Ranking EVERY Stage Hazard in Super Smash Bros Ultimate
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 29 апр 2022
- Super Smash Bros Ultimate is home to a lot of stages from its many different franchises. In order to give certain stages special properties to better reference their home series, smash ultimate implements several stage hazards into nearly every stage in the game. In Smash Ultimate specifically, there is even a stage hazard toggle used mostly in competitive play in order to remove these hazards if the player wants to. Some stages are made better with hazards disabled and some are made worse, so today I’m going to be ranking and making a tier list all 101 stage hazards in super smash bros ultimate to determine which stages improve and which stages are made worse when they are enabled!

Hope you all enjoy this video! This one took a ton of time but I'll try to make sure the wait between this and the next upload isn't too long
It's fine, you upload at a high quality so I don't care if your videos have MONTH long gaps just focus on making your videos the best they can be!
Your editing is god tier. I can see u no de weh
Bup
Dude I don’t mind, I mean what am I gonna be upset about, a mediocre youtuber not uploading? This is a joke
There is a troll on hero’s stage. There is a treasure chest but it will either bite you or contain a bomb!!!!!!
Personally, I feel like stage hazards get better when there's more players, since instead of forcing you to work around them to fight your one, singular opponent, the hazards just facilitate you not targeting any one person
Or using them as a distraction to catch some of them by surprise.
I get what you're saying and I totally agree with you 💯
Odyssey: "Now I'm not gonna rank each and every hazard individually as that would be a bit absurd" (0:25)
Also odyssey: "at 100k I will rank every moon in Mario odyssey"
(1:42)
Good luck doing 880 moons one by one
All moons from toadette will be tied for last
@@Swagpion yup
@@Swagpion You were wrong
@@racoonwhocannotbekilled9999 it was a good guess. In fact the only reason some were better was because of the counter, not even the moon itself.
The reason why the dive into the heart part of Hollow Bastion is a hazard is because Steve goes from mining stone to mining iron in it, so it does affect gameplay.
Not in any effective way.
They could have kept the visual aspect of the transition, and just make Steve's resources not change.
Just turn them off when Steve's being played then? Removing something that's super hype and visually beautiful just because of one character is the lamest shit ever.
@@Miriam_J_ So turn them off during every game, then? Steve seems to be everywhere…
thats just not true, its been proven but lets pretend there is a difference aka this so we don't rage at the smash team
I wish the stage hazard toggle was more customizable, like in magic ant all the stage hazzards are cool and unique, but flying man ruins it for me!
Yeah I’d LOVE to have it let you choose specific hazards to place onto a stage. I’m sure it’d be hard to implement but I think it’d definitely be worth it!
M A G I C A N T
Yeah and yoshi's story and smashville would be so much better
@@Odyssey_Central hey odyssey, how hard do you think it will would be to choose the worst and best moons in odyssey?
Certified auto correct moment
If anyone is wondering, the toggle on Pac-Land turns off:
Hydrant water
The bonuses that are caused by moving stumps/hydrants
The ship and water spouts on the bridge
The Wing Shoes
The Super Pac item
The collapsing and spinning bridges
The springboard
And the moving cloud platforms
There’s also the healing balloons towards the end of each trip
Tysm, I'm pretty sure the only reason I've played on Pac-Land is for spirit battles and I had no idea 😭
I just want the ability to toggle stage hazards for specific stages, so if I pick random for stages, I can always get the better version.
Should be a feature in the next game.
@@GoldenDryBonesandStu Should be a feature in this bloody game, but after tonnes of patches they still neglected it.
@@k-leb4671 i was thinking of something for u.s like cereal box characters or kool-aid man
"it also has these moving platforms, but who cares..."
I do. Those platforms on Wily Castle are neat references to various Mega Man games, have unique functions compared to other platforms in the Smash, and would make the stage actually interesting and not just a flat stage. The problem is that you barely get to see them even with hazards on because they don't spawn when the Yellow Devil does. A version of the stage with platforms but without the devil would be awesome. You'd get a more interesting stage and actually get to see the platforms to their fullest.
The Yellow Devil ruins everything.
I was so mad when I first found out that Dr. Wily's castle with hazards off didn't just make the yellow devil disappear, but the platforms too.
We could have had a unique, likely tournament legal stage, but instead we got Final Destination with walls.
10000 years of human evolution have led to the sentence "the yellow devil is illegal"
Pjiggles
Extremely unique ranking! This game has been ranked on everything to DEATH, but this is very good and unique!
When’s the advanced rule ranking
I just want to say, bowser getting killed in time with the music at 17:36 is SO GOOD
This list is sooooo different coming from a casual player so it’s fun to see your opinion on it (also that edit at 13:45 is so funny to me for some reason).
The bricks can now be broken.
*YIPEE-*
@@CoraCreates This technically makes the stage better
@@lailoutherand yep.
I think a ranking video on the quotes in the punch out stage would be neat. No sweat though.
In a hypothetical Smash 6, I'd really appreciate if you could toggle hazards on a per-stage basis, or even turn specific hazards on each stage on or off.
I want to be able to play on Wily's Castle with the extra moving platforms but without the Yellow Devil.
My personal favourite stage hazard is the shy guys in mario circuit stage, because you can see them on the map in the background so you know when there coming, however you can knock the enemies into the shy guys to do a lot damage. That’s why there my favourite stage hazard
Ah yes, "either tech or get run over"
30:54 Actually, there is a reason why hazards are off… the Fly Guys… they bring in food, and even if items are off, they still come to bring in food…
I know
@@TheShasityn I know you know
Nope, they fixed that oversight in the last update.
@@32xios69 Thank god
The Mementos stage hazard is great.
I once had a CPU bounce straight down, get sent up by a train, and the get KO'd to a Nikita Missile that was flying on straight line (sent from the ledge).
It really felt great.
Certain stages do have a slight impact when items are on (Mushroomy Kingdom, Dracula’s Castle, ect). But I could imagine that the items wouldn’t effect the rankings regardless.
Also seeing Hanenbow high on any list somehow satisfies my sadistic brain. I prefer it to be hazardless myself thoug-
22:43 NEVERMIND, THIS WEIRDLY SATISFIES THAT MINDSET MORE.
Draculas Castle has the candles from the games I believe with Hasards on to get items
Fun fact: Super Happy Tree (Or Yoshi's Island 64) had a version of the stage without the clouds but it was only in Smash 64 and it could only be used during the Yoshi team battle in 1P mode (Or Classic Mode). Though in Smash Remix (A mod of 64) you can play on it during a VS match. I know this doesn't really matter but I thought it was cool to point out.
I also have the brain of a 3 year old so, you aren't the only one
It was originally named Yoshi's Island (with 64 added in Melee) as well
Technically Hollow Bastion becomes ever so slightly skinnier with the transformation, by just a few pixels at each end. But this is not enough to create any issues. The only potential issue I can think of is that the bright white that the stage becomes in the transformation could cause eye-strain for some people. But none of this impacts my decision to agree that Hollow Bastion is 100% better with hazards.
10:59, that’s how we roll
If unchained chomp was in any of the stages it would be #1 for sure.
To me, the random nature of the game and it's unprecedented level of variety is what keeps me playing all these years later... playing without items or hazards kind of loses the crazy fun that can occur out of randomness. I've never felt that smash was meant to be taken seriously in a competitive way.
Completely agree
Yep
I would say that hazards and items off just make the game boring to play as the people who are "the best" at the game always win
When I feel to truly be good at smash you have to be able to adapt, kinda like Mario Kart, where I don't see people banning items, because disabling them would be boring
@@Iris_Astraea Smash is still fun without items. Mario Kart without items is like the shallowest racer ever.
100% If you don't play with items and hazards then you can't say you're good at Smash. You're good at generic fighting games. Someone truly good at the game can win using all the nonsense it gives you. THAT'S Smash Bros.
That's my style, smash is also party game at it's core, and a party game needs bullshit, needs stuff like getting one hit KO'd, assist trophies and my favorite addition also called stage morph
24:22 is probably the sickest gunner clip I'll ever see.
When the computer hit that on me I said the exact same thing LMAO
@@Odyssey_Central Odyssey Central, I hate you because, you are so rude. If you scare us again, I will simply delete your channel.
you're ranking the hazards with a competetive mindset instead of how they were meant to be viewed, as a fun gimmick to set the stages apart and provide more entertainment for a group of people
That's because the video is about his opinions. You want him to rank them based on someone else's opinions? Yours?
6:57 had me laughing wayy to hard for my own good
5:12 why with a grain of salt? Accessibility is important, and my mother suffers from enough motion sickness she can’t even watch me play Smash. I wish there was a setting to turn on fixed camera mode in regular Smash battles, as it’s only accessible in Special Smash and Training Mode.
Can you rank all final smashes next
22:22 Funnily enough this isn’t actually a guaranteed kill. I say this because I’ve been hit by it before and lived (well lived until getting killed by the water pushing me offstage.)
17:37 you literally brought incineroar to Windy Hill but didn't put them in the big the cat's skin
He's probably supposed to represent zavok
@@sumbuddy7309 incineroar literally has a Sonic based skin
Really good video!!! I really agree with all of these I think, really fun topic to talk about and really well conveyed!
I don’t think you need to be a genius to know last place was Yellow Devil
Although I’m also pretty competitive, I find the transforming stages to be much better. They’re definitely better than Brinstar IMO
I’d put them in beneficial hazards
7:19 “Maybe it’s just my Mario bias…”
*Looks at channel name*
*Looks at Uploaded Videos Tab*
*Looks at channel profile picture*
Nope. No Mario bias that I can see.
With hazards on in Minecraft world, the biomes will change, and the platforms will move, but only sometimes, and it’s pretty unnoticeable.
That's not true. The stage never changes biomes during the battle, you have to select them manually from the stage select screen. The platforms don't move, either.
With hollow bastion, I honestly think the transformed stage is LESS distracting, if anything. There's so much less movement in the background and it's generally a much visually clearer stage overall. Makes me wish we could pick that version of the stage as the default honestly
Great video. Hoping to see a stage ranking video at some point.
Also I totally agree with #1. What about diving into the heart of various Kingdom Hearts characters is so hazardous?
Fun fact: Prior to version 13.0.0, the Shy Guys in Yoshi's Story would always carry food even if items were turned off. This irritated people to no end, because it would've been absolutely PERFECT in hazards on tournaments otherwise (which, imo, has a MUCH better and more interesting legal stage list than hazards off tournaments, since all the legal stages are not only still competively viable, but also more fun). Luckily this was fixed, and now it's absolutely PERFECT.
I was waiting for Norfair the whole video. Glad to see that you also have good taste.
Gamer is also great.
Bro I didn't know how much I wanted this until now. What a legend you are.
Oh that's such a unique ranking idea! I love this ranking 100 percent one of my favorite videos so far from you! But none will beat the best video removing cheese from Mario maker 2 levels ;))
Very surprised you didn’t mention KOF stadium. It fixes the cheese associated with the walk-off stages by making the blast zones invisible walls until someone collides and gets slammed into them hard enough. It’s fun as hell, disincentives camping, and force’s interactivity. Definitely my pick for the best casual stage in the game.
Also on the subject of xenoblade 3’s release date, we just can’t stop winning sorry I don’t make the rules. Don’t blame me blame Monolith soft for being absolutely cracked. XENOBLADE CHRONICLES 3 HYPE!
He mentions it in the quick list starting at 1:20. The stage does not change when hazards are turned off; therefore, for the purposes of this video, it has no hazard to rank. I agree with you that it fixes the walk-off problem quite well, though.
@@didiercollardI missed that. Thanks!
Tbh my fav stage is memento with hazards cuz if you get the slanted roof with the train you can look ppl with a freaking train which is great
I despise Xenoblade 2, but the Switch isn't exactly lacking in Mario titles, while XC only had two games.
_but that's two more games than F Zero_
Watching this on my tv but want to comment that I am happy that you use the characters that go with the stages on the stages because some I didnt know lol
The team knew that Rainbow Ride and the Yellow Devil were not fun so they adapted it faithfully to Smash
XD
I loved Wrecking Crew with Hazards on, because if you get caught under one of the barrels as it falls on you, you’ll be trapped in it. Kid me thought that was the funniest thing ever.
I forget if I commented this on an earlier video, but in case I didn't: One topic that I think would make for an interesting video would be "Where would all the DLC characters be located on the World of Light Map?" (example: I believe that Sephiroth and Pyra/Mythra would be on the Final Battle map - Sephirot on the Dark Side, Pythra on the Light Side)
I haven't seen any videos on this topic, and I think you would do a good job covering it.
What a good video! I actually agree with most of them, the only change I would make is by putting super Mario 3D land at the highest, but overall good video!
Warioware is absurdly underrated. Hazards take that a super boring stage and transform it into a genuinely entertaining match. power ups you get can be a bit busted but IMO that adds some fun variety.
As a xenoblade fan who is used to the slander, cope and seethe. Love the video and channel though
INDEED!
Interesting idea, and great execution
From an even more strictly competitive standpoint, the best hazards-on elements that improve the competitive stage list would have to be
4. Dreamland's Wind
3. Yoshi's Story Cloud
2. Fountain of Dream's moving platforms
1. Smashville's moving platform
I wanted a round top 5 but even with just those changes the stages look a lot better. Plus Small Battlefield over Pokemon Stadium 2 means sets will actually get to end on time.
Something else about GCO, if you have items on as well as hazards chests will appear that when hit can give a random item from one of your selection
I love how a channel named “Odyssey Central” makes these Smash Bros. Ultimate videos.
Can’t wait for the 100k sub special
22:22 once on that map I was fighting a cpu and they immediately walked into the water and died
Can't wait for you to hit 100k!
Me too
Prediction for #1: Hallow Bastion or Yoshi Story because they fixed the hazardless version of it.
Edit: I was right about Hallow Bastion. Yoshi story got 4th so I had a good prediction
I love your vids they make my day
Odyssey Central: *shows sans and ness in the same stage*
Me: wat?
I watched it like I said I would. Love your content.
I like what they were doing with the Yellow Devil where you and your opponent partner up for a while
12:46
That's the stage that jumpscared the hell outta me every time the drawing goes black🤣
I just noticed that odyssey kept using the appropriate character for each stage, that's super cool
If in a Smash Bros tournament a main Sora gets to the finals, I really hope Hollow Bastion with hazards gets to be the final stage. Specially against Cloud or Sephiroth.
Eh, I disagree that stage hazards should be penalized for interfering with fights. If anything, hazards that serve little purpose should be ranked way lower, even if by that definition of interferring with fights such hazards would get points.
Rationale: If you didn't want interference at all, there's the option of just turning them off.
On the pirate ship stage you forgot the section when a tornado appears and makes the ship fly up to the sky and crash back down
Also the ship landing on a rock
It’s a good time when odyssey uploads
As someone who finds competitive play in smash really boring
I Disagree with alot of the top and bottom of the list
Since especially in the top pics the changes were very mundane and don't even have a reason to be classed as a hazard
If it was me ranking them personally I would base it on if the hazard wasn't too intrusive but made the game more exciting to play
Although I'm glad to see Norfair high on the list
I wish the hazardless versions where more competitive friendly deleting stuff like ceilings, camping areas and even adjusting blast zones, most of the time they delete the fun part of most stages to left either a boring battlefield, final destination or bridge of eldin clone or not being legal at all. i'm honestly more of a Hazards fan, I evade every arena with Omega/battlefield rules. But I can get why people preffers the Hazardless A.K.A . The uncool verions
I find the great cave offensive really fun to play on
You just have to throw your opponent in the lava and kill them at 100%
The Kalos Elite 4 stage is really fun, but it can be annoying like the other pokemon stages and have effects change with the different pokemon that show up. At least with Spear Pillar and the BW stge the other pokemon don't add effect but this with the fire type stage its either "regular stage" or "extreme fire" and I can see how it can make things more challenging
Hollow Bastion is also the only stage that is different with hazards off in its Omega and Battlefield forms
Hazard sets you can toggle would be a cool addition to a smash(or smash-like) game, hell even a stage scene selection would be cool if you wanted to play on a specific version even if it's only one that would turn up mid hazard, etc.
edit: and yes that does include Wily's Castle but Yellow Devil is now invincible if you really wanted to be that masochistic :b
8:04 competitive be like: because there is a slight change elevation, IT CAN’T BE FAIR.
10:21 Parrying the shield breaker. You mad lad.
Something about Dracula's Castle, but if items are set to appear, then a few candles can appear in the foreground, and you can break them for an item
I love that the first thing the community did when they saw that cloud on yoshis island was name it Randal
Pit and snake stage character interactions are so cool
Smash Fans: Melee is the best entry
Also Melee: 12:35
As far as i remember in the 3DS version of smash 4 the turning golden (or atleast from coins) you get super armor
11:33 that cpu is like "come back i wanna fight :("
I think Odyssey Central likes destroying bridges.
I leave my tablet for 18 seconds, then four videos come out
You got to love that on most of the stages, he uses the characters form from that game
The Peckish Aristocrab can spike, huh… now this is a good discovery
Ok he definitely made this list without items on. A lot of stage hazards rely on having items on. The mimics on Yggdrasils alter, the duck on duck hunt dropping items, Tomodachi life blocking what items you can see. There’s just so many things that only exist with items on.
Huh, didn’t know about the ducks dropping items. My opinions wouldn’t have changed regardless though
@@Odyssey_Central yeah the ducks don’t really do much. It’s the mimics on Yggdrasils alter that are really dangerous though. They’re basically an instant KO if you don’t avoid them.
When the vending machine doesn't accept your money 25:16
I don't know why, but I love the "YIPPEE!" effect.
29:39 Personally I dont really like this stage, but with hazards on it gets worse because those platforms that move let you rack up like 100 damage if you catch your opponent on them with an infinite jab
I think the ONLY reason the Hallowed Bastion stage doesn't change with stage hazards off is because of the different sections having very tiny differences between how the underneath is, changing how some recovers may be underneath it. It’s a very dumb reason but it's Nintendo we're talking about so who knows, that may be their logic with this
24:40 Wow, I'm not the only one who says it like that, It's port town aero dive, but I always say aero drive.
At least 90% of smash matches I've played were with hazards on so I don't mind most of them. My favs are Kalos Pokemon League, Midgar, and Halberd
As a KH fan I definitely agree with number 1 and I also wish that we could play on Sora's DTTH while using Sora
I'm still really annoyed the hazards toggle was never just added to the stage select screen. It always really annoyed me how I needed to switch rules just to do that.
(19:50) Probably the one time you can have fun causing property damage.
24:22
Some prime CPU BS right there!
11:20 FECTO FORGO
Let’s get this man to 100k!
