      I think he just thinks in a very high speed, and luckily his mouth is fast enough to voice those thoughts. Most of the people with this kind of speed of thought end up overwhelmed and diagnosed as having "racing thoughts".
      Interestingly, he talks much slower in his audiobook. I guess that was nearly a meditating process for him - reading the audiobook.

      @@imacg5 Hmmm......I hadn't considered the fact his books are also in audio form. Or that he reads them himself.
      Just a few days ago I finished his first book, My Booky Wook. And good lord was it good. Deeply entertaining and engaging and insightful. Gave me an entirely new level of respect and interest in the guy....and I already liked him quite a lot before I read it.
      I was quite bummed to finish it. For about a week I looked forward to any chance to read it. But now I can listen to the audio version!

      @@ggalvin1882 hahahaha....oh man. good one.
      Seriously though, nothing in this was rehearsed. Nothing. Read his bios. Read all his books. Look into what his whole deal is.
      The concept of rehearsal is utterly anathema to who he is as a human being. Always has been.
      I can pretty much 100% guarantee you that he didn't plan or rehearse a single thing he said here. He simply....spoke, when necessary.

      Russell Brand as a practical joke on live BBC Radio called a man named Andrew Sauchs and left a message on his answering machine saying he had sex with Sauchs' grand daughter. Do not be fooled by this man he is a hypocrite that does not have a clue.

      Maria Marchese If you pay attention to the body language he expresses here, he is actually overwhelming Maher and being condescending, as he has the upper hand, which is speed in communicating, while Maher has to rely on question-cards. Narcissists (who suffer from an actual addiction to their own SELF) almost always come off as genuine to people that don’t know them. Their sweeping charm is the first in their arsenal and unless you slight them, they come off as extremely likeable. That is because, deep down they are desperately looking for attention and admiration they never got as children. Simply, Russel’s brand (see what I did there) of narcissistic pursuits of recent times has been a shift away from chasing fame with all its pitfalls and turned towards a search for meaning through spirituality and communion. The way in which way he is trying to hone his immense ego is actually laudable, for the most part.

      It is great he's still alive and kicking. I feel that drugs are demonised, morphine is still used as a medicine worldwide. Drug users are demonised too when the sad truth is the desperation sadness or emptiness that drives them to there escape of choice. The war on drugs has been a way to enforce authoritarian views through government and media. Both of which should have been looking at the causes and solutions not just the criminalisation of usually damaged people it should have been treated as a health issue as is alcoholism. I say this as a reformed addict 25 years clean and self employed.

      TheGodEmperorofMankind while he probably would admit openly to being ego-driven and insecure, I disagree with you about your comment. He’s not being wordy to impress everyone. He undoubtedly IS tempering his word choice to keep it more conventional and comprehensible. Some people just like to be precise with language, which is actually also a way to be highly creative. Some people just have a love of language, basically.

    • @90MysteriumFascinans
      @90MysteriumFascinans 5 лет назад +9

      TheGodEmperorofMankind he’s also clearly very creative and passionate about being entertaining.... you’re judging him by some rubric that isn’t valid or entirely relevant. Have you thought about the fact that his creative word choice makes him engaging to listen to for many people? He keeps himself challenged with word play, and I actually really like it. It’s not overly complex, it’s not out of place when merely socializing. He’s intelligent and interesting, ffs.
      But I would bet money that he’s holding back his inclination to do so even more- because of needing to keep his listeners engaged and not lose them with words (or concepts) way over their head. He’s patient and conscious of this. You can tell by his focus, pacing, thoughtfulness, etc. (Most of his vocabulary is interesting but understandable for me; I’ve learned a few definitions by looking up the words I don’t recognize. There’s nothing wrong with that, and I actually find it refreshing, and wish that were more common in our lives.) He’s definitely in the top couple percentile of intelligence, whether you like how he carries himself or not. But speaking of how he carries himself, he’s also incredibly open about being narcissistic (openly admits this, and also delves into his life as an addict- spiritually unfulfilled, and hungry for validation), makes jokes about that (calls himself out), and would tell you himself that he’s driven by his ego. In fact, this makes him a lot more down to earth than most celebrities or even likely many of the personalities that are drawn to or live in academia. (He’s not trying to be a Nobel prize winner, not sure how or why he’d be compared to one, but, okay)
      He uses entertainment to reach people who wouldn’t otherwise readily understand him; he uses word play to challenge himself creatively and intellectually; he speaks about issues of substance; he openly admits to character flaws and shortcomings; he actually does (clearly) have a mission to share a lot of genuinely deep and meaningful thoughts and reflections with the world at large. He’s actually pretty freaking great, for all of those reasons... maybe you haven’t noticed the subjects he covers.
      But, really, why should he be compared to a “real orator in his field?” What makes a “real” orator, and who says he’s trying to be one? Lastly...His field, technically, is comedy; I think if anyone in comedy could qualify as also being an orator, it could be him.

    • @90MysteriumFascinans
      @90MysteriumFascinans 5 лет назад +6

      TheGodEmperorofMankind hahaha. Sure, I’m invested. He’s putting content out there and having discussions which center around topics of real substance, spiritual importance. I really appreciate that he does this.
      Also........ “pretentious” is definitely not a fact, that’s an opinion, too. Peace out

      LSD opens the curtain for you to see. It's fleeting and also it can be shocking if you're not ready for it. When it shuts, you're left with this "what was that?" feeling that continues to haunt you.
      Through spiritual practice, one can open that curtain by choice and have it remain open. Russell Brand can express himself as he does for this reason. He's immersed himself into his spiritual practice and wants to tell everyone. If everyone would immerse themselves into their spiritual practice, the world would clean up very quickly. Namaste.

      VballGod 79 sure we would. Ive entered meditative states in yoga where the back of my eyes is cloaked in fire, hounds etc other time brighter happier sightings. I know im not alone in this too. If myself and those I know can reach states like this its highly likely those in the past who actually designed these methods of yoga had similar visions.
      Also, Dante is responcible for the modern version of Hell. Before the writing of Dantes Inferno and renecance paintings based on the epic poem Hell was hardly known as we know it today

    He seems nuttier than squirrel shit, but damn if Brand isn't spot on. The world is filled with people filling in blanks of their lives with 'vices'. Drugs, food, alcohol, sex, the internet, even work for the really fucked up. I won't call religion a 'vice' in the sense that when deployed properly, it CAN be that 'placebo' he describes for some people to find a stable path and purpose and life they never had. But like most things, when it is abused, it becomes one. Good stuff.

    • @vballgod7976

    • @siddharthsingh1994
      @siddharthsingh1994 7 лет назад +6

      VballGod 79 what have you accomplished purely by the virtue of being atheist that would guide you to this argument that religious folks do not face life.If you look at real intellectuals who have contributed heavily to the betterment of human society almost all of them had been spiritual, if not religious.If you cannot appreciate religion for its good then people are going to be uninterested about any thing you have say about it,of course apart from the already existing echo chamber where every person thinks they are too intelligent to actually read and learn from history not only about the horrors the religions brought but also the benefits it brought for the general populace.

    • @Jake007123
      @Jake007123 7 лет назад +6

      Being spiritual it's not the same as being religious and, at least in my experience, seems to have a trend to be quite the opposite. But I agree, there are a lot of religious people who face life and just use their religion to use as a second limb when they fall too short in their lives. If only they just used religion in that only way, I would even consider being a religious person.

    • @k-matsu

      Russell Brand has a tendency to come across as "over the top". As a result I worry that a lot of people may have missed what he was saying, and why it truly is a stinging slap in the face for "establishment leftists" like Bill Maher. What he is trying to point out is that a candidate like Clinton -- someone who is "antithetical to the basic interests of average Americans . . . but at least safe" is the exact tool that keeps the entrenched 1% in power. As such, she would actually be a WORSE candidate than Trump.
      With Trump, at least everyone has woken up to the fact that we have a problem. If Clinton was president, we would still have very much the same problems. Everything that Trump has TRIED to do has either failed completely, or is facing so much resistance that it can make little headway and will be reversed the second a less extreme rightwing lunatic is put into power. With Clinton, everyone would still be snoring and sleepwalking through their increasingly shitty life. You cannot fix a problem if you are sound asleep. First you have to wake up. Then you have to recognize how serious the problem truly is. And only THEN can you start doing something to fix it.
      I wont go so far as to call Maher a shill for the status quo oligarchy. He might be... Ive had my suspicions for years... but I cant prove that suspicion one way or the other. What I **CAN** say is that he is completely wrong in suggesting that progressives made a mistake by not voting for Clinton. Some progressives may be rethinking their decision but for me at least, I stll think that Trump was a better choice. In actual performance, the first 9 months of the Trump presidency has done wonders for political awareness in the US. Sure, the culture wars may be raging hotter than ever, but that is a sign that the comatose 66% are starting to wake up, and take sides. In my view, at least, that is a step in the right direction. It should go without saying that I -- like Brand -- view Trump as the most contemptible of fools, and possibly the worst major politician in US history. When people look in a mirror and tell themselves that they helped allow that guy to get into office, they must surely recognise what a terrible thing that says about themselves, and about their country. But like the Michael Jackson song says: "if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change".
      Until you take a good hard look at yourself in the mirror and admit the problems, you arent ever going to get better. A bad hangover is exactly what Americans deserve. This is no time to be arguing about what choices you made last night . . . . . its time to start cleaning up the mess and getting your head together once again.
