    Hi everyone. I wanted to comment again about the rewards Moby receives. It doesn't matter what the reward is, as long as the bird thinks it is rewarding. The training is why Moby responds like he does.... NOT because there is a "best" reward. If the bird likes what you offer... it is a reward. Moby is given pellets, seeds, broken crackers, cut up fruit, etc. All are rewards to him.

      @@snipeschais493 I would NEVER consider it a waste of my life when it comes to caring for my Orange Winged Amazon Parrot. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to do so. However, Amazons are a big responsibility but the reward is immeasurable. They require lots of love and attention and those who just want to get one because they look cute usually wind up giving away their bird. Think what it would be like having a 2 year old child that will be 2 forever and that'll give you an idea of what it's like to care for an Amazon parrot. They're highly intelligent and inquisitive. Their mental capacity is similar to that of a 2 year old child.

    The best way to answer is to ask you a question. Would you keep going to your job if your boss quit paying you?
    He would still say all these phrases on his own for fun, but he would stop responding to the cues if he isn't positively reinforced for doing so. Make sense? Hope you enjoyed Moby!

    Hi, There is no "magic" reward, or "best" reward to use. A reward only need be something the bird likes. The vast majority of Moby's rewards are his pelleted diet.

    @Mo5664 Having any kind of large parrot is a BIG responsibility and you need to do lots of research before purchasing one. Too many parrots are bought and, after the owner discovers just how much care and attention they require, end up being abused or neglected. They are loud. They are messy. They NEED positive interaction with their owner several hours a day. Not all parrots talk. They can live up to at least 70 years. They need a responsible owner. Think before you buy one.

    Hi Matt, My friends parents are unable to keep Tacos, she is a 29 yr old Yellow Naped Amazon. I am getting my family prepared for the new addition. I have had a cockatoo before, many years ago. I love birds and I'm up for the challenge. What are the precautions with getting Tacos adjusted to my home. I'm afraid she won't adjust because of her age, and she desperately needs a new cage. How do you think she will do? Kim p.s. We have a dog, teenage children and two cats.

  • @mattedmonds7830
    @mattedmonds7830  13 лет назад

    @badishh No. Only because "what" the treat is, is irrelevant as to whether or not he responds. Each reward is different and him not knowing what is next is part of the training.

    My first exotic was a Yellow Nape. His name was Fibber. I got him when he was 6 months old. He died from a heart attack because I didn't know how to feed him. I fed him so much seed everyday. And he loved it! So much so that he would scream when I finally learned he was being over fed, and tried to change his diet. I had him for 25 years, he could have lived twice that long...I miss him so much and can't impress how much you need to control their diets!! I miss you Fibber!! Love you so much!!!

      +Dhannie Rampersaud I'll tell you what mine is crazy about.These fruity gummy things made by Kaytee. One is a round jar called Fiesta "Papaya, Peanuts & Mango Treat". The other one is a small bag named Fiesta "Healthy Toppings" (these chunks are much smaller and in multiple colors). I buy those jars like 5 at a time because they're sometimes sold out and he eats it daily... often taking sips of water to soften them up, I guess. They are both sold at Petco and Petsmart, though they may not always be in stock.

    Talking or mimicing sounds is a good sign. Biting means he doesn't like what you are doing or doesn't trust you enough for you to be doing what you are doing.... so build trust by watching his body language and DON'T do things he doesn't like. Make friends by doing things HE likes and not things you THINK he should like.

    Have a bowl of treats in a bowl near (but not within sight of the bird) and every time she says something..... immediately say "good!!!" and go give the bird a treat. If you are good at rewarding her, she'll understand that talking brings her favorite treat and she'll talk more. Good luck!
