We had seen Nels Cline perform live with his mates in Wilco a handful of times before we filmed this session with him and the rest of The Nels Cline Singers. We knew it would be an experience to film with someone of his caliber. It was more of an observation than a documentation by us in the moment.
The Nels Cline Singers played us two songs that evening at Johnny Brenda's in Philadelphia. The first being this eight minute journey, "Divining".

WOW...this is awesome...!!!
amazing : )
I would love to see Nels and Kevin Breit play together....
Not much of a documentary if you don’t list the musicians
Great sound
Is one of the drummers Ciro Baptista?
yes, its him!
With Scott Amendola on the drums, and electronics
Is Trevor Dunn on the bass?
Yes, he is.
Duuuuuuuuuuude
Trevor Dunn is the best.
Is this supposed to be out of tune for any reason??
Wonder what's caused poor old Nels to degenerate into playing background music for fast food family restaurants. Maybe spending too much time with Wilco?
Betcha didn't even like the actual singing from the Singers. Seriously, Nels encompasses musical universes - some of them do not move me, like his occasional thrash / noise stuff. And I was surprised when he signed on as hired guitarslinger with that lame band Wilco, but Tweedy, wisely, just lets Nels do his thing, or rather one of his many things. If Nels plays something personally fulfilling, who the hell am I to discount it out-of-hand? So yes, I do try to catch Wilco in the occasional live TV performance, even if it's only to catch a flash of Nels.
What 'fast food family restaurants' are you going to? Stupid comment.
pibroch Jealous.
Well I'd eat there
