Thank you so much. I'm 5'7, 245 lbs. I'm also a meatball. I'm built to push, and conventional deadlifts have always been my bane. I thought I couldn't conventional deadlift so I stuck to the trap bar for years. While Pendlay rowing, I noticed bending my knees more helps me get lower. I can only accomplish that by having the bar out further.
My height is 175cm and my arm is 170cm, this makes deadlift extremely difficult for me, I have to put my thighs at a 90 degree angle in order to have neutral back position, and it is so easy for me to injure my lower back, thank you for the video and it helps
I feel you bro.. I am around 172 cm and my reach is around 168 cm. Deadlift was always a big problem for me.. It ruins my total in weight class for at least 50-70 kg to be competitive
"meatball built lifters".... Oh hey it's me, this is exactly what I need. I have been sumoing for 7 years due to A) back injury and B) unreasonably short arms. Sumo just feels better, but I wanna conventional again. Though personally I refer to myself as a strong potato, not a meatball haha
For myself, nordics, round back stiff legs, and sumos have been huge movers. Currently running a block of HEAVY back raises - will report the resutls once they become apparent.
I have short arms but long legs, likely due to body dysmorphia and not eating enough during teenage years. It's so hard setting up for deadlifts right now. Everytime I thought my form is correct and perfect, it looks like shit in the video afterwards lmao.
so most deadlift setup videos are just objectively terrible and only apply to a specific physical build basically, no one built like you or me can do the normal cues
I have long legs, no hips, average torso, longish arms, and tiny hands, at 5 foot 10. It makes deadlifting hard, which is a shame, 'cos my lower back is bulletproof (touch wood). People look at me and say "you're built to deadlift", but I wonder. If the bar brushes your balls in compression shorts, are you really built to deadlift?
As a fellow short armed meatball, another awkward exercise for us is barbell shrugs. The bar hits... somewhere... over and over again. 🥴
Tried cable pull-throughs once and never again. That’s an exercise short armed dudes literally can’t do.
I much prefer a hex bar shrug for this exact reason...
This is so truee😂

This was actually really helpful. Thanks deadlifting dwarf! 😉❤
PS I’m built almost exactly like you.
Meatball Gang ✊

Exactlyyyyy my case
shorty checking in:D
Hello thank you for this video.
Great info
Thanks for the video. This lift has always been my least favorite. 28inch sleeve length and a big midsection. It hurts to get into the position
Ah, the plight of the meatball 😅

Are there any specific variations or accessory work you would recommend for a fellow short arm deadlifter
For myself, nordics, round back stiff legs, and sumos have been huge movers. Currently running a block of HEAVY back raises - will report the resutls once they become apparent.
@@dr.sethalbersworth Do you feel the heavy back raises paid off? I saw you killed your last meet!

It can be genetics too look at your parents or any relatives arms and if they have shorter arms too then it could be that

If you lock out at the ball level your arms prolly aren't long compared to your torso, suggesting not super favourable leverages.
