    I cannot tell you how happy I am that I stumbled on your channel about a year ago or so. I have been cycling for years but used my home as the start and end of my sometimes daily cycling routes. I did not know much about the many old rail trails in Ontario. I have done about 7 so far this season and I am now addicted. The countryside and calm of the trail systems is such an escape from the daily grind. This one is next on my list. Keep up the great work!

      You have no idea how awesome it is to receive a comment like this. It inspires me to keep adding to the collection. Just be warned, there is a bridge out between Palgrave and Caledon, so you will have to find a route around. Good luck and enjoy.

    Terrific video! Very informative. Thank you for all you put into this! We look forward to doing this trail in the spring! We completed the Confederation Trail on PEI last year and every rail trail in between and absolutely loved it!

      Thank you for the comment AMI. This was actually my first ever video. I have since made videoa of many of the rail trails in Southern Ontario. I also have a very loose plan to go and do some extensive cycling in PEI, but I don't think it will be this year.

    Rode this trail inspired by your video. Appreciate the time it took to get the different camera angles and the history commentary. Reflecting on your notes as I rode made the ride a lot richer. Thx!

    Just found your channel amazing story. Have you tried the Uxbridge to Lindsay rail trail. It’s very similar to this trail. Cheers

    Hello Andrew! I discovered your channel quite by accident and I love your story. I too am a huger fan of rail trails as they are great for beginning riders who want to do distances. They are especially important for riders who may have health issues and cannot do severe grades. I too ride with a disability from which ended my running life and I am so grateful to have riding to fall back on. Please keep up the good work! I look forward to your future videos on the Windsor trails and the one in Sarnia!

      Thank you Shell I really appreciate your comments. I shall have to travel west at some point to explore the trails around Windsor and Sarnia.

    This trail is a bit of a drive from my house in Cambridge. So I keep forgetting about it. I’ll have to give it a try one day

    I was going to take a bunch of weeks last year to cycle Southern Ontario, but work ties me down. Was thinking this year, but again... work. Got my sights on next year now. I love the rail trails and want to see them ALL! :-D
    I've come across a few 'former runners' on bikes in my travels and most seem to have similar stories to your own. Cycling seems to be a natural progression when you refuse to give up! LOL
    South-Central Ontario rail trails are hit and miss as far as surfacing goes. The Great Trail between Uxbridge and Campbellford is decent riding for ~700c tires. Other sections require heavier tires or even a Fat Bike (Hello Tweed!). Country roads in the area are also amazing! Some Spectacular scenery there!
    Good job on the Voice-Over info. Very engaging (and informative! :-D). This is something lacking from my videos.
    Looks like a GREAT ride. Thanks for sharing! (Subscribed!)

    Very cool ride.
    Also, I wasn’t expecting your history lesson but sure glad I watched this since I’m a 7th generation BrickMaker and so many of these types of stories are lost to history when it was once quite commonplace.

    Awesome video Andrew, thanks! Looks like Terra Cotta to Tottenham! Nice to see the Defy doing such a great job on rail trail (one of my fav types of trail).

    Amazing story👍 I find it hard to relate to the cardiac event but when my knee was damaged running the specialist told me the fix was surgery or easy cycling... An easy choice. Great trail and looking forward to checking out your other videos.

    I rode a part of this trail on my last tour. I really enjoyed it. I'd love to ride the entire trail one day, as you say, it's flat and doable.

    We did that trail a few times from the south-end to Tottenham and back, several years ago. We did it on our tandem bike. We stopped doing this trail because (at that time) the trail going into Tottenham was terrible. It wasn't even a trail, more of a single lane track thru the grass. It looks like that it's be fixed and a nice trail in that section now? Is that true?

    • @cardiaccyclist7477
      @cardiaccyclist7477  3 года назад +1

      Oh yes they have definitely put a lot of effort into it. It's very smooth now, because it's exclusively foot and pedal. Not like Haliburton where you share the trail with ATV's. The ATV drivers are all great, but it still roughs the trail up and makes it more of a challenge.

    Have you ridden the trail from Orangeville to Owen Sound?

    • @cardiaccyclist7477
      @cardiaccyclist7477  Год назад +1

      Jamie, that is such a coincidence that you ask that. The short answer is no. The more in depth answer is I will do it very soon. The reason being that I want to do an approximate 425 KM loop starting on that trail. I want to ride it first though because I have heard it is rough. If it is too bad, I will probably abandon the idea of doing the full loop later in the summer. Have you ridden on it?

    • @fatbikejamie
      @fatbikejamie Год назад +1

      @@cardiaccyclist7477 no but i would like to if I ever get back that way. I used to live near Laurel, went to public school in Orangeville and high school in Shelburne. I rode a lot as a kid in the area (who knew "gravel" would become trendy 40 years later 🤣) it would have been an active train track back then. Can't wait to do it vicariously if not in person! Cheers
