    Tiny Tim played the ukulele. He was an interesting eccentric, but his records are a novelty to me. The Idle Race was Jeff Lynn's first band before he joined The Move and founded The Electric Light Orchestra. Alejandro Escovedo is the uncle of the famous singer and drummer Sheila E.

      Yes, Tiny Tim was a novelty act from the late 1960's. He specialized in Tin Pan Alley numbers from the '20's and '30's. Was a popular guest on "Rowan And Martin's Laugh-In" TV series. Got married on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson to "Miss Vicky". Anyway, that's a definitely different record for Frank! I imagine it has his first album "God Bless Tiny Tim", and maybe his followup album as well (it's a 2-LP set).

    I saw Tiny Tim live playing ukulele and Tiptoe through the Tulips probably when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. He was the “headliner” for a traveling circus. We got autographs. That was at least the second time my dad saw him live since he hit a show in NYC in the late ‘60s where people pelted him with tomatoes.

    I only know L7 as they played on the UK TV show The Word in 1992. One of the girls dropped her shorts towards the end of the song and then walked off partially naked. Surprisingly, the video is on YT and the song is called Let's Pretend Were Dead. I think the program may have been transmitted live at the time too.

    I love ROG! They do a phenomenal job with their pressings.
    Morphine is easily one of my top 3 favorite bands ever. They were a Boston based band, and being from Boston, I was lucky enough to see them many times before the singer / 2 string slide bass player, Mark Sandman’s untimely death, when he collapsed on stage in Italy. “Good” is my favorite album from them and their first too. If you’ve never heard “Good”, you’re in for a treat. It’s amazing. That’s Mark’s honest to god real last name, btw.

    Tiny Tim was incredibly passionate about music. He specialized in Tin Pan Alley because he didnt want the music to die. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of music. He may be seen as a joke to many due to the falsetto and will probably most be remembered for his Tonight Show wedding, but the man was amazing.

    As someone else mentioned, Jeff Lynne from ELO was the original writer and leader for the Idle Race. I have the compilation of all three albums plus extras. He left before the third album to join The Move with Roy Wood. They had about three albums out before morphing into ELO. Roy Wood left during the sessions for the second ELO album to go solo and form Wizard. Rick Nielson from Cheap Trick loved The Move and played two of their songs live. Ace Frehley recorded Do Ya which was first recorded by The Move and later ELO.

    6:09 As Movie Dealers has already pointed out, Idle Race was a British group from the late 1960s and early 1970s that boasted future E.L.O. leader, Jeff Lynne. Their 1970 cover of Mungo Jerry's "In The Summertime" was only successful in Australia and a few other markets but in Britain was completely overshadowed by Mungo Jerry's original version of the song. The mistake Movie Dealers made was the period. Idle Race was between but also overlapping the eras of The Move but ahead of Electric Light Orchestra. The Move were active from 1966(a couple of releases on British Decca's Deram label) then from 1967 to to 1970 on EMI's Regal Zonophone label then on Fly Records(Fly briefly issued by EMI before switching to PYE distribution). In 1971 The Move began appearing on EMI's then-new Harvest label where they remained until 1974. Idle Race had only two official releases in Britain(singles-wise), one on Liberty in 1969 and another on United Artists, likely a reissue, in 1976. In Canada, Idle Race had two singles, "Neandethal Man"/"Victim Of Circumstance" (Liberty LBF-15391) issued in 1970 and a second, "Impostors Of Life's Magazine"/"Here We Go 'Round The Lemon Tree"(Daffodil DIL-1059) issued 1974, likely issued post-breakup. More info on The Move and Idle Race can be found at 45Cat.com if you're interested.

  • @VinylRescue
    @VinylRescue 4 года назад

    Never heard of most of them, but SCORE! I too prefer black vinyl as it tends to sound better. I saw on another video that black vinyl is made with graphite that makes for less friction when the stylus rides thru the grooves. Colored/splattered vinyl lacks the graphite mixture thus producing for more noise, but some will argue against that. I have some clear red and blue vinyl and they actually sound great (clear colored vs solid colored vinyl do have some differences). I do have two splatter colored vinyl albums and they are rather noisy! I really wished they would STOP making colored vinyl for sound quality purposes considering the amount of money they want for a single copy. Just give me BLACK vinyl that sounds great! Ok, rant over now!
    I did find a good article on Discogs about black vs colored vinyl: blog.discogs.com/en/true-colors-black-or-colored-vinyl/
