Making plays mostly only on 3rd and 4th down, overcoming crowd noise, getting lucky with a missed INT, getting pushed back by a BS penalty… even making the defense pay for dropping 8 into coverage. Well deserved in the end
duke players and fans were talking mad shit to ND all week, in the end after an ND victory, ND displayed sportsmanship when Sam Hartman stopped his post game interview to check on Leonard.
Hey we played good. This was a close game. There were several moments on that drive where Notre Dame could have turned the ball over. We have a good team and we played hard. We ain’t a cup cake team. We still have a shot at Florida St.
@@JimneyCriquet Believing in sportsmanship and respecting your opponent is the opposite of soft. Being soft is trashing others because you have no respect for yourself instead of celebrating your own success.
It’s a fine concept but it’s really a defense on to itself. With only 20 hours a week I just don’t think college players understand how to play the defense. So I wish coaches would stop calling it. Because “building a wall at the sticks” seems like a good idea. But the kids wander and drift in the zones, and huge gaps are left wide open in your secondary l
As a ND fan it’s easy to second guess but dropping 8 on 4th down when the line was having problems holding up vs the blitz. Great game and feel bad for Riley
That’s 2 weeks in a row dropping 8 causes problems. The kids clearly do not practice much drop 8, they get lost in their zones, end up covering grass and not people. Then leave huge gaps in the defense. IMO play your base defense and rush 4, maybe 5. That’s it.
What an absolutely heartbreaking loss for Duke - would've been nice for ND to have done us a favor and beaten Ohio State last week. The Irish lost a game they shouldn't have last week and won a game they shouldn't have tonight.
One thing that pisses me off about some of these underdog schools losing is them changing their play style late in the game. Anytime that Hartman was pressured he would throw an almost-interception or an incompletion, and you just stop doing that on 4th and 16 with the game on the line? Every competent coach in the country knows that prevent defense is a terrible idea unless the last play has to be a Hail Mary, especially when you can just do what you did for the first 3 downs and win the game. It's hard to feel proud of Duke for competing against ND when they lose like this. Disappointing is a heavy understatement, and I feel like this game is going to define the rest of their season like last year when Syracuse started 6-0, lost to Clemson, and finished the season 7-6.
IT's called game flow dude Also, late in the game, defenses are gassed and the offense is in 4th down territory if they're losing. This is not complex stuff lol
Even as a Notre Dame fan, I can't help but feel sad about this win. Leonard played his ass off in that game, and his poor mother had to watch that... That's rough. You played some damn good football out there, Duke.
Ok, but Notre Dame's QB had the exact same thing happen last week. Put them ahead in a close game with 14 points, the defense had 3rd and 19 or 4th and 16, they get a miracle play and then run the ball in for the win. He was clutch in both games and the defense blew one and saved one.
Herbstreit almost sounded depressed when ND took the lead. Still a great road win against a ranked opponent despite the multiple injuries and poor officiating.
As a ND fan it’s soooo frustrating how we allow teams to just hang around. This game should’ve been 28-0 early. The OSU game was the same way. Up 10-0 with multiple red zone trips and we kept giving OSU life. The great teams know how to go for the jugular. ND always let’s teams hang around.
Right before Note Dame converted on the 4th and 16, the announcers says that what I love about Duke they are not afraid to blitz and put pressure , then when it was 4th down Duke only rushed 3 giving the Notre dame QB all the time in the world to look for a target and a huge running lane in front knowing he was a fast running athletic QB , I guess what I am thinking is your success in shutting down Notre dame in the second half came from putting pressure on the QB not giving him time to make accurate throws or decisions being unpredictable on defense but in the most crucial time of the game completely switch to a conservative by the book defensive plan, we see this all the time one team is winning with aggressive defense then lose by going prevent style giving up huge chunks of yardage in exchange for the clock but the other teams always seem to have just enough time to throw a TD pass or get into field goal range, I say if something is working the whole game and the other team can't stop it, why change in the last 2 minutes
Duke dials up blitz after effective blitz, from the corners, mixing it up, etc, and Hartman had like zero time to throw on 2nd and 3rd down. On 4th and 16 they go back to the BS conservative Rush 3 and Drop 8 and we know what happens next....

Amen, that would’ve been absolutely corny AF, because every single ACC official wants them DOOK boy scouts to win whether it be football basketball or even baseball.
I have never seen a team get away with that many holdings on one drive than ND did on that last drive there. There's a reason why Sam Hartman had 15 seconds in the backfield to run around, and it wasn't for lack of trying by the Duke defense who had played stout the entire night. When there is a minute left and the game is on the line, the officials *have* to call really bad bear hug holds. This weekend of officiating was so horrible, whether it be that or the LSU game or one of the three others.
Duke got away with it the entire second half. The refs did everything in their power to help Duke pull out a dub, and they still didn't win. The reviewing the punt, that is unreviewable, during a commercial break, and lineman 10 yds downfield on dukes TD play were also atrocious.

Duke deserved to lose that game. That quarterback scramble for a 1st down was possibly the WORST defensive play I have EVER seen. And the offensive line played like TRASH!
☘️
Why wouldn't Duke bliz on 4th and 16?
Hartman for president 2024
Why ND got a 70,s porn dude for QB😅
Damn so close to a duke win
Terrible officiating at the end. How could that PI call be PI when he overthrew by 10 yards? It really is disgraceful officiating.
It was overthrown by 10 yards because it was pass interference.
@@jarezbear9502 it's called holding not PI,
No that PI was a good call. This is coming from a Duke fan. We held the guy. It was bad defense. It we would have gotten the safety we wouldn’t have had to worry about it.
Okay and you think ND pushed off on their pass interference. Give me a break. That was insane. There’s always hand fighting.
Cause he held him down the entire play
Wad that first pass interference call on Duke 26 was that at the beginning or end of the play it was not catch able or theown over the receiver
Poor Duke football
No matter how much those acc refs wanted Duke to win
