Tolkien offers us many different stories (okay mostly first age but still). the world and its story is so beautifully deep that it would be beyond a mortal to adapt it onto a screen🤣 2) Amazon don't have rights to all the books so they cannot actually follow most of the lore 3) unfortunately, it needs to sell, and neither of Master Tolkien works were written for that purpose, not even those that were published posthumously. 4) Even after having written stories, Tolkien was still changing stuff - as per his letters 😂 .
Some people believe that it would be better not to touch anything of Tolkien unless you will treat it with utter respect - and Amazon clearly does not. I have mixed feeling about Amazon - I am glad that that I can watch anything that is Tolkien or related to Arda. Also, I think that keeping things between the ultimate Tolkien fans is wrong - any form of "elitism" especially in hobbies is bad. Good things should be shared and I am glad that more people can now learn about Master T and his works.

They can make up an entirely different scenario of where and when and how regarding these new/older Wights, and if they do it well then cool, because they indeed look awesome; but just don't call them barrow-wights and make the mistake of boxing you into the corner of yet another bending/breaking of the lore by using events or things from different ages... When the parts from the released trailers and season 1 are combined, my prediction will be as follows:
There will be a prologue in season 2 about what happened between Adar and Sauron in the past. In this prologue, Sauron will be in the form of Mairon. He has red hair and is already played by another actor. A coronation ceremony will be held where Mairon will be declared the lord. The orcs bring Mairon the crown and Adar prepares to put it on Mairon, but he sneakily stabs the sharp edges of the crown into Mairon's back just as he is about to put it on. In other words, he carries out the splitting in two event that he meant in season one. He separates Mairon's soul from his physical form, in a sense. Later, in the trailer, there is a black silhouette crawling on the ground that resembles a worm. There, Mairon in his soul form now gathers his strength and transforms into a new physical form, namely Halbrand. Halbrand's encounter with Galadriel near Valinor will be connected in this way. The reason why Adar does not remember Halbrand when he sees him in season 1 is because of this. Because now he is in a new form. Halbrand was returning to Mordor in the season finale. Halbrand will deliberately join the orcs' captives and try to reach Adar. When he comes across Adar, he will tell them about a wizard in Eregion, namely Sauron. He will manipulate Adar and have him lay siege to Eregion.

Maybe defending a breached gate? In the lotr books, the broken gates are defended by the knights of Dor Lomon and the city guard, who are able to hold until the Witch King appears. The army of Mordor never actually enters the city. Even though the sequence in the movie is amazing, that annoyed me a little!

First off: Kudos to the wonderfully funny comments of yours. Nerd points for "Orky" (should be in the dictionary!), Thanos reference, Harry Potter reference, the Dwarf kids building blanket forts, Elves competing at the next Olympics, and that Elves are dog people. Whatever made you sick, didn't stop your excellent humour!
Mate, my Tolkien mind is literally salivating and anticipating this season way more than I thought it would. You've really set up some high hopes and I'm trying to dampen my expectations.
As for the Adar/Sauron theory. Here's my thought:
Adar is clearly Sauron's enemy. At the end of S1, Halbrand returns to see whether Mount Doom is in place and ready for his One Ring magic trick. Perhaps Halbrand will confront Adar, and the two of them will fight again... Either way, I reckon Adar has an inkling as to what Halbrand/Sauron is planning in Eregion (forging more rings etc.). So Adar decides he has to stop Sauron from making those rings, because he would then end up controlling every race of middle-earth, including Adar's beloved Orc brothers. (Seems like Adar is the Martin Luther King Jr. of Orc-ville...He has a dream! Even Orcs can have dreams, ok?)
This would allow for a later confrontation between Adar and Galadriel, having tea together and discussing their dislike of Sauron.
Loved the geographical analysis btw! And the dam theory... Would be a cool nod to the Ford of Bruinen scene in "Fellowship", where Arwen causes the river to stir. But it's a reversal, where you see whoever controls water has the power.
I agree with all your major theories and hopes: Come on Blue Wizards!!!
Last but not least, the Annatar/Celebrimbor saga: It's clear that Sauron gets into his head and controls him. Perhaps, once the elves use the rings to heal the land, Celebrimbor snaps out of his 'delusion' and recognises Annatar as evil.
Also: that one scene with the elves marching is definitely the Grey Havens. Would make sense, especially since Cirdan is making an appearance. Why wouldn't they show that. And perhaps it's the elven entourage ready to sail to Numenor to ask for help...
All in all, a trailer that's setting us up for an epic storyline unfolding. Let's hope they deliver! Thanks for the breakdown.

The series as a whole is just gorgeous and we have some great actors across the board. It is a feast visually and gives life to characters like never before. As an adaptation, there may be discrepancies with the source material and other narrative derivations to fit the format. It's fine to be aware of the differences and even discuss them, but dismissing the series entirely is lunacy. This is the same story told by a different poet: some verses may be different, and embellishments are expected. The art itself is beautiful. Can't wait for more in season 2.

Loving the direction of the trailers! It seems like season 2 will definitely be a more action filled season, and focus more on the strongest characters from season 1. I'm very hopeful for season 2, as someone who had lots of issues with season 1 but still enjoyed it. Just getting to see Annatar on screen and my favorite character, Celebrimbor will be a treat! (I've named almost all my video game characters since around 2005 Celimbror, of course after my favorite Middle Earth character) :)
Also, I'm someone who really enjoyed the Peter Jackson LOTR movies, and liked most of the Hobbit movies. I'm so glad that they're not just copying and pasting the style of those films. I like having a different take on Middle Earth (Such as the Ralph Bakshi LOTR movie, which is stylistic but has issues of its own) and I'm hoping it will inspire more Middle Earth movies/shows to come!
Optimistic for a big improvement on season 1! Always thankful for more Middle Earth content and thank you for covering it!
