"This poem is from a collection called "Songs from an Old Town" (1912) by Larin-Kyösti (alias Karl Gustav Larsson, 1873-1948), a well-known and much loved Finnish poet."
Rakastan Suomen kieli niin paljon. Se on kaunis!
This is beautiful, and Finnish is a beautiful language. I'm ashamed to say so far the majority of Finnish I have mastered is profanity.
Would you care to extend that offer to my good self?
thank you very much !
@@ilikepotatosalad6363 really?
Perrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrkele
@@kylechurch6296 Satana!
Finnish is a language that is rarely ever tamed by foreigners. I am Danish, and I speak Russian, English, Armenian, and my mother language. I have been studying Finnish for two years and it has bested me thus far.
Hvorfor lige russisk og armensk? 😊
Maybe because u've been learning only indoeuropean langauges (which all have simillar structure) so far and that's why u can't handle finnish since it's totally different.
Չեմ հավատում :)
Keep on trying Kevin D.R.. Diligence conquers even hard fortune (a Finnish proverb).
@@mattikarjalainen5849 Hi Matti. It has been a few years since I moved away from Finland. Regardless, thank you for your words.
the song is beautiful and deep, just like the beautiful and kind Finnish people.
Sort of Kletzmer music, love it....there is really a big affinity between finnish, karelian and estonian soul and hungarian soul...I lived for 14 years in Hungary, since 2016 in Estonia and Greece too...yep, I can feel it everyday.
Is Finnish always this gorgeous?
It is
It always is. :)
@@pencyco It is not
KYLLÄ
It’s always so pretty to me.
violin here is SUBLIME !!
This song is wonderful, Loituma is an amazing group, sad they're only known for Ievan Polka
Ievan Polkka is overrated...
I don’t think that they invented that song tho
@@RenVCWorship they mostly cover Finnish folk songs
This song make my heart hurt so much
There is a secret sad meaning behind it that is hard to understand but somehow related to us all even til we return to see Heaven again
Suomalainen kieli on kaunis. :-)
Suomen kieli :)
- Kiitos!
Tears comes down 😭😭😭
What a great treat finding this song was for me. It is a very powerful, deep and extremely poignant song; sung by the incomparable Anita Lehtola-Tollin. Her expressive voice and perfect diction make me long to have heard her singing live. The poetry and the violin music are sublime... they are a match made in heaven.
Loituma: Finland's delightful and fantastic export to the rest of the world. More please!
I really want to watch Loituma playng their songs live, too. But I can't because my country is too far away Finland and Europe. Their beautiful music really inspired me in my life, every single day. I almost know to sing like 4 songs of them. Greetings.
this is very very fine !!! always my mind .............
Michelle Von Liechtenstein. I don't understand a word of Finnish but I can sing about 10 Varttina songs word for word!
Очень восхитительное пение , жаль слов песни нет и перевода
@@user-cp2jo1qx6vLooking is all you need to do. The lyrics are a part of the video both In English and Finnish. The poem by Larin-Kyösti ('Carl Gustav Larsson') can be found and it will reveal the words in verse as shown below. videlicet.
Näin minä ihanan tähdenlennon,
aattelin: yksinkö jäit kuin ma jäin,
sortiko suru sun sielusi hennon
keskeltä kylmien ystäväin,
sortiko suru sun sielusi hennon
keskeltä kylmien ystäväin?
Taivaan tulikukka-yrttimailla
olit kai pieni ja pilvessä ain,
ehkä et loistanut muiden lailla,
olit kai unta ja usvaa vain,
ehkä et loistanut muiden lailla,
olit kai unta ja usvaa vain.
Pois sinä lensit avaruuteen,
niin ehkä löysit, mitä sä hait,
sammuessasi maailmaan uuteen
kirkkaamman, kauniimman loiston sä sait,
sammuessasi maailmaan uuteen
kirkkaamman, kauniimman loiston sä sait.
I saw a wonderful shooting star,
I thought: were you alone as I was,
Did sorrow oppress your soul so tender
From the midst of your cold friends,
Did grief oppress your soul
Did your soul, in the midst of cold friends.
In the herb-flower soil of heaven
Thou must have been small and in a cloud,
Perhaps you did not shine like the others,
Thou wast but a dream and a mist,
Maybe you didn't shine like the others
You must have been a dream and a mist
Away you flew into space,
And maybe you'll find what you're looking for,
When you passed out in a new world
A brighter, more beautiful glow you've found,
When you passed out into a new world
A brighter, more beautiful glow you have found.
This reminds me of some sad songs of italian author Fabrizio de André. This song is gorgeous.
Although it's hard to choose, I think this is my absolute favourite of theirs.
Stumble across this hidden gem years ago. Felt like it's my heart singing the song
Sad to see not a million views here, hopefully one day Utube would recommend it to mass.
Let's keep it for the quiet thoughtful people. You cant twerk to this.

ijonele A beautiful little poem, and I've always liked Loituma's interpretation.
Kuulin äsken radiosta Nylon Beatiä. Voi kiasus, 90-luku oli vaikeaa aikaa löytää uutta, hyvää suomalaista musiikkia! Onneksi oli Loituma!
It's so beautiful...
Beautiful music. Greetings from Turkey
One of my favorite songs ever ♥️
This song has a special place in my heart
Ihana laulu ja kaunis viuluosuus lopussa!

Back in the day when RUclips algorithms were gold
Good!!!!! love it!!!!🎉🎉😊
EPIC
I don't know why, but the vocal sounds like some Noldor elven song from Silmarillion
Because quenia is influenced by the finnish language
@@DrBitchcraft. is it? I mean like really?????
Sergio Niño yup. And of course some other languages. Tolkien in particular was actually very into finnish language
@@DrBitchcraft. I think Tolkien study finnish over 19 years (I can be wrong) just he chould read the finnish-karelian epos Kalevala. I have one thoose books which is now banned due the symbols have been used by nazi regime. Like the Swastika is I understand is the symbol for the sun. In the olden days Swastika was used for good. Thats why India and tibet have Swastika, specially Buddha have Swastika in his heart. To bad people releated to the nazi. (sorry my broken english)
@@statostheman I also know that Gandalf is based on the finnish demigod/hero Väinämöinen!
Finnish sounds cool, I'd like to learn how to speak it
Yes, indeed.
Nice And good from Algeria.
Woooow that outro.....
I think shine is better translation than shining
I would be tempted to learn the language, but I doubt I am equal to the challenge.
This song's melody is sad.
Melancholy is the main element of Finnish songs. Some of them are plain haunting.
the violin at the end sounds...slightly untuned at certain parts? Is it correct to put it this way? Anyway is there a name for this type of playing? I really love it.
what the fuck. Cheap memes get me here. And this music is amazing!
finnish isn't hard, it is just different from english.
Mine too.
I have been looking for a download of the Tuulerar -Levan Polkka ! Can any body please help me . Craig from Sydney Australia
It is Tuuletar ievan polkka
Wonderful song ! Is this sung in formal finnish or is it rather coloquial language ?
amel82light Mostly formal Finnish with some spoken language mixed in
Mostly formal, some informal mixed there, maybe to fit better in the melody and rhythm.
It's also filled with a lot of poetic word order - a common feature in songs,
for example: '(a) fair day' put to '(a) day fair', like English can do as well.
I would like to have Finnish friend and learn how to speak Finnish
im finnish, where are u from?
Are you sure? :)
What is your native language?

it is normal finnish
Where can I find the full album?

Whats the deal with Finns and tango?
Is there a Finnish who wants to be friends?
@@valekayttaja7518 I'm from Turkey
@@n1s4_18Ah okay nice :) do you want to talk somewhere? Snapchat maybe?
Sounds oddly Hungarian.
Gerbert Thorne the languages are related
No they're not, they have nothing in common.
They are related; both are descendants of Proto-Uralic, but that doesn't explain why the song sounds "oddly Hungarian", as they are so distantly related. The song sounding like Hungarian is probably just a coincidence.
+Gerbert Thorne
Hungarian and Finnish are in fact related; they are both members of the Uralic group of languages. The Sami languages of northern Europe along with Estonian are also members of the Uralic languages.
It's nice to know that there are people out there that appreciate the linguistic as well as the musical uniqueness of the Uralic peoples of Europe. Like my Celtic ancestors, our cultures and languages are in danger of being overrun by the Indo-European speakers.
I thought this was going to be a video of 2 memes combined
