Personally, I regret choosing to play the viola over the violin. The music parts in my high school orchestra are so much more boring, and there are only 3 of us compared to the 12 violins. Plus, whenever I am carrying my case around, people always think it’s a violin. Then when I tell them it’s a viola, they say “what’s a viola?” 😂
@@weirdoodles That's no reason to regret choosing the viola. Repertoire in high school is obviously going to be very simple, especially for an instrument like viola. Your orchestra doesn't have the goal of actually challenging the people within it, which makes sense considering that 90% of the people in it have played their instrument for a maximum of 2 years. You could join a community orchestra or an orchestra outside of school. Also, if you've played the instrument for a while, I don't see why you should be insecure or anything when someone asks you what a viola is. I, and maybe you, play music for myself and others' pleasure, not to impress people with the instrument I play.
@@weirdoodlesadding on to what fufuwasher was saying, you also should look at how many people choose the violin over the viola. So there's countless violinists, and thus harder to compete for a place in an orchestra. But there's less violists, meaning less competition and easier to stand out. You know what I mean? Also, it's a good thing that you get to explain what the viola is! You get to be the one who introduces a new instrument to people, and who knows who might be inspired to pick it up as well! Or even just introduced to viola music they've never heard before!
