    Fun fact: EU fill power ratings are 100 higher than US fill powers. So 850 EU is higher than its US equivalent.

    Clear, cogent, funny. I'm in love. With down, sure, but with the speaker here as well.

    Since i have a WM sleeping bag with 850+ i don't trust the numbers from the other company's anymore.

    Can it be possible to take down from an underperforming sleeping bag and transfer it to another with potential to perform better?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  4 месяца назад

      With a little sewing machine know-how and some patience it should be possible. You would be adding more insulation to one bag so it would be warmer, but also heavier and an increase in pack-size, you would also be adding more down to baffles that may not be designed for it. If you feel confident in your abilities it could be a fun project, or if that doesn't work out you can always look to a higher fill down bag for your colder adventures.
      It may also be worth looking at your sleep system overall to check why you feel your bag is underperforming. When was the last time you washed your down bag? And also, what are you sleeping on? Your sleeping mat plays a crucial part in insulating you from the ground and a clean, well lofted bag will perform much better.

    Another clear, concise and informative video about down fill power, fill weight and down treatments.
    Like to see you explain the potential pro’s and con’s of different down jacket(or sleeping bag) construction materials and techniques.
    I realise that it may be overkill and possibly too heavy for all but the gnarliest and harshest of British or European mountain conditions, but I’m impressed by the Rab Batura jacket.
    In fact. I’d say it felt considerably warmer than it’s stated 800 FP.
    Any of your colleagues or customers tried out the Rab Batura(or Resolution) jacket?
    Looking forward to your next video.
    Keep up the good work guys!
    Best regards.

      Thanks for the kind words 🙌 we currently have one customer review on the Resolution: "This is a very light but extremely warm jacket, which if I'm honest, is a little too warm. Unless you're living or walking in sub zero conditions Id recommend a down jacket with a lower warmth rating."

      Well. I was eventially hoping to use this jacket in sub-polar Alaska, Canadian, North Western US and Scandinavia. In temperatures as low as -25°C

    Thanks for posting. I found this helpful but I still struggle to fully understand.
    Can I use my own jackets as an example:
    I have an OEX down jacket, which is 285g of 700 full power, then I also have a Forclaz jacket which is 101g of 800 fill power.
    The OEX is much thicker/ bigger and has the more ‘box’ stitching you refer to here, while the Forclaz is way lighter and has the ‘tube’ style.
    Despite the Forclaz having more fill power, my OEX will be warmer because of the large box style stitching things, and that it’s just a thicker jacket. Is that correct?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Год назад

      Yes, correct. You're unlikely to feel a huge difference between 700 and 800 fill power in identical jackets, but you will notice over twice the physical amount of down.

    I just bought a pillow with an inner chamber of 1000 power fill white polish goose down and an outer chamber of 700+ Eiderdown, which is of course higher quality than the 1000 goose down. I love it

    Recently I purchased the Patagonia down sweater hoody and i returned it in a couple of days. It fit me well, it was warm but I just couldn't keep it because I was always terrified of tearing it due to the outer shell being so thin and quite fragile looking. As far as durability goes, down jackets just seem to be the worst in my opinion.
    But again, I was surprised how warm and also breathable the jacket was.

      There are quite a few down jackets available with tougher outer fabrics. Mountain Equipment's Lightline, for example, has a pretty hefty outer fabric. It's not equivalent to a Down Sweater, but just as an example. Harry

    Interesting you say the UK uses the US measurement for down fill power. I just assumed we use the European measurement as many websites go on about how European down is better quality at the same fill power as the US.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  2 года назад +1

      It's very brand dependent unfortunately.

    • @danielcanovas341
      @danielcanovas341 2 года назад +1

      Most UK brands use US measurements because it produces higher numbers with the exception of mountain equipment. Generally speaking the difference is 30 to 50 fill power.
