Was excited to create this video for you to answer some of your questions about looking good on camera! There's so many more tips and tricks Ive learned but didn't want to overwhelm you, baby steps.

I'm a professional photographer and for everyone who finds this video helpful and necessary, I too have some tips for you: If you find that every photo you take is bad, it's probably because of the reasons below. Bear in mind these are tips for instagram photography mostly, and not - for example - concept fashion photography:
1. poor/bad-harsh lighting. Now pay attention to this. Poor lighting and bad lighting are two different things. When you have poor/low lighting, the camera of your phone uses more iso (=light sensitivity) which might give a grainy feel to your image as well as unsaturated colors and a bleh tone in general. So, make sure you take the photos when there's still plenty of sun/light during the day and in places where the light can bounce of on you.
Bad and or harsh lighting is when the light source hits your face/body in weird places. Examples of bad lighting are: Lighting from under the chin or from even a point below that or the contrary, when the light source is right above your face. Harsh lighting is also very very unphotogenic unless you know how to work with it. Harsh lighting is the light from the sun for example. So if you're posing at 12 o clock in the morning under the sun, you might think "oh yay plenty of light" but what you're doing is 1. squinting your eyes thus creating more expression lines 2. creating harsh shadows on some parts of the face 3. showing off EVERY little flaw you might have on your skin, because harsh light does that.
2. wide angle lens - this applies to selfies mostly: our phone cameras have wide angle lenses so that they can fit us up to shoulder length when f.e taking selfies. So, wide angle lenses, especially those of our phones, distort things. They make our noses look a bit bigger and our faces look a bit rounder/egg-like, and even though this distortion is barely noticeable, it's all it takes to make our whole face look weird. how to fix that? use a selfie stick or take a selfie with the phone as far away from your face as possible. now, as with everything on this planet, this might work for some people and not for other. practise.
3. (going the extra mile) wrong makeup/clothes This may sound obvious and simple but some makeup looks and clothes just aren't photogenic, it's not just people. For example a beautiful warm tone eyeliner look will probably look better on most people than let's say a green smokey look. Also, a thinner eyeliner will work for and compliment most people instead of a very thick liner. Also, some clothes just don't sit good on the body. By this time and age, I bet you've all found out what works for your bodies, but if you want to take good photos you have to also find what works for your body plus your photos, which are two different things. It's true, some outfits just take extra work to look good in photos.
4. posing (body and face) and placement of the camera = angle as Valeria mentioned in the video, there are certain poses that work better than others and there are also parts of your face that photograph better. When it comes to angle, I bet most of you know that if you are short, you might want to place the camera a bit lower than the middle of your body - meaning if I'm standing in front of you with the phone, I should have the phone lower than the mental line that connects your middle part of the body to my middle part of the body.(assuming we're of similar height) Does that make any sense? Also I know how most people seem to think that placing the phone above your head makes for a better selfie but if you have a longer nose for example that won't work for you. You might want to place the phone at nose height and then take the selfie.
How can I take advantage of the sunlight for my photos?
The light looks beautiful when it's coming through a window or when it's behind your back-if you're outside. Also, places where there are surfaces for the light to bounce of. F.example a spot where there are many white/light grey walls or grey pavement (notice how I don't say white pavement, because if it's white it will bounce of a lot of light under you and might make your face and clothes look weird)
When is it a good time for shooting with direct sunlight? The golden hours, which are two hours before sunset and two hours after sunrise.
I could go on, but this is already too long as it is. I hope I helped at least one person!
Oh and one final tip: Natural lighting is often more compimenting than lightbuld lighting.

Great tips ! :) Also, super important, PRACTICE. I used to model as a hobby, and practicing is so important. When I stopped for a few months, or one year or two, I completely forgot my angles and started looking pretty unsatisfying on pictures :D

6:45 also a tip for this situation, you dont have to use timer if you are taking photos of yourself. Just place your phone where you want it, film a video and pose!! Then rewatch it and screenshot your poses.I discovered this in a yt video and i use it and love it. Hope this helps 🙂

When I ask people to take photos for me, it turns out awful 9/10 of the time 😩😩 I literally have to set up the phone and angle and tell them to just press the button, yet somehow people STILL manage to change the angle and it's just disrespect 😂😅😭
Ah, I do the same thing - I put the phone in the exact spot/position of how I want the picture taken and then whoever takes the photo for me I tell them not to move the phone and take the photo exactly like that! :D
Most people really don't know how to take a photo, so it's best to tell/show them unless one likes to have half of the picture to be of the ground XD

First tip : Don't look in the mirror alot. You look the opposite of what you see in the mirror in the camera. Get used to camera , not mirror.

When i used to take a lot of pictures of myself and tiktoks i really liked them but then i stopped and when i started doing tiktok again and i was watching my tiktok i was like WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT same goes for photos on the other hand my youngest sister who wasn't really photogenic { dont get me wrong i love her soo much} she started doing tiktoks and after sometime she bacme literally photogenic af and im so happy for her♡♡
