Dee Clark took Little Richard's band The Upsetters went on tour with him when Little Richard became a minister in 1961.This only lasted a few months,Little Richard went back to playing rock-n-roll and the band rejoined him..Dee was one of the top R&B singers of the early 60's..I played for him several times, his last performance was with my band at The Portman Lounge in Anderson,SC..Dee had falling on hard times due to illness and lived in a small one room motel at The Lone Oak in Toccoa,Georgia. The female owner was a fan and also would give him free meals. He enjoyed living there,he told me that he went fishing most every week and he would clean and eat his catch of the day.He told me that as long as he had a roof over his head, food to eat and was able to sing,he was a happy man..He died in 1990,he was only 52..see a memorial of him at www.findagrave.com

      Thanks for that Jimmy.
Dee was a great artist who deserved more success and died too young. So good to hear he was at least happy ! Thanks again.
