This really makes me want to go and play Ghost of Tsushima again...
Like on pc...? 😎
Ivd said that too. Ghost is more stylish, despite the combat being slower and classic.
This is just odd. Juggling a guy with a pistol. Some faces not making any sort of expression. It just seems un finished
That's probably the better game despite ronin being a recent release
That’s the thing about this game. It seems like a mix between Sekiro and Ghost. But it also seems like it’d just have me wanting to play those games again.

Ghost still looks like the newer game as well
Years of team ninja games have taught me that the gameplay will be 10/10 and their ability to tell a cohesive story 1/10. Story obviously won't stop me from getting the game. It might even be really good.
Is there a story? Yes. What’s it about? Yes
The fact parry and blocking are different inputs sucks tbh.
You think that's bad? In Wo Long parry was connected to dodge button. 😂 @@Sean3D2Y
“Cool, another cutscene where I don’t know what the fuck it’s happening and who the hell are these people”
@@Sean3D2Y They are in basically every single game, especially souls like games. All fromsoft games have blocking and parrying on different inputs, and ones that mash them together like sekiro have an alternate but mandatory parry on a separate button. All team ninja games have always had them separate so it'd be weird if they made them the same. The only ones I can think of that do are Lies of P, and I'm good without that
As a Nioh vet my advice to not go insane over loot is every now and then just equip the best stuff you have then sell/scrap everything else in your inventory until you get to a point where the levels plateau and you can start build crafting.
💯 this
I’m trying to decide on either getting rise of ronin or nioh 2 any suggestions? It’s really hard to decide 😂😅
@@dree__holiday7928 oooooh. Depends on what you're into. Nioh is mission based and has a ton of skill trees and is kinda like Diablo loot wise. Ronin is somewhere between that and Ghost of tsushima with it's open world.
The amount of loot and getting overloaded with it is why I always fall out of my playthrough. Playing thru nioh 2 now and on 2nd location and trying to keep my equipment total below 100. I need learn how to just let go and delete it
@@user-isntavailable yeah nioh especially just let it go. Unless it has like a very specific transferable trait that you might want later, you're going to find better stuff anyway. I didn't start keeping things till after NG+ when you start getting divine quality stuff.
Jake gotta say your reviews are cohesive, to the point, and speaking my language. Love ACG but sometimes dance around the problems. Sup with the horse though!?!?

The things I love most about this game are the customization and the setting. There aren't a lot of games (especially open world games) that focus on this period in Japan, which is crazy because its such a good concept for a game. The only other game I know of that has this same setting is Way of the Samurai 4 and I absolutely loved that game.

@@ByrgenworthGraduate thats why I simply play them one year after release. Not only the price drops from 70 to 30 or so. The bugs get fixed also
True but not only the game got sub par graphics but there is also a lot of clipping and things popping on screen as you walk inside a cities for example. I feel like games like ghost of Tsushima offer much less graphical compromise and the game is few years old now
I think Team Ninja mentioned that while they didn't wanna ignore the graphics, the focus was much, much more on making the gameplay fun.
I'm about 8 hours into the game and I feel like I've barely tapped into it. The gameplay 'loop' is really satisfying in itself. Unlike some games where it might feel like a chore going through the hoops, this game makes it incredibly enjoyable. Can't wait to keep playing.

Allready played it and my main grievence is, that the parry timer feels slightly off. It is different from other games that also imbue perfect parry (I was almost always too early). You have to parry on impact, not on start of the animation. I tried out easy mode. It doesn't take away much from the combat but you get a slightly bigger window for perfect parry and a slightly elongated stagger timer for enemies.
Parrys have always been about doing right as ur about to hit in any game ever what are u yapping about ( u have no brain)
I agree, something seems off on parries. It was like this in Wo Long and Lies of P on a few select mobs; but for this game, it's all humanoid mobs weapon parries and throws me off.
Prefer that parrying on impact adds more weight like sekiro makes it so you really feel that parry
Yeah, the Parry is closer to Skiro time window. While Lies of P is even tighter.
Devs like team ninja have so much respect in my eyes. You have this deeply passionate group of devs that are super into “rule of cool” . They take an idea , even if the idea is a generic one like action game with samurais, they use their experience with the genre, implement the core features and then create these unique elements that gives a twist on the basic formula creating an experience that has its own identity of experimentation, creativity and signature of the studio style of trying to create something recognizable but having its own characteristics, all this with 1/20 of the budget that ubisoft has to develop the same thing over and over again. I think the heroes of the industry are the ones creating these lower budget games that are not aiming at creating experiences based on appealing to a generic audience but focus in group that are open to unpolished experiences that try to deliver the sincerity of creativity even if it fails sometimes. Its a waste that major studios are not the ones pushing innovation and taking risks anymore. Very few of the AAA major players will bet in new. Problem is , like what we can see with ubisoft now, a expensive game that wants to appeal to everyone will result in the bloat, stagnation and mediocrity that is now a signature of studios that push products only as content with no regard of actually doing the work to innovate and have a artistic voice

Probably my most anticipated game of the year. This is pretty funny, because all of your legit criticism's could be said about any of Team Ninja's games of the past decade. So if that's all that is wrong, I'm still on board. Nioh and Wo Long were not lookers either, but had fantastic gameplay mechanics. The teaser for this one had me at Meiji Restoration Ghost of Tsushima!
Nioh was not it for me, but Wo Long was a strong game that didn't get its due recognition.
I'd argue that Nioh 2 was indeed a looker, problem is all the games since haven't improved in looks, lighting seems to be a real problem for their aging engine.
@@cenciende9401 I think that Nioh 2 was impressive for targeting an almost locked 60fps on PS4 but I don't really think that it looks that great outside of its amazing motion blur and certain effects even on PS5/PC. I do think that the game's presentation was good despite its shortcomings though.
@EDLCSonofDavid Have you played both? Nioh 1 was meh for me but I really enjoyed Nioh 2.

Same 80 euros seems too much for this, i usually dont like the open world checklist collectable thingy but the enemy camps and mainstory fights etc are more my groove, but i assume the playtime wont be worth the money. I bought tekken 8 at full price and i have atleast 100 hours in it now, i don't expect this game to be more than 20-30 hours before i got most personal fun content done but it still looks fun, only not worthy of a full EIGHTY euros in my book

@@intellectic9155 team ninja doesn’t just shovel out crap like Ubisoft or activison
Check out my game im working on, its just me currently working on it, it is a traditional ninja experience.
Don't ask questions just consoooooom
@@intellectic9155You’re just a garbage player. Cry harder 😂
I'm playing this before Dragon's Dogma 2. Graphics aren't really a bother to me tbh, as long as the gameplay and combat is good and I'm having fun. Judging by this video, I think I'm gonna have some fun with this game.
I’m gonna get it after DD2 because this game is def NOT worth 70 dollars
I feel like both Niohs are absolutely hot garbage except their combat, yet I love them nonetheless. So this game is a must get for me I guess.
@@Chadius_Thundercockfacts man , I keep going from video to video to see which game to buy and I’m sorry but DD2 most definitely looks like a 70 dollar game
@@Superstarr721no it does not 😭 barely 30 fps buddy
@@evilOrchis you got the game ?
I thought about buy it but after watching it i doesn't seem bad but just not my thing i hope for a closer to GOT instead of soul like kind of dumb of me
I will see you next time! Never gets old , love your videos and reviews always helpful.
Collectable cats? Count me in
I am a simple guy. I see a samurai game. I click like. We need more samurai games.
They see me Ronin, They playing!
Try to catch me rise and dirty
This was creative lol very funny
I may but this one. I want the Sekiro style fighting game which this may be close to but I haven’t even finish FF7 yet and I heard DD2 is pretty good, so we’ll see.
Ok, I can understand that many people here are enjoying the game. And good for you guys! You paid a lot of money!
I pre-booked this game and have been playing this from day 1.
Here's why I agree with the RUclipsrs:
A. I expected the game to be at least as beautiful and picturesque as Ghost of Tsushima.
It's like Witcher 3 or Red Dead Redemption 2, at best.
Basically, the graphics suck!
B. Story: Voice overs are generic, background voices are so low that you can barely hear them and the dialogues are superfluous.
Heck, the main character doesn't even have a voice!! Wth!!
C. Combat has variety but unnecessarily complex. Eg. Doesn't explain which weapon of stance work against what. It's really poor.
D. Story. It's only been a week and I am already tired of the story. It's been quite predictable until now.
But: I'll continue to play because I have paid for it and don't have anything better to play.
This games belong to a PC in 2012, not a PS5.
Lastly, I hope I get proven wrong by upcoming game play. I pray so. Else, money down the drain.
I'm excited to play this when it inevitably comes to GamePass next year
LOL 😅
Fairly new to gaming been playing for 1.5 years and am retired school counselor at 72 got PS5 as a present totally addicted. Have all the time in the world. Just finished Ghost of Tsushima, awesome.
What is Nioh (? Sp). Have seen it mentioned in several RUclips videos
You should give skyrim a go
If you liked the stort driven aspect of Ghost of Tsushima you could really enjoy the God of war reboots (God of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarok). As a retired counsellor I think you might have a lot of insight into how it deals with parenthood, loss and guilt.
Nioh is a great game, but is very difficult and not very welcoming to players new to action role playing games. Horizon Zero Dawn is a good game too, similar kind of genre
Try out assassin's creed black flag - enjoy your gaming tsushima was awesome 👌
This is the best Team Ninja game since Ninja Gaiden Black! I'm loving this, sooo much content it's like Ghosts of Tushima x 10. And an amazing story, Wo Long story was such trash but they really put it ALL together, the combat is so addictive!
Why reviewers calling Team ninja souls like combat? Ninja gaiden series had some of the toughest boss battles way before souls like games came out
Cause games like nioh adopted that formula.
Ninja gaiden!!! Wooo, I broke a couple of controllers playing those games.
Ninja Gaiden didn't have lock on or stamina, this game seems to have them. Different combat systems.
@@omegazx7236 ninja gaiden sigma or black on Xbox 1 had stamina meter
Nioh really is a Souls clone though (only too hard for me LOL)
This seems like a spiritual successor to The Way of the Samurai games I used to play. Really loved those games. Unfortunate that I'll probably never get to play this game because I'm on xbox.
So, basically this is way of the samurai but modernized
Team Ninja always have incredibly fun and interesting gameplay so will always buy their games day one. Unfortunately its dev cycle was incredibly long (7-9 years supposedly) so the design decisions feel way dated for 2024. Think this game will be a solid foundation for future games though
Yup. This games feel like was released 7 years ago
"finishing enemies off, feels so awesome" Ayfuckingyoooo 😂 3:52
Lol 😂
Gotta get those head pops
This game reminds me to finish Like a Dragon Ishin.
Flawed fun , This is why I love gameranx, it's what I gather from these reviews and footage
Already preordered this and DD2… still working on FF7 rebirth… not enough time!!
@briandprice1981 you're crazy FF7 is way better than both of those games
@@kingflocka6501facts.
@briandprice1981 You're complaining about nothing. It literally has more weight to it than Nioh and Fromsoft games. It's okay if you don't like FF7R, but that game is great.
@briandprice1981you wrote a lot without saying anything at all, literally everything you said was wrong, congrats

I'm just a random guy in the comments but Dragons Dogma 1 was a "Top 25 of all time" game for me. Give that a try and see if you like it. If you do, check out part 2!
Dragons dogma for sure!
@@timothylewis2527Personally I have too many games I know I want to play. To take a chance on a game I might want to at the moment
This is pushing me more towards the buy option haha. Thanks!
Seeing both gameplays confirms to me that ghost is a superior game in story telling, gameplay dynamics and graphics
Story n graphics yeah, combat is significantly better tho
I'm excited for this tonight. Got it loaded.. Just installed Dragons Dogma 2 on the PC and it's being shelved until I finish this title because I know DD2 will be a longer experience than this so i'm savoring it.
Man this has to be the most "last-gen looking" next gen game todate!
If you woulda've told me this was a 2018 game running on PS4 I woulda've believed you no question...
i would believe 2010 game...
@@senseinuuhthat’s a bit of a stretch.
I LOVED Ghost of Tsushima, but I HATE souls-like games.
Soo.. I'm torn between this.
Maybe I'll wait a week to see what others say about it. I'm still trying to finish Outer Worlds while also enjoying Helldivers 2 every now and then with friends.
I love Outer Worlds. Criminally underrated game. Everyone should play it now that it's on PS Plus
take in consideration that this is make by team ninja and their most recent games have been souls like so this one may continue in the same direction Based on what you say, the game may not be what you are looking for.
Same here, I'm honestly tired of these souls-like games, same formula over and over for these games.
Team ninja's style is so different from other souls games that it's hard to even compare them to the "souls-like genre" even though that's technically what they are. They are often much faster and higher intensity, but more generous and gives you a million ways to solve each problem. I wouldn't use fromsoft as a comparison to what they're doing because it would give you the wrong idea. The closest fromsoft has ever gotten to teamninja is Bloodborne, and it's slight. Nioh 2 on sale gets to like $20, and thats a much better intro to what they are doing
@@eXiLe824 Yea I never played it at first, but I'm loving it now that it's on PS Plus lol. And I'm taking my time with it. I know people can easily rush through it. Overall it's not a HUGE game by any means. But it's fun enough to keep me wanting more. And I'm a VERY picky gamer. I'll abandon a game right away if it doesn't "pull me in" a certain way. Also, as a casual gamer who cares more about story and fun than being a "try hard" that needs a challenge, I appreciate paced games like this.
"Some people don't need another one of these games" sums it up pretty well for me I think. I wanted to be interested in this game; but, for most of this video, all I could think was "why wouldn't I just play Ghosts / Nioh / Sekiro instead?" As always, I appreciate your phenomenal reviews. I'll probably wait to grab this one used at GameStop so I can return it if it doesn't click for me.
Very informative - thanks! Always looking forward to this Before You Buy series!
It's a weird critique, but I hate how you sheathe a bloody sword. That just ruins the blade
I thought the same!! Ghosts of tushima has a cool little animation of wiping the blood off before sheathing, it’s only a small detail but that’s what makes great games great
they do clean there sword though heard the sword cleaning is a combat mechanic ( like a reload system ) don't know if its true
@@myles5388Nioh 1 and 2 even had the character cleaning the blade, so why they'd remove that boggles the mind.
@@sebastianb.3978 seems to be a theme especially with sequels from the same devs/engine not bringing over certain things that they’ve already implemented
@@myles5388 So, this is awkward, but you actually can clean your blade. You just have to hold the button and stick a little. They even got multiple cleaning animations per weapon xD
