    It is so cool to finally see someone finally show the last, I have the single LA explosion but am dying to find a copy of the album on vinyl. I just got a copy of Paul collins beat a few weeks ago and am in love with the album, especially side 1!

    I was going to post my top 10. And then it became a top 20, 30, etc. So much love for the music in my life, so many cold shivers hearting things for the first time. I never get tired of hearing about other people's experiences, so thanks, as always, for the video 🙂

    Another great video! I travelled much the same road. Monkees, Badfinger (Wish You Were Here is one of the best albums ever!), Clash, Squeeze . . . My life was changed by Herb Alpert, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, 20/20, Shoes, Records, ELO and Foreigner (believe it or not!) Keep up the great work!

    Hi Stephen - In the summer of 1980 I purchased both 17 Seconds by The Cure & Kaleidescope by Siouxsie & The Banshees & was firmly committed to the Post Punk odyssey I remain on to this day. I was a super regular at Rhino Records before working there & store manager Gary Stewart convinced me to buy LA Explosion by The Last .. upon reading the credits I discovered Gary was the bands manager ! Love the brothers Nolte. The sister of the young lady I was dating was dating Joe & eventually became a Pandora.

    Been watching Pardo and saw his 20 most influential spawned many others which I’m now checking out. Hello Steve. First time but you got me with your Beatles analogy shaping where your tastes would go. I agree because the first band that really moved me was the Fab 4 and I bought every American release, albeit after they were broken up. That set the stage for my discovery of Squeeze, which became a sort of Beatles for my generation. I wrote down all those punky albums so I can check them out. Only know the hits of Badfinger and know of The Jam. Never heard of The Last or The Beat. Thanks for the insight into a genre (power pop) that I’ve yet to really explore.

    • @StephenSchnee
      @StephenSchnee  6 месяцев назад

      Huge Squeeze fan here... and while they aren't Power Pop, many Power Pop fans have Squeeze on their 'favorite bands' list! And Badfinger's Wish You Were Here is my fave album of all-time... and this is coming from someone whose favorite band of all-time is The Beatles! Yeah, I"m a pop kid and love hooks and harmonies, which is what the Fabs had in spades... and everything I LOVE has great melodic hooks so you just might love some of the other stuff I talk about. But that is something that you'll decide. Maybe check out my recent videos focusing on Power Pop and you'll get to hear some of these types of bands! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

    • @guywoznicki7847
      @guywoznicki7847 6 месяцев назад

      @@StephenSchnee I’m glad we have the same attitude. There are no right or wrong choices as everyone’s tastes are different; my best friends and I used to listen to the exact same records and 30 years later we’re all very different. I realize Squeeze isn’t power pop but I’d like to add that I finally saw them live a few years ago and they were amazing! So I listened to Wish You Were Here and enjoyed it; not a bad song on there and side 2 was incredible. I’ll try the Jam, Last, and Beat next. By the way I just commented on a video which praised the obscure Ram album by McCartney. I love that record, believe it’s woefully underrated, and include it in my top 10 best. Ever heard it?

    • @StephenSchnee
      @StephenSchnee  6 месяцев назад

      @@guywoznicki7847 Thanks for giving that Badfinger album a spin! Hope you dig the rest. And I was lucky to see Squeeze several times, the first being in 1981 (the East Side Story tour). and yes, we all just need to realize that taste is subjective and there is no right or wrong! Speaking of McCartney, Ram is a great album but, oddly enough, my fave Macca post-Beatles album is Back to the Egg! So many great songs plus it has an energy to it that was inspired by the New Wave movement... although it is far from a 'punk' album (which many naysayers tend to refer to it as)

    All great albums! Revolver was probably the Beatles record that I listened to the most, and Sesame Street was also a big one for me.....but Phil Collins was the guy that I got heavily into following those. I got a lot hipper when I went to college, and discovered New Wave, Post Punk, Hip Hop etc....

      Nothing wrong with the paths we choose to follow. The important thing is that it makes us happy. However, I must say that I loathe "Susudio" just as much as I loathe Thomas Dolby's "Hot Sauce" and Reflex's "The Politics of Dancing"! Otherwise, all is right in the world of music! :)

    Thanks for sharing your music influences Steve. I'm glad I am not the only one not really into Joy Division. Btw there is this band that is sometimes classified as "goth" but is more of synth/darkwave: Xymox. Their major label debut back in 1989 is very melodic, more pop oriented and has some string sections - "Twist of Shadows". It's atmospheric and moody like DM's "A Broken Frame". Fave tracks: Imagination, Blind Hearts, Tonight.
