- This is the Gulikit KK3 Max. This is a review unit provided to me by the distributor. I've gotta say: I love this controller. It's got everything you want from a controller: Hall Effect sticks and triggers, interchangable buttons, rear "pro" buttons, and macro support. Plus the triggers can be switched between trigger and button modes. This device is fantastic and it comes with my highest recommendation. Pick one up for yourself with the link below:

For a moment I thought you would test it on Linux
I thought so too until i thought back to that "third party" wording.
I’d be surprised if it wasn’t completely functional, mine gets delivered today though so lmk if you need something tested
@@scavanger1000 how does it function on Linux? Mine is arriving tomorrow but I'm not trying to use Windows if possible.
@@naam_loos works great, the Kingkong 2 had issues with vibration on some distros but the 3 works out of the box
Still none of these controllers support the back buttons as unique inputs. 😢 I dont just want to map the paddles to face buttons...i want to have them be unique inputs. Specifically, i want to be able to map a back paddle in steam input to toggle gyro without using a face button for it. :(
They had to do drivers for that. Windows can't detect those buttons magically- Would be great for emulators save/load states too.
Ya, the new scuf envision has those on the bottom of the controller, but it only works on windows and you need their software running
Vader 3 pro can do that.
reWASD also works with the Vader 3 pro, for mapping everything, but they also have their own software for that.
I went for it, because of this issue, for mapping keyboard and doing macro, I pretty happy with it so far.
Quality is not bad, they most likely improved it over the months.
I was afraid the back buttons would be bad, after having the elite 2 for over a year, honestly they are quite good, didn't think I would like them, but I do.
So u want to cheat? Uses macros is cheating. Remapping buttons to the back isn’t
I connected my 8bitdo Pro 2 to a Batocera console, and it detects the back buttons as their own input instead of duplicating a face button. So I mapped one as the retroarch hotkey, to control save states and menus and stuff. Hold it, and all the face buttons have a secondary function, like the Fn key on a keyboard. But when I connect to a Switch, I usually have the back buttons mapped to L3 and R3. It's much easier than pressing in the joysticks.
I've been using the KK2 controller for the past year, and it's been great. After 4-5 hours of use, one of the face buttons ("B", to be precise) began making squeaky noises upon being pressed, but the noise eventually went away after another 20 hours of usage. It's been very reliable as a wireless PC controller, and I'd be willing to buy another Gulikit controller if I ever need to. However, I personally wouldn't go with the KK3 unless the LED lights around the analog sticks can be disabled. I'm not sure why some companies believe LED lights in one's peripheral vision enhance gaming somehow.
Yeah the LED or RGB lights being on every thing marketed towards gamers is annoying. Atleast with a keyboard there's an argument that it makes it easier to see in the dark. But on a controller it makes no sense like I'm not gonna lose track of the right analog stick when playing the dark. Just a of waste battery life.
@@Animated__Freak yeah but you can just turn it off so it's fine
I got a GameSir T4 Kaleid and, not planning to use it too much on windows, it worried me how it had quite aggressive rgb. But there’s a combo that allows to change the intensity on multiple levels and even turn it off. At the lowest setting it’s not bad and still adds a little flair so that’s how I use it. But really, I think they know how rgb isn’t necessarily welcome: at some point my dad somehow went from “video games are a waste of time” to “do you have any car games that would run on my computer?” and I convinced him to get a cheap game pad with the PlayStation layout (Gran Turismo 4, no need to confuse him with mismatched buttons) and it has bat signal grade rgb leds. Also a button to turn them down and even off…. (Not that it’s much of a feat, but a 4th gen i5 with a GT 1030 does GT4 at rock solid 60 fps at… eh, either 1440p or 4K, I forgot)
My kk2 got squeaky buttons, went away, then came back. It's a rollercoaster of squeaky to not squeaky.
just turn off. press gear button combo with left d-pad
The Linux Gamer gaming on Windows? What heresy is this?! Lol. In all seriousness, love your stuff. This controller is interesting for sure.
I love controllers and I think in the future there is going to be a boutique style market for them, in a similar fashion to what we have with mechanical keyboards.
There are so many other old controllers that have unique things that I think people would be willing to pay extra for. For example the Gamecube has a octagon shape for it's joystick. This makes it easier to hit one of the main 8 directions.
For example the Saitek Rumble Force has a squear shape for its joystick. This makes it strange to play any games where the circle is the best shape but the 8 way of the gamecube would still work fairly well.
@@bland9876 Oh that's really unique, I haven't seen that before. Also very interesting that it has a 6 button layout on the front. Usually they only manage to fit 4 buttons. If you want a new controller that has the 8 way Gamecube sticks then the Retro Fighters Duelist has it.
@@Animated__Freak is that one of the ones that works on the GameCube? I can never decide which one to pick up because I prefer PlayStation layout over Xbox but GameCube controllers are Xbox layout and it'd be weird to use a PlayStation layout GameCube controller.
*its joystick (possessive pronoun)
it's = contraction of "it is" or "it has"
All contractions have apostrophes. Possessive pronouns never do.
Finally, been looking for a review regarding the dpad. Most tech reviewer I've seen just skipped it.
*reviewers
They definitely lost a chunk of points with me by not having it fit in the case with the paddles on the back buttons.
I'm going to get this controller for my Nintendo Switch, Android and Ayn Loki Max 😊
I use a 8Bitdo Ultimate controller for my Steam Deck and Switch. I bought a set of buttons and switched the A, B, X, Y, buttons around in Xbox style. It's my favorite controller, because it also has the great 8Bitdo D-Pad, a charging dock and a great app for updating the firmware and to change all kinds of settings.
I also use 8Bitdo wireless controllers for my Famicom top loader, SNES and Megadrive. They're great!
This Gulikit one, seems to be a good one too!
The times that third party controllers sucked is long gone.
They recently upgraded the PC model Ultimate 2.4 To have hall effects now.
I also like the 8bitdo ultimate but for me what i don't like about it is the d-pad and the mush shoulder buttons, wish it was all microswitched. I did the same thing with the buttons on mine.
Don't forget the 8bitdo ultimate controller also allows you to wake up the switch from sleep, I think it is the only one that does it.
I have the Gulikit Zen Pro (rebrand of the KK2) and it's been pretty solid once I got it working. No rear buttons, and the face buttons stick a bit and are Nintendo layout. This new one fixes at least one of those issues.
I would love a controller with Hall effect sticks, at least 2 rear buttons, and xbox glyphs that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Bonus points if it also has gyro and trackpads (never gonna happen unless Valve does it.) The Vader 3 Pro looks to fit the bill, but apparently has QC issues.
Nice review! I have the KK2 pro and love it so I'm glad to hear the KK3 Max is also good. Quick tip about windows auto-mapping the buttons to the xbox config, idk if this carried over to the KK3, but on the KK2, if you press the gear button and the plus button at the same time, the controller will internally switch the buttons to match the Nintendo layout, so "A" will actually be "A" instead of "B" being "A".
what music is playing in the background at the beginning of the video? i really like it
I just got this today and I have to say, against great controllers like 8bitdo Ultimate and Xbox Elite Core 2, this is absolutely outstanding. Tested it out on various games and it‘s so smooth, precise, and just a joy to use.
Elite 2 is not a great controller it’s actually garbage and outdated
Can you show us how to calibrate this controller?
The fact that it has a battery is a huge con. In 1 to 2 years it will be at less than half capacity, and it will be just yet another annoyance you have to deal with.
Battery replacement in these things is usually bothersome at best, and dangerous at worst (in regards to accidentally damaging the product). Let's not speak of how laborious it is to get a decent trustworthy replacement battery.
Based EU for at least stepping in and putting some legislative effort into forcing manufacturers to making battery replacement easy, via readily accessible battery compartments.
The 8bitdo Pro 2 does this best, you can even use normal aaa batteries if ever needed.
Can anyone tell me if the Gulikit kk3 Max controller works on PS4 with the Goku adapter with a good polling rate for competitive games?
Will Ben Heck Make a one handed version of this?
I recently broke my 10 year old ps4 controller which was perfect for aiming as it had loose tension while at the center of the deadzone and didn't have a "hump" you had to get over like most controllers allowing for fine microadjustments, and was buttery smooth, if you could recommend any controller PURELY for aiming like my use-case what would you recommend this controller for FPS games and if you would have a better suggestion than this controller what would it be?
Hall effect sticks are perfect for fps buttery smooth.
a quick search suggested to me the gyro on this thing isn't the greatest. shame, everything else seemed fine :(
can it mapped with ds4windows?
There are two firmware upgrades.
One is for CPU and the other is for the controller profile.
You did the profile but not the CPU.
The CPU is an executable and it has to be in the proper mode for the executable to see the controller and upgrade.
I don't know if there is a CPU firmware upgrade yet for the KK3 Maxx.
I've had this controller for a couple weeks now. The only issue I've had so far is how easily it turns on the Steam Deck. Throw it in your bag, and one of the buttons will inevitably be pressed, turning on the KK3, and then turning on the SD. So when you get to your destination, you may find that the SD has been turned on, inside the case, both heating it up and draining the battery.
One solution is to keep the KK3 inside the case, which is fine unless you have any of the back keys installed. Does anyone have a fix for this? I think if you power off the SD, it can't be turned on via Bluetooth, but I'm not sure about this.
I own the older version of the controller without backpedals. My only beef with the GulitKit is that while it has settings for Android/IOS, Switch and PC, it for some reason lacks PS4/PS5 functionality. That's something I hoped the new version would improve upon. Ah well, maybe the next after this one...
what's the song in the background
If you prefer top-dpad instead of top-joystick, the 8bitdo Pro 2 is hard to beat. I usually prefer top-joystick though, so this KK3 seems pretty nice.
UT 99 Facing Worlds.
UT 99 had such an amazing soundtrack.
I wish you ran through the gyro as well.
Love my KK2Pro but also really want this one but in black.
The black is a fingerprint magnet, it is very noticeable on the velvety silicone.
@@SinjiKazamaI have the black very. I can confirm it's not great for cleaning it, but it looks so good.
I just got my controller in and out of the box the right stick had over 20% circularity errors in gamepad tester. The right stick wouldn’t register any movements with the thumbstick going up. It was weird. Tried to upgrade the firmware but the controller isn’t recognized by my pc even trying different ports and using the included cable. Sounds like a got a lemon. Quality control is rough.
Every company have lemons every single one
8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller is amazing as well.
Anyone try this for Xbox? What was your experience?
IMO the best HE controller is the Flydigi Vader 3 Pro, as the K-silver JH16 HE module is better than the Gulikit one in every single way.
It's just a shame I don't think there's a single HE controller with the PS analog layout, as I prefer the PS d-pad placement for 2D stuff.
Gulikit uses an improved module, called the GL1806.
I love UT99 background music ❤
Foregone Destruction, love it as well!
Kinda funny watching this after knowing that gulikit lied about it being tactile x)
nah just returned this controller today, my g3 back button started sticking after day 2. anyways the back paddles are not the most comfortable. i liked the controller tho, shame it wasnt durable
For those who want to know, i have the kk3 max and it works perfectly on linux + steam, even with proton.
@gardiner_bryant how does it work in linux? I assume since the device appears to be a USB mass storage device, the firmware can be upgraded in linux as well?
Different reviews did tried on the steam deck and it seems to work.
The one thing that annoys me is that the default button configuration is the Nintendo configuration, i know the buttons are swappable, but every system except for the switch uses the Xbox/Dreamcast button layout by default.
That Gulikit controller looks awfully like my white X-Box Elite controller and with Hall effect sticks it already has the means of beating official controllers everywhere.
So you haven't use Gulikit Kingkong 2?
No
I thought he was goign to say he played baby mario on the gba. (It's the only mario advance game I don't own)
Does it work with the PS5?
No you need a adaptor for that.
@@77wolfblade got one you could recommend?
A shame you didn't even show the different mode of the dpad. The dpad is one of the best dpad out there even for fighting games.
Gulikit is really nice.
Interesting, it follows nintendo's layout, first time seeing such controller
I like to grab whichever controller is going to keep my fingers in the same position on both hands.
If I could only use one controller PlayStation does that better. Nintendo layout until they switched it (get it lol) do they have your fingers together most of the time but reaching the Dpad below is worse than reaching the joy stick below.
Xbox keeps your fingers together on platform games like Sonic heroes and battle for bikini bottom.
I guess firmware update is only available on Windows
If its like the KK2, yes. Windows only.
Finally a third party controller with the xbox controller shape, i love 8bitdo controllers, but the shape doesn't really do it for me, this one sure looks interesting
🦍This company needs a dedicated Xbox version of this 💫
497 days no alcohol 🥇
It came with Xbox buttons and you just need to gently pull the buttons out using the tweezers and insert the Xbox buttons. It registers as an Xbox Series controller on PC
You can't even map buttons they just come pre ordained... which is super not helpful.....
Just sucks they put all this work into making a good Hall Effect stick controller yet still managed to put the analog sticks in the wrong position.
So... this is quite useless without an input delay test. Xbox and PS controllers are formidable controllers and have 125Hz and 250Hz pooling rates making then a 7ms and 4ms input delay controllers. Also, they have great input delay jitter (below 1ms). Not knowing this metric makes this review completly useless as your felling is not reliable neither consistent. I also read that v2 has horrible input delay making it as good as that king kong game from last year...
Being left-handed, those offset x-box style controllers drive me mad, I much prefer the Playstation style controllers where the analog sticks are in a normal position.
There are some cheap PlayStation like clone controllers with the Xbox buttons for the PC if you're interested.
I don't like the asymmetrical layout. Hard pass!
These cost as much as a first party controller tho, the third parties that suck make up for it by being dirt cheap
These are half the price and even less than other pro controllers especially wireless
junk dpad for fighting games!
Its the worst controller Ihave ever had, upgrade bricked it straight away, this was my7 experiance, why dont they have any soft ffs its 2024
