Jerry, I wanted to thank you for your contribution to my cacti growing knowledge. This year your seedlings grew incredibly fast, an seeds did tremendously as well. All from following your videos, again thank you my friend, much love from the US.
I have two containers of seedlings that have been sealed in cling film for 9 months. They are healthy and happy. Is there any reason why I couldn't leave them sealed in there another year? I like the low maintenance
I kind of went into this with a similar mind set as you. I wanted to keep them closed for 8-12 months. Well, I ended up unsealing them at 5 months, and 8 months. What I can say is, I've observed increased growth of my seedlings in height, width, and roots after opening them up. I think I will try to open them sooner in the future, and so that I can learn what will happen. I grow indoors, but maybe one could coordinate the unsealing with a convenient time or with when they'll move the plants outside for the growing season?
In any case, I think you'll know when it's time. You can certainly keep going until then, if it's convenient? Do report back on your record time. I imagine you have a pretty tall container? Some varieties were already maxing out my lids at 5 months. That was 2" from the soil level.
@@l2apture150 Thanks, two great points! Firstly I'm probably going to reduce growth, unable to introduce any more nutrients to the system. Secondly they might get too tall. I just checked my height and I am running out of clearance! Some are millimeters from touching roof droplets. I suppose I'd better open them up soon. Thanks!
If you do feel the need to keep them enclosed, I'll explain a method below. However, I have to stress that growth greatly increased once I opened these up. So it's doable, but not really a long term solution in my opinion. You can take a duplicate container, flip it over, and cover the seedlings. Tape along the edges to fasten them together. I did this with one container, and they continued to grow to almost 4" above the soil level without effort or issue.
@@l2apture150 Interesting :) I'd be pretty nervous about putting it back into a constantly wet environment after opening it, and breaking the sterility seal!
Its so impressive how much dedication and love you put in your plants. Very catching and inspires me a lot 👍

Hello, can I eat the fruit off my Pachanoi ??
I've tried it once, it's nothing special, kind of sugary if I remember well.
@@sanpedromastery6262 thanks for the reply and info💯🙌🏼
