This is EXCELLENT - nobody else has shown how to use a dial caliper as you have to make a key. Should have "zeroed" it first, but it was "close enough for government work" - after all, you made a working key! Many thanks.
THANK YOU !!! had no idea the measurements have been available, and with them and your additional tips (re SQUARE file and caliper) hours of work and frustration shrunk into minutes :)
Excellent Excellent Video. You are a very good instructor. I've been wanting to learn how to do that and with your video I am going to give it a try. Thanks
Between this video and another one with a key cutter, not to be confused with code cutter, I think I can re-pin and code cut keys hopefully without having to spend 1700.00 for the Blitz Code Cutter I want.. Thanks for making this video.
lol... ok .. if you're looking for at a Blitz, then you have locksmith interests. IF thats the case, every locksmith needs that machine. if you dont have one, you wont get out of your own way doing crap like this.
you should remove tips of the cut peaks that are not needed so you don't lift every pin to a zero cut when inserting the key. (the key should be only as tall as the shallowest cut)
I was wondering about that. I suppose that having MORE key, makes it stronger, maybe that is why they don't remove all of the un-needed peaks. However, I also assume that without those peaks, the key would slide in and out MUCH easier and do less wear on the pins.
Nice video, but it's easier than that. Over 18 years ago, our AC service man broke the roof-access key off in the lock. I was able to extract the piece. I took it to a local store in the same shopping complex. They had the right blanks but couldn't cut the key because they had the newer type machine where the original and blank keys are inserted into a "receiver" much like a real lock. They were afraid they couldn't extract the piece and weren't willing to try. They gave me a blank. I traced the broken piece onto the blank with a fine tip sharpie. Filed it by hand with just a leatherman tool in less than five minutes, and it worked first time.
LMAO I FEEL THAT. Even tho i don't blaze anymore this is definitely a video i would have watched. Im here now bc no one can cut a fucking key right anymore such bullshit
Pretty good for using hand tools I'll admit but terrible use of a caliper, at best the surfaces aren't flat and probably +/-.01in-.005in Haha there's no way your getting close to the numbers from the table although the key did work just fine. I wonder what the tolerance is? Could you have printed the cutout shape on a piece of paper then used that to color the rest of the key as area to not cut instead of a huge marker and scribe line?

thanks for the info, great video!. the sound of the file though. I love it!
File the top points down so the cylinders Rolls over each segment nicely
Can't we just trace the original key on blank then file the pattern precisely? Just curious to know if it can work that way also.
yea, and what if you dont have the original

concordo com você em parte, não tanto quo o corte raso, as vezes os cortes são todos rasos.

@@FusionDeveloper You are correct. However some bittings require the tips to keep it in the lock while locking or unlocking

Luke Bockman usually keys stop working between .011 and .004 inches off. depends on the lock.
Sc1 key blank
We will cut you one for 1.70$ 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

It would be faster to search for "how to make a key using locksmith tools"
