I saw Black Angels and Black Mountain on Black Friday. One of the best shows I have ever attended. Their singer Alex is one of the nicest guys. He came and sat in the crowd for the Black Mountain set to show his respect for the following band.
You get an explosion of feedback, harmonics, and fuzz that morph into a kaleidoscope of pure uncontrolled musical euphoria! My quest for fuzz got me into building kits and circuits from scratch. It's a heck of a journey!
so ive been learning guitar lately, and ive been learning alot. the riff he plays at 3:38 was so good the first time i heard it, so ive been watching him play it a few times over and im learning the chords and proper finger placement and, im able to make the same sound too! i can play it anytime i want now! mind you, minus the awesome pedals n all but, its progress! ive always wanted to learn black angels music and style. i realize how minuscule it is but, its because of the black angels that i even pick up the guitar! i thank these guys for all that they do.
This is awesome! Seriously! I don’t know how old you are, but it’s never too late to learn music, and you may have just discovered a lifelong passion/love/obsession/spiritual journey. Whatever spiritual journey means to you. I’m kind of a hard science guy, so spiritual journey just means anything that touches the core, or tends to that abstract notion of “the soul,“ anyway, I talk too fucking much. Keep going! Keep playing! Above all, be patient and enjoy the process.
The TTE preamp is magic. Fulltone should do it standalone. I borrowed a TTE from a friend for a long time, when I returned it I didn't miss the echo so much, but that preamp is 💋👌.
You know kids, you're looking at one of the greats in rock 'n roll. We must keep rock alive and embrace the reverb. So go! Go on now, children, set yourself free! Damnit, I hate editing my posts!
So much depends on the pickups; find the Analogman Peppermint ONLY is great with the low output Strat single coils. The Gretsch and Rickenbacker types are down there in a good range as well. I thought the Fuzzrite was what the Pmint was based on? They aren't really that close, the latter only buzzy if you crank the internal bias,- it's "own thing". Finding that 10" speakers are really good to mix with "12's,- gives a lot of Fuzzes and vintage drives a little more push and percussive snap. A million little discoveries to be made if you just keep trying everything you can get your hands on.Watching the Black Angels play is like performance art; part Rock, part Ambient.Great stuff.
@@CaptainWampum I’ve actually chased that Strawberry Alarm clock tone to no end. it’s probably one of my favorite Fuzz tones. I agree the Analogman is a “buzzier fuzz face” I have a vintage 1st edition Vox Tonebender like Ed King but a had a custom made FZ-1 made that works like a charm, not much sustain but roll the neck pickup tone back and my god that was a euphoria I finally achieved!
The Black Angels' Christian Bland should be the full name of the band. Also yeah the tape echo pre-amp was Jimmy Page and basically anyone else who wants to push the front end of an amp. I use a boost pedal but the real thing is nasty I love it.
Awesome, so they going to get around to writing any good songs then? Oooh, cold RUclips comment...sorry, couldn't resist. LOVE their tones but find them so dull as a band!
@@gcb4799 It was...sorry mate, that was a heartless and pointless post, must have been a no-coffee morning. Have since made up for my sins and re-educated my ear...got all your records now :) My bad, my loss, now remedied. Keep on keeping on! Cheers
@@gcb4799 Hi! Love that super fuzzer based on the Tone Bender. Do you have a company name for that pedal ? trying to find on Reverb. That switch that makes it dark is amazeballs. Love y’all! Your music/shows are awesome! Thank U!
This dude has the worst tone since I was 12 in the garage with my drummer friend. Way too much reverb. Ridiculous amount of feedback that is just over the top unnecessary. If he would dial it back a bit on those pedals he could probably do a lot better. I've listened to some of their music and he's a damn good guitar player.
Tone is subjective in my opinion. I for one like what he is doing and the sound he gets. Pair his guitar playing with the rest of the band and it is magical!
@@SonicRave1 I totally agree with you tone is subjective to each person's ears. Good tone is in the "ear" of the beholder. What one person might love another person might hate. And that's okay,I see nothing wrong with that because everyone is entitled to their opinion as to what they like and what they don't like.that's what's great about music because if you don't like something you just listen to something else that you do. But I can totally relate to your opinion and I can honestly say I agree with most of your opinion (I just disagree with the part of the band having a good sound, but like I said it's all in the ear of the beholder so more power to you man no problems here) ✌️🤩✌️
For guys that make such dark music, they're pretty happy and chill.

Nice to see The Black Angels over here!
I watched him explain his board before and that's what kicked off my obsession with pedals. I just want to hang and nerd out with him about pedals
The Rig Rundown Vid?
I like how giddy he gets when he plays the guitar with the fuzz on.
Eli C All you need is fuzz! + some delay, chorus and reverb...
@@HenritheHorse and a wah!!

Good to see Crispin Glover is doing well.
Curtis Burns hahaha hahah
Dayum. His enthusiasm is infectious - I want a fuzz pedal too now.
You *need* one.... You need all...

Black Angels guitar sound i a lot a fun to play. And it really start to be addictive when you play it loud in a band. Can't get enough of it ! Enjoy !

This guy rules! Look how happy he is :) that fuzz sounded like baby Godzilla
Omg the pedal from his buddy in LA is pure savagery love it
wait so.. does he have a fuzz pedal?
I think he prefers transparent overdrives
No that is a vintage tubescreamer
😂
Humm very hot Christian Bland :o I love this musician (and Stephanie Bailey) and it's my favourite band
"Get your damned hands off my fuzz, Biff!"
Thomas Z. McCormick damn I can’t unsee this
I laughed out loud

J Howell it’s based on the 60’s Maestro Echoplex Ep-2. Nothing beats the real thing
Chase Tone Secret Preamp is nice, but not tube based. I have wished for a tube version of the Pre-Amp but haven’t found anyone building one.
Cool dude, interesting tone
Fuzz is my favorite effect. This vid is candy
Crazy vato 😎
I thought T-Rex was going to release the Binson EchoRec clone they created, but I don't know what happened.
they will eventually, but all the prototypes they made would be to expensive to produce
You just can't really go wrong with fuzz & Echo.
I want to add Vibe to that list ;)
A beautiful thing. For me, fuzz, tremolo and echo is the holy trinity (obviously drenched in reverb lol).

I don't know the black angles music. But I really. Like his tone. And the way he goes about getting it. Fuzz+echo=awesome
I do like the noise they make
Good band
Proud they're from Texas
Riff at the beginning is Carve the 5 by Acid King. Commenting because it took me a while to figure it out :)
He is a fuzz connoisseur
Loooove this dood
reverberation Master
3:38 that's so pretty wtf
I really wanna meet this guy. He seems like a really down to Earth dude.
The Police Potent Pairings Please !!
By adorning Beatle boots, coupled with a cat crew neck, you actually pronounced silicone properly as “silicon”
Yep, Bland is so fucking crazy and that's why I love him
Rad!
he looks like the guy from the kinks
wow...James bay's father is a bad-ass rocker... Cool! :-D
James Bay wishes he was 1/4 as cool as Christian.
Stephen Hawking's Football Boots I just pointed out their similar looks.
Thought he was going to play the Black Grease riff at the beginning there
KC Katz for the win.

A bit more fuzz?
Anyone know what chords he was playing at the end?
E Am C E
All I hear is feedback.
and thats a good thing
Mark Lugg what’s wrong with that?
Yeah...I fucking know the song "Incense and Peppermints" thank you. You kids crack me up sometimes.
