I can’t thank you enough for excellent directions for removing the door. I had removed the door previously with instructions from elsewhere and had the one hinge at the 90 degree angle you showed - by the time I got the oven cleaned and did not find your directions until later when my husband came home the light bulb had burned out. We just put the door on when i found your excellent video because we did not have a bulb to replace it with. Finally we got the bulb replaced and had such an easy time taking the door and putting it back on. It is so nice now to see in my oven without a flashlight. It took less than 10 minutes to remove the door, replace the light bulb and reinstall the door. I can’t thank you enough.

The WD40 trick worked for me. Couldn't budge the cover even with grip gloves on, but the cover hadn't been removed since I bought the cooker 15 yrs ago. I heated the oven for 20 mins, left it to cool slightly and used the WD40. I left it on for 20 - 25 mins. Was still a bit stuck for about 5 secs then it just started turning. Thanks for the video and the comments - meant I got my cooker fixed... Much appreciated. 😀

Thank you! I used rubber gloves, PB Blaster, heated the oven, and finally got the glass globe loose with a pipe wrench. Afterwards, I stuffed a napkin in the light socket and cleaned the globe and the aluminum globe socket with oven cleaner. In retrospect, I would use oven cleaner on the aluminum globe socket instead of PB Blaster. Thanks again and may God bless you and your family.

I have a Maytag range so I guess this seems to be an issue with these Whirlpool manufactured bulb covers. My family has been without an oven light on our whirlpool Accu-Bake model for more than 3 years, I tried way back when it went out to remove this cover thinking it was a special type of bulb, after seeing your how to presentation I was able to break the cover loose. I have a large 1/2" drive socket strap filter wrench I use to remove oil filters and fuel filters on large diesel engines,. ; I was skeptical at the possibility it would work because the cloth band was a full 2 inches wide. worked very nicely, however . .. could not grip this cover enough to grab otherwise. I do suggest once you have this cover off you repeat tightening and loosening this glass cover several times to work in some freedom to add ease of removal ..😀

We used a hose clamp, and tightened it around the glass cover to grasp the glass more easily. A vise grip plier was clamped to the hose clamp and used to unscrew the cover. A quick tug was all it took to loosen the cover.

Thank you! I think the glass cover just bakes itself to the metal. I tried a rubber pad but it did not work. A rubber glove would have done the job, however, I didn’t have one. A jug opener does a good job pretty well too. One word of advice, don’t tighten the cover back too tight.

There’s a sharing that it was due to hardened grease in the seams of glass and mounting on oven.

I was struggling as well, I had just changed some ceramic cartridges in a tap using a plumbers wrench. I found that the jaws of the wrench would fit over the light. I did not use any pressure to squeeze on the glass but gently twisted the jaws against the raised sections of the glass dome and this freed the seized dome very quickly.

I just did this myself. The trick is to heat the oven up to 170-200 degrees for an hour or so first (I turned it on and then went to the store to buy replacement bulb). That causes the aluminum housing for the glass to expand, making it easier to unscrew the glass cover by hand. No need to use special tools or lubricants.

I couldnt get mine off and then realized it looks similar to an oil filter!
Grab a 76mm oil filter socket cup, stuff one of those grippy jar lid openers in it, stick it on the bulb cover and get your 3/8 extension and ratchet and turn while applying light pressure.
    It came off immediately.
*pay attention to the filter socket youre using as it may protrude too far and hit the glass cover.

A good way of getting the glass cover off, warm the oven to 200 C and let cool to about 50.
Use gloves with anti slip, turn anti clock wise. If not successful with gloves use that tool as showed or use pliers with tape wound over the tips. Warming it helps soften the grease . It worked for me while everything ells failed.

Thanks for uploading this video. I was worried about forcing it, but turns out that's all it needed. God whirlpool makes crappy appliances.

i used a small amount of WD-40 and it came undone easy after a few minutes, before this it was days of trying to free it

    I can't
believe what i did and it came off easily. Wd-40 just a bit wiped on the bulb...wait 10 minutes and a very easy twist....soooo hard at first...

Hey Barbara, a few people have mentioned this. Only thing I would be concerned about is the heat and wd-40... have you had any issues since you have done this?

Can anyone suggest a way to remove a glass bulb cover. I have used a removal tool, wd40, clamps, hand and heated the oven and nothing is moving it. Suggestion please other than using a hammer

Unplug or use circuit breaker switch to cut power. Guess it is designed to expand/lock. (I was told that and didn’t believe them). Once unplugged it came off with minimum effort. But the glass on bulb was separated from screw in part 🤨 now I need to find a video on that.😂

Interesting. Thanks for the info! That is too bad that the bulb broke, make sure you definitely turn the power off when you attempt to take that out! Thanks for watching!

The covers are stuck because of cook on grease. Spray it down with oven cleaner, and take door off hinges to get inside better so don't break the door.
