@james Doctor, They do in some but nowhere near like Logic does. I liked Logic but the crashes were killing me. I switched over to windows and use Samplitude now and am never going back!!
Dude seriously My 2015 retina just decided last week to play back my projects without overloading all the time. Never had this problem , freezing tracks is just a temp fix , im just frustrated with this shit.
100% solution: 1. Get rid of not necessary or hidden tracks/midi-regions if any. 2. Use Freeze on audio/soft tracks that are complete as arrangement parts. I did that two steps and my CPU usage while playing arrangement now is about 20% instead of 100% and no more annoying messages.
Great video, thanks CJ. I recently upgraded the RAM on my 27'' Imac & it made a world of difference. I added an extra 8GB for around $45. And anyone can do this in 5 min with no experience. Also bouncing midi to audio helped tons. Good luck everyone!
Hey thanks for the video! I was wondering does it matter which type of external memory you store your projects on? I was thinking of using a Transcend JetDrive in the SD slot or maybe USB 3.1 flash drive- just for the seamless factor on the mac- what are your thoughts?
@@SchemeUnitRecords depends how many "cores" your CPU has, you get 1 or possibly 2 threads per core. So a modern 4 core processor can give you 8 threads
You didn’t have to do anything special. Those "trash can" macs as I call them were all outfitted with Xeons. I have on but it's starting to slow down recently with all the plugins I have going in Logic Pro. Bummer! Will need to buy a new Mac soon but am waiting to see what Apple comes out next because even though the M1 macs are pretty impressive, I need more than 8GB of RAM and hopefully soon an M2 integrated CPU. Cheers.
none of these works, every time i press play the error comes up, i am on 2013 macbook pro 8gb ram core i5 3235 i cant really afford new computer, what do i do
Buffer has little to do with CPU. The performance meter represents processing threads so logically each bar represents thread, no core (in your case two thread equal one core). You missed very important issue here: why just one thread (the last one on meter) is overloaded caused by your project? Why CPU calculations weren't spread across all threads (cores)? That's the real problem and increasing buffer size doesn't solve it.
The "very base model" of the just released 16 inch MacBook Pro: has an 8 core i9 processor with 16 gigs of Ram. You're fine! You may have to freeze tracks as 16 gigs of Ram will evaporate with todays thirsty sample libraries. Nothing wrong with freezing. I have a 12 core Mac Pro with 96 gigs of Ram and do it all the time.
@@zanewoodson7792 If it's SIXTEEN INCHES it's an 8 core i9..... 15 inches or less sounds like a 6 core i7. Either way guys are doing (beats) with far less. Freeze tracks, print tracks, and work from an external SSD.
I have a mac mini that's a 2011 model with 8 gigs of ram and 500GB memory. When I run logic pro x It'll work fine until I start using audio tracks. I emptied the mac and use 1TB external drive to let it breathe but I keep getting system overload or too slow. Not sure if I need to upgrade the mac or ram
Useful tips. Here is another one: Low buffer size when recording, high buffer size when mixing. A low buffer size (128 or 64 even) reduces the latency on your headphones when your are monitoring while recording vocals or a guitar for example. But latency doesn't matter when your are mixing, so go for the highest buffer size (1024) with confidence, this would relieve the CPU load. Another useful trick to reduce CPU load is to use freeze the tracks are not working on. The virtual instruments and plugins can demand a lot of processing power. You can also bounce or print the midi tracks to audio if you are satisfied with their sound. Btw, be sure you have at least a 30% free space on your HD too when working with audio. Computers tend to reduce their performance when the HD space is full. So free up some space

Heres a solution to a problem i had with this: properly cool ur pc. This overload started happening when the summer heatwave arrived. My 2015 macbook pro, 2,5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB never had this problem before. I started having this suspicion when i noticed that the fans became way louder than usual. So I went to a friend of mine who has air conditioning, cranked it up so we had the room below room temperature. Logic did not overload. Went home where i have no air conditioning: overload. Simply it couldnt handle the complex projects in this heat. If u take this seriously, invent in cooling.
The IO buffer only effects latency. You can increase your IO buffer if you hear crackling in your output, the crackling occurs when your IO buffer is set to low latency, and your machine cant keep up with the input output stream ...you'll hear that crackling in your audio, so I guess in a sense it does effect audio quality. To improve it, you can increase the IO buffer to allow your machine to manage the input and output stream better. This can help if your machine doesn't have enough processor power.
