@@AM.000 According to the multiple news reports you can find with a simple Google search, my cities gas went up 16.4 cents over one week and an average of 10 cents across all of Ontario. So it appears you may have an issue with reading or using google. Ford didn't raise the carbon tax, Trudeau did.

@AM.000 Ford reduced our provincial tax, to help affordability. Carbon tax does nothing for environment, but makes everything more expensive. Families are struggling and it's disgraceful liberals raised this tax. And are deceptive saying you get more money back. Shame on them.

@AM.000 what about all the taxes i pay to renovate an abandoned home.. every single $ spent fixing it is taxed with already taxed earnings ...i was living in a tent for the past 5 years, saved and worked took risk and sacrifices now living without plumbing and just got electrician done. I was going to complete the build to sell and invest in other projects as i crawl out-of-pocket poverty this will guarantee ill never get anywhere .. the government takes all the money i take all the risk... noww ill stop everything and wont sell or invest any further.

This government is truly moronic. But how is this a surprise when our finance minister lacks common sense along with knowledge of how eeconomics works? Combine that with a drama teacher, this country is f'd.
Turdeau is living proof that corruption and incompetence are not necessarily incongruous.
So they've added some focus on housing... after 8+ years of doing absolutely nothing. But the look at the level of debt they are foisting on young Canadians. Total interest payments on the debt are higher than the total government pay-outs to provinces on healthcare!?!? A budget that wildly overspends at a time when the government preaches fiscal restraint to Canadians seems like a trailer load of hypocrisy to me. Adding more spending drives up inflation, and will ultimately delay the Bank of Canada having the latitude to reduce interest rates. Trudeau and Freeland need to go back to school, and take some budgeting, finance, and economics courses, because they don't get it.
Let Canadians decide if it's time for Trudeau to go.

Instead of finding small limited items to slap taxes on, government should focus on broad sources. Instead of taxing income, which is needed to finance family standard of living or capital gains, which might subsequently fall with asset value, a progressive tax on spending should replace these. Basic needs: zero rated; elective spending on ordinary goods / services at a standard rate; luxury goods / services on a rising scale.
Taxes on high income and wealthy assets are avoidable (legal) or evadable (illegal) but taxes on spending are easily monitored through business revenue, therefore unavoidable and cheapest to collect at source.
