Stupid power for little mods, E30 Tuning my 2023 Subaru WRX

- Josh from Bader Built Racing is back in town and we are tossing the 2023 Subaru WRX Back onto the Dyno. (Yes the DYNO Works now). This time we wanted to toss some Ethanol into the WRX and I will say for only having an Intake, Downpipe, and Intercooler this car made stupid power for such little modifications. Huge Shout out to JR Tuned as well for jumping in with Josh as well to help get the WRX tuned and making some Jam!

23 WRX here. 373/407 on E50 and with only an intake on a mustang dyno. my tuner was able to push out the rev limiter though.
once Bader figures out the rev limiter this thing will be nasty!
Tanner and Bader, always a good time! Love the content!
Always a good time with Josh 🙌
Just need Devin and Remi to complete the NW bros😂
@@john-danielmartin8753 waiting for Tanner to move to Spokane…..
Right getting all 4 of them together be amazing
On 93 with an ets intake, fmic, and awe touring catback, in 90F and 70% humidity at sea level last July on a dynojet with smoothing at 5 and a 1.03 CF I made 320/360 on 18 psi tapering to 13 with StiMikey. After a few revisions and in the cooler weather with boost at 20 psi tapering to 15, I’m making 335/375. Some say he’s hotter on timing than the average tuner but not dangerously. I’ve sent logs to several tuners for second opinions just got a peace of mind and everyone commfirms that his reputation precedes him and I’m in good hands. I honestly rather have less cylinder pressure at wot than less timing and more cylinder pressure. This engine is stout, it’s the transmission that’s the fault in the drivetrain. With a j pipe and some headers I’d make 375/400 on 93, and probably 400+/425+ with some ethanol and a couple more psi while still being conservative. He’s the goat.
The two greats in the Subaru RUclips community! This is so great 🔥
Man, I really love what you've done to bring the new WRX model to life and make it look sick in the process. Those wheels are killer! I was very skeptical at first when this car came to the channel, but you've done a fantastic job with it. Also, Bader seems to be in a really good mood for this video, what'd you do to him lmao! 🙃🥳
Josh always in a good mood when we tuning 😅 I was suuuuuuuper skeptical of them T first. They’ve grown on me quite a bit
It's about time, sheesh I've been waiting since yesterday, GOSH😅
well its uploaded lmao
Ive set at 330whp for 2 years now, no complaints for a perfect wrx👍🏼or summer daily
Great video T!
That 330-350 mark is a really sweet place for a daily 🔥
@@Smeediawhat is stock WHP in these?
probably 220-230 @@matthewwain9958
Got tuned last week by snail performance, and I’m making 349whp on 91 and a mustang dyno. 401whp on e30. This 23 wrx rips 🤙
I can't even get ethanol around here, so 91 tune would be great for 350whp. (I put 93 in my car so having it tuned at 91 is good for safety for me).
Good job Bader. This tune really builds respect with understanding limitations. Might have to find a trailer that can haul 2 cars to you. Smeedia, looks good. Looking forward to the STI trans swap.
Josh always kills it with these things. We always learning more and more so things always getting better and better 🙌
Happy new year Tanner and Josh Bader. Both of your channels are 🔥. Love ya both. I am really enjoying being a part of the STI club. 😊. Subies forever.
Happy new year Paul 🔥 always appreciate the support my mans 🙌
Wow perfect timing. I found and started binge watching your channel yesterday through this morning!
Eyyyyy perfect timing 🙌🙌
@@Smeediatruly. I'm glad I found your channel man. I'm retiring the mechanic life after 27 years and pretty much hating cars, 10 years after owning an 04 sti you've got me seriously thinking about getting back into one. Not sure if I should thank you or.....lol
Im not an expert tuner or the one tuning your car, I'm sure anything I say on the topic is gonna piss somebody off however not sure I by into the 3rd vs 4th gear thing. If the car is knock sensitive in 4th gear tuning in 4th would keep you inside those limits, for example my tuner tuned in 4th, FA20, 93, Turbo back and intake made 292 and 280 on mustang dyno. Told him it was my daily and to keep it reliable. 3 years later and 45,000 miles with yearly drives to Ohio and South Carolina 12-16 hours I have experienced no knock or dam drop. Its your car and bader is the tuner but now paying closer attention.... some people are running 3rd others are running 4th so comparing numbers people are putting out isnt as straight forward. I figured e tuners do 3rd gear because its easier to find space for a full 3rd gear than it is a 4th gear, not to mention physically safer to ask the customer to accomplish. Alright, peeps fire away with all your insults for asking a legit question to an answer that doesn't quite make sense. 🤔
A lot of shops have fans can’t flow enough air to simulate a true 4th gear pull. Hence the 3rd gear pull
16:32 interesting that a piggyback controller for supplemental port injection might be forthcoming. Also dual or port injection mitigates issues with soot accumulation on valves and inside crankcase, as well can mitigate if ECU programmed to do so the fuel accumulation in the oil, which can otherwise be catastrophic. Dual injection can be tuned to favor the port injection until the engine warms up, which is essentially for averting fuel accumulation on too many routine short trips, which maybe you guys are not thinking about given the high performance focus.
This is such an awesome channel.
❤❤❤
So cool to see where you and Josh started, and to see where you guys are at.
One day at a time 🙌🫡
I just got my block and can’t wait to get it tuned by bbr❤. Love the rims
That power of something so simple is ridiculous. I like that it's simple things that shouldn't cause reliability issues.
Things been a solid unit so far. Super happy with the results from such little mods 🔥
19:30 "Vape Speak"
Dude! thats some killer numbers! Cant wait to see some baby blue numbers now!
Blue should be on the rollers early feb. adding a few things to make some more power
Dang ! Hella good gains dear lord I'm excited thats great my happy place right around 350 hp perfect my opinion
Puts the car in a really good spot for a daily where it’s useable power that’s fun to play with 🙌
320 would be perfect for me. I’m already happy with stock. It’s all about midrange with this car. It whips. First gear is way too short. I start in second gear a lot.
My audi started today, i bypass pin65 and she starts, cars hasn’t ran in 9 years my buddy gave up and donated to myself. Feels amazing, gotta move the gr wrx sti out to go for a test drive. Now have to figure out why the ecu is not powered without the bypass. Your WRX is 🔥, I would love to try your builds your creations seem so tight!! Right On!!🎉
Eyyyyyy good to hear 🥳 how’s it running after sitting for so long?!
Such a good video. 🔥
Hope them cops be leaving you alone my mans 😅🙌
I’m watching all the content on this VB because mine is the same year, trim and colour. I’m taking notes.. Thanks for the awesome content!!

300 sounds like a perfect amount for a daily wrx.
I've already started my 300hp piggy bank 😎
Please tell me it’s an actual piggy bank 😅
@@Smeedia It's sadly a jar with a picture of the wrx on it!
Same same 😅
300-320 hp is what I'm shooting for as well. Would make a great daily driver with reliable power.
Tanner use rosewood oil on your scalp 2 times a day. Might help with your hair lose. Josh can try it also.
That sounds like so much fun, super cool for a daily
Thing feels great 🔥🙌
Recently got a 2010 wrx sti hatch because of you
Great job on your 23 WRX, That thing rips, should go like Jack the Bear! Really enjoy your video's, keep up the good work!
Color match flairs and all the goodies you put on make the VB look 💯
Looks WAY better with it all 🙌
Remember months ago when you first got it and said you were not going to mess with it too much because you wanted it as your daily? 😂😂😂
I think the majority of your viewers (myself included) kinda knew you were lying to yourself ❤😂
I try to not do things but I get bored with them after a while. Then it’s just a downward spiral 😂
Just got a 2023 and ran into same limiting issue😢 can’t wait til that’s resolved tho 😮 she’ll rip regardless
Man that’s nuts how much throwing some ethanol gas in there just makes a world of difference over pump gas. I definitely gotta stay away from the ethanol. I know I’d enjoy it too much and break something. 😂
Make the switch you won't regret it
Pretty good with so little modifications.
David
Not too shabby 🙌
Beautiful work

The fa 2.4 puts out good power numbers for just a couple bolt on's. The carbon build up on the valves will be a issue later on though.
With any direct injection car that’s always an issue, not too bad to clean though. Walnut blast or Subaru offers an induction service that works well too
Its not bad like the FA20 was, ive been tuned on E30 for over a year now on mine, my catch can has less than an ounce of blow by in it.
GIVE.US.MORE!
I want to see what it traps, that will really tell the tale of how much power.
We should have 1 or two tracks days with it here soon once they open up 🙌
Can you give us suggestion on a down pipe for it that won’t cause the check engine. I must of missed that video.
Thank you!
ETS for me, 0 check engine lights with it
"As long as it drives home" That's a big ask for a modded WRX.
Lol
The dyno also seems to be pretty low reading… my ‘22 dynoed right at 300/340 with an intake and tune on a mustang dyno. Peak hp at 5500 rpm
Is this one reading low, or was that one reading high? 👀
@@Smeedia you should do a VD of your VB. Honestly its way easier to do a baseline. The one I was on reads pretty normal for the area. My problem with dynos is they can be calibrated to read anything. Using a VD is way easier to show the calibrations are the same across different locations/cars.
I hate the LACK of turbo from the exhaust. Even with both cats out you barely get any turbo noise out of it. A half modded VA gets a shit ton in comparison.
On a side note, on 93 I'm making 330-350 awhp and 350-370 awtq. I have a feeling you're making even more than what this graph is saying.
The VB is really growing on me. And all I keep seeing are silver ones with no color matched cladding.
I think the silver ones are the most sold color. That’s all I see as well 😅
I've got a VB and you can make them look pretty good with about 3k but the OEM accessories are too expensive
Was like not again!!! When you said problem with traction control problem …. 😂😂😂 every time you come off that dyno bro my fingers are crossed
Luckily we been pretty solid as of lately 😅
@@Smeedia long may that be brother I’m rooting for ya all the from New Zealand do us suby fans proud WOOOW✌🏽👌🏾
Nice results. Tons of valuable information by master toooooner Bader himslef🚀🌛

@@Smeedia hell yeah 💪🤭
I bet this FA24 can make way more and easier power than the ej, mod for mod. This car with a custom rotated kit and a 6870 👌🏾
I think you should get back one and push to the limit
so much torque for a 4 cylinder
400 ft lbs not bad for a few bolt ons and a little E
fr@@Smeedia
Hey Tanner!!! I bought my WRX a few months ago and wondered if you work on other people's cars. I live in the Seattle area, and I'd like a similar look to your car
Maybe with just ETS intake n e85 protune, Im thinking 370hp n 390TQ. These new WRX are power hungry. Im sure some of the top manufacturers are coming out with different transmission stages to hold different power, these newer WRX are being tune and developing with different pro tuners.
The problem with the trans is not the gearset unfortunately. The case of the transmission is a split case which causes lots of flex in the gears. We would need a whole new aftermarket case.
Tbh the only options to keep the trans in tact is either build the or 6 speed (wouldn’t recommend) or swap an STI driveline into it
Sweet gains
Thing did surprisingly well 😅
FA24 is king
Got that BBR Sauce ❤️
Spicey for what it is 🔥🔥🔥
Hims sponsorship incoming 👀
Best video to date!
🫡🙌🫡🙌
As much as I love the VA look, the VB platform is by far the better option if looking to make power for the amount you'd spend.
Really solid bang for your buck with the Fa24 🔥
FA24 = potential!
Definitely has the potential 🙌
Ez30 content also do the ets quick spool with the garrett g30 900. Lets see some garrett numbers
I’m sure keeps will sponsor a video for you 😂 mine is just turning grey
Need to keep the hair 😂
Yet another video proving how capable the fa24 is with so few mods. It kills me they didnt give us a version with the sti trans
NICE!
🙌🙌🙌🙌
18:11-18:22 is freakin hilarious 😂
I’m short got dammit😂
I’m in the same boat as well. 😢
Pretty good numbers for a fa24! The new platform is impressing me heaps 👀 kinda want one lol 😂😅
They really ain’t bad! This is where I’d stop though for power if you want to maintain any sense of reliability with the stock trans lol
I got a TR two weeks ago for 4+k under MSRP. They aren't selling very well because of all the STI and back bumper hate, this is the best car I've ever driven. I have as few more thousand miles before I feel safe enough to tune it, but I have the TMIC, exhaust, charge pipe, CAI, AOS, and oil cooler ready for install for when I do get it tuned. 350/380-400 is my goal, will be saving up for an STI swap in a couple years when it's time to get spicy again.
can i swap this fa24 engine on my 2017 wrx fa20 manual
Exhaust setup? This sounds pretty good. I’m just not used to elh sounds yet.
ETS J pipe with an AWE touring catback 🫡
So 359 WHP with mods? What's the stock WHP? And for comparison what's the stock HP for an STI (2015+) and with mods?
You should keep it till you can go rotated on it and push it to see how far it can go
At that point it needs a STi Trans Swap, port injection controllers, full fuel system etc. IMO it’s not worth spending the $$$ on it
HELLS YEAH!!!!!
😎👍🏻👍🏻
TOM 🙌🙌🙌
Makes me want to get some goodies and a tune on my 22’ wrx
Do ittttttt 👀👀👀
@@Smeedia need $$$
Here
JOEEEEE MY MANS
how much on a turbo back exhaust/pro tune alone?
Loving it!! Are those figures wheel horse power or BHP?
Also, when are you getting the EJ33 back on the dyno for a proper power run? 😎
WHP 🫡
And early feb. making a couple changes either it for more power
time to see what Blue is actually making? huh? yea? you know you wanna
Early Feb it’ll be back on the rollers 🙌 adding a few things for more sauce 🤫
Is there a blow-off valve on this car? I hear a kind of hiss when changing gears.
Time to hit up awais on the leads bro you don't need a kidney you need port injection 😂
😂😂😂I like my kidneys😂
Hey Tanner, any thoughts on an Odyssey PC680 lightweight battery for a daily driver? I really like that Mele battery mount you use but can’t find reliable reviews stating if that battery is good for a daily
It seems to be a suuuuper hit or miss battery. The full throttle ones I’ve used seem to work a bit better
@@Smeedia I’ll take a look at one of those, thanks man! Loving all the content lately btw!
Warning lights turn off?
This is nice :)
I still haven’t updated my AP for the green speed update 🤣🤣
Don’t matter if you do, your AP won’t change and you’ll still have all your old maps. Greenspeed effected access tuner, the software tuners use.
Emtron> Cobb all night all day everyday
Accurate statement
making me want one
Never too late 👀👀👀👀
what wheels are these was looking at work emotions for my va but the rolling shots on the dyno got me reconsidering
also do you need a flex fuel sensor for e30???
These are work emotions 😅 they’re the D9R. And no flex sensor needed just need a tune for it
@@Smeedia I dug into your old videos ordered a white pair for my red va also thank you !!!
Mr. Smeedia. What % tint is that?
Just wondering why Direct injection is more limiting than Port?
Similar to port injection. They can only flow so much. With port injection you can at least swap the Injectors
Go to throttle tables thy limited the rav
l have same 2023 WRX l love those wheels, what kind are they?
Work emotion D9Rs 18x9.5 +38 🫡
I commented on one of your older videos, but I was curious to know if I would need a tune to run an external blow off valve on a EJ platform
Technically speaking No, safely and properly I would advise it.
I don’t really suggest BOVs, unless your tuned in speed density
@@Smeedia I’m still learning but I feel like you’re a top tier professor in this category. I’m doing simple bolt ons (intake, catback, Cobb, and was contemplating protune) so I didn’t know if this would hurt me or not. Stock motor 123k miles
@@Smeedia not going for crazy HP. This will be my daily to work. Just want a little fun with all the sounds.
2022 😎😎😎😎😎😎
So..... When is the bigger turbo, secondary injectors, and josh doing a moon tune.
Idk if we are going to go that far 😅 gets $$$$ quick lol
@@Smeedia bro just get a daily for you daily, that was for you daily, that replaced your other daily.
This guy should tune my VB. I wonder if he is taking new clients.
Pretty sure he’s got openings 👀
@@Smeedia Where is he based?
Is in Spokane Washington. I think Josh charges 1000 for Dyno and last I checked data log street tuning was closed. Just call BBR
did your traction control light go back off after ?
Curious as well as to what caused it.
During the pull, looking into what is causing it. It’s causing the VDC system to get upset
My old tv looks good on the wall
It’s so nice to have up there 😅
@@Smeedia yes I told them it will help out and to have the wireless keyboard so you don't need a second person to start the dyno
Thats weird my 2023 rev limit is raised to 6500 i wonder why yours cant be increased
It also depends on power, the reason ours was coming down more and more is because of a requested torque table. So the more your making the lower it will bring the redline. When we were making less power we were around that 6500/6500 mark as well
Just sti 6 speed swapped mine 😊
How you liking it so far? STI Trans is 🤌
@@Smeedia Feels awesome! I'm still waiting on the dccd kit from iwire to make it complete.
Love the gains on the car, but I get the feeling yer gonna sell it. I could be wrong 😞
I will in a few months, it was never supposed to be a car I kept long term. Just to play with the Fa24 a bit. I personally do not want to spend the $$$ STi swapping the trans, adding port injection ETC. still have some other stuff I’ll be doing with it until then though
Are the 22 models limited to 6400 rpm too
From what I’ve seen the 22s can be manipulated to reach out to 7500 RPM
Are the rest of the blue brothers getting tuned this week
Unfortunately no 😢 the Hawkeye needs a couple things to come in.
Blue was going to go on today but ran into one small issue with the crank sprocket so waiting on a replacement to come in. So both will be going on early Feb
Curious why you did e30 vs e85?
Drop Fuel pressure, the OEM HPFP doesn’t take to full E85 kindley
COBB 👏 GIVE 👏 MORE 👏 RPM 👏
MOREEEEEEEE
Will the stock DI support e85 if it has enough fuel pump
Yes but the HPFP struggles will full E85. Nostrum makes an aftermarket replacement
@@Smeedia I'd like to see what they can do max effort on a stock turbo
What was the dyno problem ?
Load calculations were wrong when it was set up. There’s a physical weight sensor that was not fully calibrated properly
Thanks that make sens. But odd it took so long to figure out from Mustang
