- Watch as we join the last Scandinavian Airbus A340 on its final journey.
Sitting quitly on the tarmac, with her cabin nicely prepared for passengers, 'Astrid Viking' was ready, as if this was just another flight. Lately, her siblings had all vanished from the airport, as she was now the last of her kind. The following morning, she took one last flight. This time just three pilots on board.
'Astrid Viking' aka OY-KBM departed Copenhagen Airport for Tuscon to go through US customs. She then continued on a short flight to the airplane graveyard at Pinal Airpark in Marana where she joined her siblings.
The Airbus A340 was the wide-body flagship in the Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) fleet from 2001 to 2020. The withdrawal of the A340's was set for 2021, but as the coronavirus took its toll on world travel, these birds were retired in 2020. They are now replaced by the new Airbus A350-900.
With special thanks to SAS and the three pilots flying the last flight.
Watch with headphones for the best experience!

I was a SAS employee from 1988-2002. Now living in Tucson Arizona. I'll look after our old bird that I often fly over when departing nearby "Marana Regional". This is in a small aircraft called "Erik the Red" displaying a decal copied from the old SAS aircraft.
The sad a340 will always have a place in my heart. I usually lived in China and my dad is Swedish. Every summer we took the flight from Shanghai to Copenhagen. When we moved back to Sweden every summer we took the flight from Copenhagen to Shanghai on the a340. It is my favourite plane and I have flown on it a lot of times. I don’t know what it is but planes with four engines are much cooler
Iconic look, ex. Boeing 707, MD DC-8. There's something about 4 engined aircraft that makes today's dual engined planes look boring by comparison, IMHO.
Nice video, but little sad 😢
the crosswind thakeoff at 2:44 , my favortite moment when it drifts to the side soo heavy hmmmm
has a dad who has flown this aircraft for many many years, many thousand hours. He now flies A350, but sure miss it
Sad stuff. I haven’t had the chance to fly the A340 :(
Shame Captain Bjorn was not part of the last flight.
Thanks. Yes, would have been fun and could have given a thorough description of what's special with the A340. 😉
😍🤩
Had the privilege of flying on 7/8 of SAS's A340s. Missed out on OY-KBI which still bugs me to this day. All in all one of my all Time favorite aircraft to fly as a passenger.
WTF YALL TALKING ABT THE A340 AKA A330-A340 IS BACK YALL THEY RENEWED IT
Tragic that these beautiful aircraft will never grace European skys again (Lufthansa still operating a few) and the odd cargo 340 still in use, but surely the 346 is the best looking 4 engined non supersonic aircraft of all time, I was fortunate to fly from DC to LHR pre Covid on a Virgin 340-600 from memory less than 70 passengers on board.
A fantastic experience and something that unfortunately will never be repeated .
Bangkok, Tokyo, Washington, New York, Los Angeles, San Fransisco,so many times I’ve enjoyed long hauls with this lovely aircraft. The only not enjoyable flight was out from IAD when Sandy hit the US east coast..
😭Haven't been on any 4-engine jets in my life, and it went away
Such a shame, Will be missed
Beautiful production as always, liked. 👍
Great video, sad story :(
