One thing I love about Genichiro is that he's a symbol of how you improve throughout the game. Your first time it seems impossible, your second time it's a reasonable challenge, the third time he's a pushover. The best part is the cutscenes for each fight. In your first fight Sekiro has to feel for his sword in order to pull it out showing that he is unskilled and rusty at this point of the story. In the second fight he takes his time but doesn't struggle to pull out the sword. But in the third fight Sekiro just pulls out his sword quickly showing he's a true master at the end. Genichiro is such a quality boss for being able to mark your progression throughout the game through both gameplay and cutscenes

I actually hadn’t learned to use dodge I-frames for the entire game until the demon of hatred forced me to. Additionally, deflecting Isshin’s attacks felt so badass that it never felt grueling or grindy to me, whereas I spent a long time dying to the demon without having a clue how to survive long enough to defeat it

I haven’t played this game in a year or so but I still have all the muscle memory from the boss fights making them rather easy but still just as satisfying as beating them the first time. I still think it's ridiculous to say that Way of Tomoe is a seperate boss. Just because it's a different character doesn't mean he's his own boss fight, he's meant to be Phase 1 of Isshin's. He isn't designed to be a full boss, that's why he's only got the 1 health bar.
As a Souls example, we don't count King of the Storm as a separate boss from Nameless King, he's just Nameless King's phase 1.

I don’t know why my experience with the guardian ape was so different than other peoples but I didn’t have a problem deflecting him at all in the first phase. I didn’t run away from him except to heal and to avoid his terror attack. So basically it was just like the rest of the game. His grabs weren’t even that frustrating for me either. Every time I got hit by one, I felt like it was completely my fault and not the game being unfair.

The grab is pretty bullshit, specifically if you choose to dodge instead of jump it. The attack is designed to have you jump over it, but it's also often possible to dodge backwards against it. Problem is that jumping backwards only works if you already have some slight distance to him (IE: Too close and you're guaranteed to get hit, maybe unless your reaction speed is godly), making the attack seem inconsistently unavoidable.
Sure, they could learn to jump the attack instead, but once you've implanted backwards dodging into your muscle memory, you're extremely unlikely to try anything else out, and even if you do learn you're supposed to jump it, it's MUUUCH harder to unlearn back-dodging and how to jump it than it is just learn to jump it.
It is a pretty badly designed attack for how it encourages people to play incorrectly against it.

He was a samurai, but he would use every possible way to win and survive he could regardless of if it would traditionally be considered “honorable.” I like how he says after giving you the Ashina text that the primary tenet of the Ashina style is just to win, by any means necessary, and he embodies that so well by throwing everything but the kitchen sink at you in that final fight. Having fought demon of hatred as many times as I have, he's actually now high on my list of bosses that I feel confident that I can consistently beat first try. He may not have many deflectable attacks, but if you're directly underneath him, he's surprisingly not too bad. And closing the distance when he tries to flee is a lot safer if you have the fire umbrella prosthetic. I actually shockingly feel more confident in my ability to beat Demon of Hatred without dying than I do about Guardian Ape, oddly enough.

It didn’t work for me. So I decided to buckle down and play the boss like a man, I died so many times I had no money left, but I had memorized that old bastard so well that I deflected quite literally, every single one of his attacks, if he threw a thrust I always mikiri’d, and I’d instantly be able to tell what kind of perilous he was going to throw, I had entered a state of zen so great I only healed once during the entire 4 phase fight.

The second time around I took the time to learn the patterns and it became smoothness. I find the first phase the most erratic oddly enough. Right after the you knock the first bar hit him with the mortal blade a few times to build up posture and then pressure him. Hit him twice and get ready to parry, when he does the crazy charged up slashes stand your ground and get ready to parry. If you pressure him enough he’ll always give you a mikiri counter. If lighting reversal isn’t your thing leave some emblems for mist raven feathers and the last phase is a cakewalk. @Amonimus 5 лет назад +43

I think at some bosses I've died in 10% of times because the camera unlocks and I can't dodge out of an attack, 20% because the locked camera rotates and I dodge into an attack and 40% because the camera sinks into a wall and gets stuck.

    • @FreekinEkin2
      @FreekinEkin2 5 лет назад +12

Agreed. More than half of my deaths can be attributed to random unlocking. It's normally due to FromSoft's shitty camera not being able to handle vertical angles, and sometimes because of small rooms. One time, when I was about to defeat Divine Dragon on my first ever try, the camera inexplicably unlocked and I was one-shotted. I have no idea why. There is literally no excuse. In a game that produces so much adrenaline, and hence so much salt, the sense of having been cheated is brutal. FromSoft really should have worked on this.
Extra note: The Isshin boss fight became pretty unenjoyable because I could not see what unblockables he was doing, since he'd crouch into the grass for both the thrust and sweep. Punishing me for not being able to see something under the grass is pretty outrageous. This is somewhat avoidable if you coax him towards the busted bridge area. Gehrman had no such issue. This and Cuphead need to learn that obscuring the fight with a foreground/overlay is not a challenge. It is artificial difficulty and no fun.

I did the dragon’s return 3 years ago in my first playthrough, slogged and died so much from genichiro, father, guardian ape, both monks, and isshin with the strap. Bought the game back 2 months ago in my bday and i realized it now that the game’s not hard it’s just me. Did purification ending yesterday and surprisingly did super well despite suffering so much with the gauntlets: Inner genichiro & isshin. By the difficulty of the bosses i top isshin as top 1 for most challenging and demon of hatred as the hardest if you can’t doge and time ur strikes, genichiro’s a boss that u can’t run away because u will get punished but a fun boss the more you learn ( died by the bow more than the lightning at fp & gauntlet). Monke’s only hard if you panic, same with true monk they scary first glance. Great shinobi/owl father r just favorites of mine in the 2nd run, died so much in the first playthrough, only best solution for them both is to fight them in the middle and back off when necessary and never thrust for obv reasons.
Hate duo apes, end of story.

One prayer necklace and two Gourds isn't exactly how you're meant to fight her, and I didn't figure out how weak she is to dodgesteps, so I think I was there for three or four hours straight. On the plus side, it made me git real gud real early, and I didn't struggle with any bosses after her until Guardian Ape (and the duo Ape fight) which were the only real speed bumps until Owl Father. I think I died to Genichiro and Great Shinobi Owl once or twice each, which I'm pretty proud of.

Demon of Hatred is the hardest boss, because as you said: It’s a survival, not a „I completely obliterated him.“
By now I can confidently say that I can beat Demon of Hatred every single time, but until I reached that point I‘d say I could defeat SS Isshin blindfolded. Because he makes you use the deflect mechanic, which automatically makes him 10x easier. He only has 1 combo that can really f|uck you up, which is his 2 sword strikes followed by the 3 vertical slash spear strikes, followed by a thrust. That move killed me 6 times until I finally grasped it.
DoH on the other hand just makes you regret your life choices if you don’t utilize Suzaku‘s Umbrella and the Malcontent‘s Ring.

For me Bloodborne has the lowest boss quality over all From Software games, but the Sekiro Bosses are really good

OVERLOAD25 I dunno if this is an unpopular opinion but I think DS3 has the most consistent boss quality in Soulsborne.

I had a harder time with the Demon of Hatred than with Ishiin but the fight with Ishiin was more interesting

The uneven terrain and half second unlockable along with projectiles.... just terrible. Winning that shit is just a matter of rng to me

@@timothywillox8564 almost every boss you can beat if you just wait and bait for cheap pokes but demon of hatred had so much HP it wasn't worth the trouble and with projectiles and such it wasn't really viable to wait and stay back. Next time I fight him I'll find a cheese strategy because I couldn't find any "safe" patient ways to kill him

Kuni - Kimina the cheese for demon of hatred is harder the fight itself

Sword saint's first phase can be easily mastered but his second phase attacks are much more harder to anticipate because the grass hides what he's doing especially when he uses his gun, you can only tell by the gun's sound
