Very nice! I have a good supply of tire weights, and have played around with the screens. That doesn't work too well. This is fantastic! Winter project. Thanks!

Dang... I was really interested in how the mechanism for making the drops was fabricated. The nozzle ? Duration of fall before quench, how to change shot sizes ? Sorting or filtering to remove variants ? Screen size ? Or many at a time ?
Thanks for sharing your work. It’s getting harder to find shot, and prices are only increasing. Also big move on to eliminate lead so alternative bismuth/tungsten or some non toxic alternative, is what’s needed.. also in North America rifles zones for hunting are getting restricted, so good quality shotgun in .12 and .20 gauge slugs are now increased use and demand. A store bought good slug with the latest and greatest packaging with bolts of lightning on the box are about 5$ each... should be able to fabricate for about 75cents. 2022 prices. If you only shoot 20 a season no big issue, but if you have a group and every body practices, and carries 10 for the season it’s easily worth looking at a setup like you have.

Is there a certain grade or composition of lead that you have to use? Does this harden it to people's picky standards? And where's the best place to get lead or scrap lead that you've come across? Fantastic video, and creation my friend! Oh... and wildly approximate total cost, if you were to buy everything? Thanks in advance, apologies in advance if you've already answered these in other videos or comments. Again great little device you made there. Take care, and thanks for taking the time to post this for everyone. I'm sure we all agree that we're grateful for people like you putting in the leg work for us to copy and or improve the design.

Hi Justin, why thanks for your comments. have you seen my leadshot maker 3 video there i show how I make
my alloy which is 3% Antimony comparable to factory shot in hardness. Try scrap yards, ask any plumbers you might know, builders etc. The complete build cost me about £200 that does nt include my time with my foundary making the ladle and wireing up the controllers etc. But it has well and truly paid for itself
      all the best

Nice bro. I should have kept my foundary. Traded for another rifle. lols.
Hey, you have probably thought of this, but what about something smaller/simpler. Like, making just the drip nozzle that fits onto the spout of the Lee? Or, what is it that I'm missing that this wouldn't work.. ?

Hi. The problem with that is the lead pressure or weight of lead if you like would be too great
resulting in the lead pissing out, also topping up the pot each time it was to get low would chill the
remaining molten lead and stop the flow altogether . The idea of the lee pot or any reservoir really is
to guarantee supply of lead. Also cuts down on the amount of work the ladle element has to do.
A reservoir of some sort at the end of the day gives much more control.
Good idea in a lot of respects though
      cheers

Yes.. weight.. makes sense. Was kinda thinking that. Probably also why your cast is really wide, instead of being a small ramp-down into one drip nozzle.

My Lee pot drips anyway, LOL. How hard would it be to set the rate that your upper pot drips lead into the shot maker?

Curious why you drop the shot onto the ledge before it enters the coolant? Does dripping straight into the coolant not give a uniform roundness? Perhaps lowering the tank so it slightly air cooled prior to entering?

Traditionally shot was dropped from a tower of at least 100 foot high as the molten droplets of lead take 3 seconds or more to solidify before they dropped into water tanks therefore dropping directly into the coolant from a short distance would result in flat disc like shot and would be no good. The ramp inparts the round shape to the molten balls of lead and eases them into the coolant.
      Thanks for your interest

How do you make the drippers to form the lead shot?

    • @woodsman2433

Drippers are machined from 12mm round stainless steel bar stock
