Groucho was easily the winner. Very clear and easy to understand. The fact that he knew seven songs is incredible. I would love to have heard some of the other songs.
I was just waiting for one of these parrots to bite the heck out of Leno's constantly waving hands! He was annoying ME, and he wasn't even doing it in MY face!
Barbara, you handled Jay's pervy behavior really well. He didn't touch the other participants, but his hands were all over you from the start. Let's hope future generations of Innocents don't have to deal with such smut.
Does he make me look good? Maybe...but I think what he really does is help people see how amazing parrots are. Which I think is an important goal. Helping people love parrots is the first step in getting them to care about their welfare and status in the wild.
I saw Poncho on Johnny Carson years earlier when he was 12 years old. I was hoping to hear his age here. Jay Leno wouldn't shut up long enough for the trainer to say.
This video clip is from 2000 when I was an employee of the company mentioned. I was one of several trainers who worked with groucho on a daily basis doing conservation education presentations primarily in zoos. So nope....he was not borrowed : ) I am not sure I understand the comment about being paid....we were not paid for the appearance.
Barbara: I was hoping to access your web site, but it wouldn't go through for me.---I had a teacher, in North Dakota 1958, named Heidenreich, and wondered how common that name is. She eventually married and moved to, Maine I think. I don't have more information than that. ---It was a joy to see your name in this amazing clip!
I use to take my blue front in the shower with me..he LOVED it!!! It cuts down on the smell also..If you are not able to handle him yet they have shower perches with suction cups..just transfer him that way...or even a spray bottle thats never had anything in it would work too.
It is unfortunate that, when the microphone is turned on for Ms. Heidenreich, at about 6:40-something of the clip, there is an annoying intermittent rumble due presumably to some kind of electrical interference, from about 6:59 on. I tried cleaning it up by extracting the audio, and using Sound Forge Pro's cleaning tools, as well as another program, but I haven't been able to get rid of it. Is there a master copy of the program available, one with multiple audio channels, one of which might be cleaner, or was the problem completely due to the microphone connection, and is therefore present on all channels (if there were more than one)?
+George Butel Thanks for trying. I do appreciate that. The copy I had came from one of the trainers who had it on VHS taped off of the TV. It is that old. I had it converted to digital a looooong time ago. I am afraid The VHS copy is where the audio issues originated. Wish I had a better version, but I am afraid I don't. I am sure NBC has it archived somewhere :) It was July of 2000.
Barbara, Do you still have contact with Groucho? I went to see him at Flights of Wonder October 2015 but missed his show that day. I plan to return late March 2017 to see him at Animal Kingdom Flights of Wonder.
I am happy to respond to your post. Let me see if I can clarify some things that are not explained in the test for the video. I do have birds of my own. One I have had for over 20 years and I love them all dearly. Many of them can be seen in my materials about training parrots.
Stephen Collins Foster (July 4, 1826 - January 13, 1864), known as the "father of American music" lololol! Jay is basically saying what old music is this bird gonna sing ahahahhahaha hilarious!
All Amazon Parrots. No surprise. I have been around many kinds of parrots and none are as happy to sing as any variety of Amazon. Their name tells you where they come from.
Big fan of all of you and your birds. You've inspired me to work with Barbosa, my Miligold Macaw, to see if he can sing anything. Being a Macaw, he isn't a huge talker, but he doesn't whistle either, so perhaps he could learn a tune or two! Maybe a little Lady Gaga?!
that first trainer should know what song the bird is actually singing... the song isn't "about a day" it's "oh what a beautiful morning" from the musical Oklahoma
Whoa!!!! Jay, keep your hands off the women, you creep!! Very well done, trainers! Especially in such a crazy setting, with lights, applause, etc.! Kudos!!
Wow, that's totally inappropriate for Jay to put his hands on her waist like that. As far as the so called contest, if Leno would just stop talking to the trainers, trying to get in a few laughs for his ego, the birds attention would be fully on their trainers. But, Jay, who is also a "comedian" was just doing what talk show hosts do...talk talk talk. It does get annoying when we clicked on this video to see the birds...instead, most of the time its the banter between the trainers and "gotta always be the center of attention" Leno. Disappointing at best. But, the birds are beautiful and amazing! I miss my Macaw. Thank you for taking time to show us this video. I don't dislike Leno, but I really wanted to hear the birds talk and sing longer. Okay, now I'm talking too much LOL

The way these birds didn't get upset with all of Leno's hand waving and moving around was an art in itself.

groucho did a great job!!
THANKS TO LADY BARBARA FOR TEACHING THE BIRD HOW TO SING AND THAT"S FUN BUT HARD WORK TO DO THAT
Oh what a beautiful day, when parrots 🦜 sing. How Jay felt it's OK to put his 🐾 paws on her waist
hilarious - i love the body language when he sings!!!
What a great display of talent! Our Oliver is a great talker but we haven't taught him any songs. Maybe we'll work on that.
Very cool, looks like a very happy bird with an awesome personality!
Very clever Birds.
Oh my god, that was perfect, I love it.
Such a beautiful voice 💕

Barbara, you handled Jay's pervy behavior really well. He didn't touch the other participants, but his hands were all over you from the start. Let's hope future generations of Innocents don't have to deal with such smut.
Thankfully this is 12 years old but man is he cringy and gross.
Does he make me look good? Maybe...but I think what he really does is help people see how amazing parrots are. Which I think is an important goal. Helping people love parrots is the first step in getting them to care about their welfare and status in the wild.
The 2nd parrot that came out sounds like the same one that Carson had on a number of years ago.
Thankyou Jay!...this put smile on my face.
the second bird is soo funny nd cute :)
I saw Poncho on Johnny Carson years earlier when he was 12 years old. I was hoping to hear his age here. Jay Leno wouldn't shut up long enough for the trainer to say.
😆 all the bird should have go home with something ,too cute.
Wonderful!

@XxiwuvyouxX Yes it is. I worked at that show for 5 years. This appearance on leno was during that time.

Groucho has a lot of personality
my Casper, a female Congo African Grey sings "whiskey in the jar" the Metallica version. She is a huge James Hetfeld fan
I would love to hear that got any clips of casper singing?
I'm no parrot but a big fan of Metallica.
👍
better than most on star search or whatever talent show...this is more interesting
😄❤❤❤ I heart for each (bird).
I saw Poncho in San Diego and I have a cassette of him singing Bali High. He's great!
I love how Groucho scrutinizes the trophy as it’s brought over...He’s excited but 😎 :”oh this is quite nice, thank you ever so...🦜🦖🦜🦖🦜🦖🍀🍀🍀❣️😳🥰😘

No I do not. I stopped working for that company in 2002. But I believe the bird is still there.

totally! Tough to smile and yet try to control the host.
Credit goes to the trainer
The microphone made all the difference.

Pancho, the second one, had been on with Johnny Carson years earlier.
The Amazon must be amazing.
