What people think she said was, "I've never listened to Evanescence", but what she ACTUALLY said was, "I never listen to Evanescence", which makes a million times more sense. Her point: "I don't associate myself with their music. It has nothing to do with me as an individual." Carly isn't Amy and doesn't want to be Amy. Carly is Carly. It's not a hard concept.

For me she was the real "Star" talent on Idol this season. From slow and low performances like Here You Come Again to all out full volume ones like Crazy On You Carly shined. She was also one of the few who consistently showed professionalism, and delivered vocally, in the pure cheese group numbers. I look forward to Ellen's show Tuesday from Chicago when Carly and Micheal Johns perform together.

If you hear carefully you can notice that Carly's voice is kind of raspy, while Amy's voice is more delicated. And also there is the fact that Amy never came out of a tv reality like the greatest artists before those shitty shows appear.
i cried for three hours after she was voted off. this girl was my hero and i did everything i could to keep her in this show...everyone who didnt try the same as me should be ashamed of letting this girl go...she is my life hero and is the best person i've ever seen or wish to have known...god bless you carly and you will be more successful than any of the other idols
she is an angel, sue me if i'm wrong, but she is so truly sweet and honest person, she is so talented. ever since i discovered her she is my favourite singer, my best influence. she is great :)
Ever since I saw Carly Smithson in San Jose at the Idols Live tour I've been going back and watching some of these older videos. She has a fascinating story/history behind her. I have to agree with "critics" who call her a ringer though, I think she was clearly the most talented person on the cast this year. And when I'm say talented I mean strictly on singing ability not the ability to make young girls squeal with delight.
Best idol this season. I'm a huge David Cook fan....but Carly was the ONLY singer this season that gave me chills listening to her. The fact that Jason Castro is still on the show and Carly is gone is all the evidence you need that the voting system on AI is a complete and utter joke. No Carly has made the last two episodes of AI almost unwatchable.
They are the same style of music, Gothic Rock, and Evanescence basically made that genre what it is and every singer of that genre will now be compared PLUS her band, We Are the Fallen, has a few members from Evanescence in it so of course they will sound similar.
Carly is so charming and talented that watching her for eight minutes just flashes by like that [snaps fingers]. This gal really sings the crap out of those Heart covers. What a VOICE!
She is absolutely awesome, a beautiful looking woman and a fantastic singer, her voice is so pure and soulful. She will go on to bigger and better things and she will have a No.1 record. I think Ellen likes her a lot too. Love you Carly, you are amazing.
The name The Fallen was already owned so they had to go with the (We Are) tacked on there. As long as Carly's singing though they could call the band whatever they want.
I wasn't tripping, I swear!!!! (Just meant that AI controls them so much, it must be frustrating - so when they're out, even though they still have obligations to the show, the stress is lifted and they give a much more 'at ease' and 'natural' performance; Michael Johns too!) Carly and Michael must be somewhat relieved, as much as they would have kicked a** in the finals had they got there - they're on tour, they're famous (atm, anyway) worldwide and top 6 and 8 respectively!
I could not agree more, Carly should have gone on to win, how can America still have kept Jason and Brooke on and not Carly. She was the only one I wanted to watch on AI. I have stopped watching it now, because there is no talent on it, now that Carly has gone. She is a brilliant, beautiful singer who sends chills down my spine, whenever she sings. Carly seems so at peace with her post Idol self I don't feel so badly about her getting the shaft. Her tour performances, from what I've seen on RUclips, are excellent!

I really think Carly should have won and I only think people stopped voting her is because of the whole "she's already had a record deal and it failed".. So what!? She's much better now and she definitely should have won! My favorite performance, by far, was the first Beetles round where she sang Come Together!!! I loved it!

She has such a beautiful voice! She really should have won, but alas, AI is family oriented so an awesome rocker chick with tats wasn't going to win. But I still cannot get over how much she looks like Amy Lee. Certain angles, a certain way her hair is done, her smile. Ugh, it's so strange. I love WATF but I still cannot get over their look. I'm really glad she decided to stay in a neutral zone about Ev and WATF.
Wow this performance could have been the knockout performance of the season had she sang it during the 80s week. Carly could have brought the house down with this one. Excellent voice. Her version of this song is way better than either Ramiele's live or studio version.
Then what are you referencing? What are the interviews you saw? I would love to see them, as I've seen just about every post-idol interview Carly has done and I don't remember hearing her say that.
Think on this for ONE minute...IF WATF did a cover of "Half Breed"--and really rock that shit up, it would be a hit all over again with her voice. She could do "IF I Could Turn Back Time" too and make it a hit for herself. She has that deep quality in her voice AND can hit those high notes. She could take Cher songs to a new level...Think about it.
I feel they had their heads up David Arculeta's ass this season she should have been in the finally with David Cook. Those were the best two along with Micheal Johns RIP Micheal.
Then please explain to me why she does covers of Going Under and why Bring Me to Life was one of the highlight songs she performed on Idol? How the hell does she know those songs if she's doesn't listen to Ev? It's no coincidence that their music is so strikingly similar when she's working with the EX MEMBERS and she wants to claim she 'doesn't associate' if she'd just address the similarities for what they are instead of lying about it.
I do agree, her style has changed. I don't know for sure why, probably because she was just trying to get out there as a pop star and couldn't really dress like she was a rocker for image purposes. I can't say for sure. I just know that her style is very different from Amy's. Amy wears colorful dresses and heavy, bright makeup. Carly almost always wears black when she performs nowadays, and her makeup is ALWAYS neutral colored and much less heavy. Look for the differences and you'll find them ;)
