      Steer by wire should terrify everyone. Anyone remember journalist Michael Hastings? He was about to publish a huge story on General Stanley McCrsytal when he phoned a friend and said he thought his Mercedes had been tampered with but he couldn't say more as he knew the FBI monitored all their calls. A bit later his Mercedes accelerated to over 100mph on a residential street and then veered straight into a tree, enough force to separate and launch the engine 75 feet out of the car. Numerous articles were written about that being the first hacked and "remotely controlled car". Google has tried to scrub those story of all this off the net but you can still find them.

      Gongrats on your new car, but please dont tell me you bought an EV cause you think you are doing less harm to the environment, cause the reality is that the more EV's are on the road, the harder the kids slave trade in the Congo has to be stepped up to keep up with the demand for cobalt that is used in the batteries of these boat anchors called EV's. Also you do realize that if everyone drove an EV, the pollution in the air would be far worse than it is now cause these cars are basically powered by fossil fuels. How else do you get the batteries charged. Oh and lets not start about the harm to the environment once all these car batteries die and start piling up in land fills if they dont have a way to recycle them which i am pretty sure has not been figured out yet. So basically the only benefit to an EV is that you save on fuel costs.

    • @mr.gaypenguin3187
      @mr.gaypenguin3187 Год назад +14

      @@BoomBox02 Well you're fun. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. While it is true that electricity is often generated from coal, it is important to recognize the need for change in the sources that fuel our power grid. Rather than directing negativity towards individual users, let us focus our efforts on advocating for change within the large companies that invest millions of dollars in maintaining a coal-based energy grid for the sake of profit. Choosing electric vehicles is one step towards a more sustainable future, but we must also push for change in our power grid and hold those in positions of power accountable for prioritizing profit over human lives.

    • @BoomBox02
      @BoomBox02 Год назад

      @@mr.gaypenguin3187 The only real way forward is to go nuclear, but that is something people seem afraid of. The current plan for cleaner energy is just not possible. As it stands, there is not enough resources on earth to make enough electric cars to replace all the gas powered cars. That may change or maybe it wont. You have the destruction of earth in areas that are mined as well as all the machinery pumping out emissions because they are all fossil fuel powered. There are simply not enough solar panels and wind powered electricity to power earth and then what happens once all the solar panels expire. They dont last forever. You have the waste issue that will be an ongoing thing. For governments to be pushing clean energy so hard in our faces and being lenient on those activists that continually break the law and getting away with it, i cant help but think that these politicians pushing the agenda are getting their pockets lines with serious cash. We are all being fed a lie about climate change, especially when it comes to governments buying out peoples farms or having farm owners kill a majority of their live stock because of the methane they produce. This makes no sense and everyone goes along with it without asking questions. Climate has never been something that has stayed static. It has always changed. Bison have been around for thousands of years and Buffalo have been around for hundreds of years. They also fart and burp, but no one ever brings up the history about them when governments want to kill cattle because of climate change. Cows are not bringing any new gases into the atmosphere. What is new is the amount of methane that is being released because of land fills and the ever growing amount of decomposing paper, food and grass around the world. They would rather kill farmers cows and leave the rotting garbage to pollute the climate instead. What can i say. These are not my thoughts, these are facts that have been studied and the info is out there for all to find. You wont see the main stream media arguing some of these points. The only valid reason for owning an electric car today is to save on high fuel costs. No one owning one is saving the earth. That is just a narrative that has been drilled in everyones head and some really believe thay are saving the earth driving one.

      they're reliable where it matters... Some gimmicks failing is not such a big fuzz. This Lexus' platform on the other hand has had some massive issues and the Toyota and Subaru counterparts are utter failures. You guys also fail to acknowledge that Teslas are absolutely revolutionary in the way they build cars. Some of the cars like the Model 3 have cast subframes with less parts than a 90s corolla. Simple, light, economic and super stiff. Their suspensions have always been designed to the highest standards. The Model S for example has all aluminium arms in double wishbone configuration. It drives fantastically even after a decade of being in the market. Quality is not just avoiding rattles and sticking pieces of plastic closer together.

      @@AI-qd4vb I'm choosing between an i-Pace, Model Y, and RZ at the moment. I'm pretty open minded. If Tesla had Apple Carplay I'd already have bought a Model Y Long Range. But you can't seriously say that Tesla make high quality cars? For sure the tech in the motors is world class, but the cars? Model S is almost always in the bottom 3 least reliable cars in any survey done. You can't discount bad build quality to just being about rattles and squeaks! I agree the bZ4X has reliability issues too - it's a mid-level performer in most surveys. But, it does at least come with a 10 year warranty (if you service annually with Toyota). The RZ which came out later was top of the biggest EV reliability survey so maybe Lexus fixed some of the issues? I'm not pro-Lexus or anti-Tesla. They just have different strengths and weaknesses. I can see how for some the lower range on the RZ is a deal breaker. But I live in a warm climate, can charge at home, and rarely do more than 100km/day. If we do go on a long trip, my wife has an Ioniq 5. For me the i-Pace looks better and is more fun to drive, the warranty is not bad, but I'm a little concerned about the future of Jaguar - they sell so few cars, will be local dealer still be here in 2-3 years?

Electric cars are notorious for not starting in cold weather (search online, don’t take my word for it). Also, if you are older and not rich, it’ll be cheaper and easier to find a mechanic to service your car should anything serious happen. Depending on a single, fully electric car in a cold northern region as an older individual seems like unnecessary and expensive risk.

      No, Toyota will NOT start delivering EVs with solid-state batteries. They will MAYBE start to deliver MHEVs in 2025 with very tiny solid-state batteries, as those in MHEVs are. If you are in the market for an EV with a solid battery you will probably have to wait another six or seven years. Technology is not the problem, it is here. The problem is that solid-state batteries are really expensive to build and not a single production facility exists or is in the planning for solid-state batteries for EVs, until the end of the decade. But I completely agree with you, that solid-state batteries will be the future for EVs unless hydrogen against all odds should start to take off.

    Two other minor problems Matt forgot to mention. One is whether or not like it's Toyota sister the bz4 it has a tendency to have the wheels fall off. Also, does it have the same problem of being unable to do fast-charging in cold weather? That would require a full battery system redesign to fix so I suspect the answer to that question is yes. That makes this vehicle absolutely untenable in colder climates.

    • @berylcloud
      @berylcloud Год назад

      li-ion batteries are quite tricky when charging in cold temps, especially in 0-degree C weather. It's actually really dangerous to charge li-ions at below freezing temps because they could explode. Small short, big fire.

  • @Mark-yb2kj
    @Mark-yb2kj Год назад +8

    What a nice overall car! And a nice review, despite one point: You are driving fast after accelerating for expressing it's speed and shortly after you are calculating a consumption guess which make it look like the Lexus range is underperformed compared to what they state. I'm sure Lexus also makes a very accurate range estimation while driving normally again and you will definitely reach the suggested total range of one charge. However as driving a Hybrid, Lexus is perfectly accurate. Not only that: the consumption which is displayed within the car is even higher than in reality, when you make an accurate check at the gas station when refilling. Try finding a competitor competing with this not even mentioning the longevity of their cars and batteries.
