I’m not a fan of large format tile for shower floors. When it gets wet, it gets slippery. Some people try to say it doesn’t, but I have experienced it enough personally to think otherwise.
Been doing tile and stone over 20 years been installing schluter for half of that and never seen anyone make a mud bed with ditra mat I wouldn't trust. May work for a while but won't last long. Tile work looks good though. My only issue with the video would be the pan
Nice job, but why would anyone put the drain in the center where you stand? Who wants to stand on a cheese grater? I always put mine about 6-12" from the wall adjacent to the showerhead.
Nice install, still don’t fully understand how you got good slope from that being a flat floor with no recess prior and it didn’t look like you cut joists. Maybe I’ve just never seen that method before, need to bone up on some newer stuff I reckon.
The "brackets" are for sinking the subfloor that was cutout. Most contractors just sister the joists to create subfloor cuts that sink down to crown of floor joist. Point being, if you got 3/4" subfloor. And your drain is only a couple feet from perimeter. Dropping the subfloor in shower area allows for a minimal slope to be made to drain flange. And then you can opt for no curb. Most of these need glass enclosures, to prevent water from going everywhere outside the shower.
