I only installed the Perrin AOS and I frankly have the same thing to say about their non cosmetic modifications. The cosmetic items fit well and look good because they're easy but the serious add-ons always have the "We need to cut that?" "We need to put this under what?" "We are cutting what?" moments during the install process.
Regarding the hose kinks, if you ever want some hard pipes, I have a pipe bender and small diameter bead roller for 1/2 inch OD pipes (looks about right size for those oil lines). I have made some parts out of steel and aluminum tubing.
I don't know if you have many plans for car builds and such besides for the ones you already have. But, it would be cool to see you build a turbo legacy in some shape or form. Just an idea.
instead of using a cutting wheel I would use a step bit and drill two holes big enough for the hoses and then put a rubber grommet type things in each hole to keep the hose safe
Another great vid! I thought that the Subaru NA engines called for 0W-20 and the Turbos were 5W-30 oil? At least that's what it's supposed to be on my 2017 2.0XT Touring Forester. I've actually had to get my Subaru dealership to re-do an oil change service because they put in 0W-20 when the owners manual calls for 5W-30 and it's also written on the Oil Fill plug. (Note: used dealership for oil change due to keeping the car under warranty.)
That step of having to cut into the metal near the radiator IMO is a big minus for Perrin. Why not provide long oil lines or something that doesn't require such a permanent alteration? Mods should be 100% reverseable unless absolutely necessary
Sheesh, the highest my oil temp got this summer in CT was 220. Then again I wasn’t beating the absolute shit out of it, but I also wasn’t just putting around by any means
Good shit man and those wheels looks dope asf‼️ just sold my ‘20 STI a couple weeks ago and I’m already going down the modding rabbit hole with the m240i😅
I went with Import Image Racings Noble Performance wheel spacer they have been solid so far i've had no issues, keep in mind doing the proper torque spec, and the studs on the spacer cracked my wheel lock which is great for me maybe not you because I hate oem wheel locks, having been employed as a subaru lube tech
Dammit Tanner, you just cost me another $700-800! I noticed my '21 FA oil temps running hot under spirited driving since day 1. Looking at the Mishimoto kit due to the direct fit at the bottom of the bumper so there shouldn't be any interference with my HELLOOOOO horns. Curious whether you'd recommend thermostatic or non-thermostatic? Seems like it might make sense to keep the factory oil cooler plumbed in?
Tanner, I am Once again asking for the song that you used for the intro. (I also asked about this song I think last year or 2 years ago when your worked on the Hatch, but I think you forgot to do so...)
Subaru in Japan offer 5w30 as an "upgrade" at service time. And I've seen my temp (FA24) up to 107c with outside temp around 10c with spirited driving through the twisties. I'm wondering if I'll need additional cooling come the summer (30c+).
My '16 wrx oil temp never exceeds 205 degrees even when leaning on it, but an oil cooler never hurts. Tuner told me not gun it til it hits 180 degrees or it will spin a rod bearing. FA20 is finicky😢
@@eliezergutierrez2472 you have to get the oil as hot as it gets so you don't blow the turbo and bearings. The oil and coolant work together to keep the engine right. Otherwise giving a pull is suicide
To a degree, yes, but there is still a ton of surface area for air to freely flow to the Rad. 🙏 the airpassing through the intercooler and oil cooler will also still pass through the rad as well
I guess I missed the part where Matias got kicked out of the house... Where's your boy? What happened to the colab? ...ooo, what wheels are for the RX-7??!!??
This kit would be 100 times better if the hose length was 8-12 inches longer and you mounted the cooler on the passenger side, therefore reducing the strange bend in the line and making things easier to route without cutting the frame. Hire me perrin ill do a better job.
As a Subaru old timer. I never buy Perrin anything. Their products always have fit issues and are not well thought-out. There are better options for the price.

I figured because I have their FMIC the oil cooler would work without major modifications but oh I was wrong 😅
Are there any brands that are known for being the opposite? Because you’re bang on about Perrin.
@louisthibault555 IAG and ETS are much better and work with the car instead of against it.
So this is how a oil cooler can be installed. Awesome :)
Always appreciate the honest reviews 🚗💥💨🔥

Yes, I really like it. It fits and works like it's supposed to.
Regarding the hose kinks, if you ever want some hard pipes, I have a pipe bender and small diameter bead roller for 1/2 inch OD pipes (looks about right size for those oil lines). I have made some parts out of steel and aluminum tubing.
I think after seeing that install one should invest in a hole saw bit for that frame mod that has to be done.
I ordered a hole saw kit lol
amazing tutorial! appreciate the honesty as well.

Doing a 1960s car here soon that I've been wanting to do for a hot while 👀

That's not a bad idea actually 👀🔥
A tip to getting that bumper on a lot easier! Is trimming that little plastic edge/piece near where the fmic sits.. it’s much easier bro!
Doing that next time I take it off, that thing gets hung up on there every time 😂
Using a hole saw would be easier and cleaner to cut the support.
I need to buy a hole saw kit 😅
@@Smeedia please do lol
Been curious about these front mount oil coolers. Seems legit👍🏼! Great video Tanner!
They work great 🥳 I like that this one dosent take up a ton of space
Check out the Big Mouth ram air. Works perfectly with the Perrin. The mishimoto oil cooler is not compatible.
I'll take a look at it 🫡
Brackets and Perrin engine oil mount area looks identical to the EE20Z Diesel!!, think this oil cooler would fit on my forester directly!

You can get plastic hose wrap for hydraulic lines and use that on the rub spots. That shits money. I call it snake wrap.
I think I actually have some of that? 👀
They make stuff called “edge guard” it’s for electrical wires crossing sharp metal edges.

100% agree with this, I was going to just make my own lines but the core is way more fine of threads than a standard 10AN pitch
Hopefully Perrin looks at this video and could maybe redesign the oil cooler.
Fingers 🤞

Mishimoto makes a oil cooler for 22-23 wrx it's a lot easier to put on.
Googling it now to see it 😅
Sounds like you've installed it... if so, how's the fit and finish on the kit?
The mishimoto setup looks loads better, as someone said mods should be reversible... you shouldn't need to be hacking up brackets and body parts
Good shit man and those wheels looks dope asf‼️ just sold my ‘20 STI a couple weeks ago and I’m already going down the modding rabbit hole with the m240i😅
How you liking it so far? I've seen some good things on em!
I can’t stand the rear end of the new m240’s. And that’s coming from a VB owner lol
Quad tips and a slightly larger lip spoiler does quite a bit for the rear end! I was surprised at the difference.@@PsunnProductions
17:10 new shoes???? Ooooo I likey 😍
They fit like butteerrrrrrr 🧈
Since the intercooler is now front mounted, couldn’t that oil cooler be mounted roughly where the top mount intercooler was and use the hood scoop?
Yes it can be, I've seen a few people do that 🫡
I wouldn’t feel comfortable cutting holes in brackets and supports, Perrin should have a better way of installing their kits.
awesome to see the conten! excited to see where this goes! what brand would you recommend for wheel spacers?
Faction fab or Perrin 🤝

Have you ever considered getting a Subaru Ascent and playing with that real state of engine bay? H6 there maybe?
Tbh the engine bays are not much bigger than a VA or VBs engine bay 😅

so for 15+ sti when you have the oil cooler. how many quartz of oil do you need to put or is it gonna stay at 4.5 quartz
Your normal oil pan capacity plus whatever the oil cooler holds.
You may need to drain the cooler seperare at times (just pop the line off)
