Oh my gosh...how could anyone take issue with your last reaction? It was great, and you were very positive. I'm a Disturbed fan and I found absolutely nothing wrong with your reaction. And...it's YOUR reaction. Even if you hated it, it's YOUR thoughts, feelings and opinions. Their negative comments are more evidence of the truth in these lyrics.

David Draiman won't do anything in the studio that he can't do as well live. He always sounds amazing. Thank you for your style of reactions. We love them all! Also, please do Hold on to the Memories by Disturbed...it's not a screaming one. 😊

David Draiman is a professionally trained Hazzan. Jewish version of the catholic Cantor. He spent many years training/leading and solo work. He does have a beautiful voice. Love listening to him sing this song!

I’m not a metal fan, but this performance opened my eyes to David Draimon’s amazing talent. A song he wrote that is very powerful regarding mental illness is “Reason to Fight”. Worth checking out

While his voice is classicly trained, he also works with a world renowned Metal/Rock vocal coach. I'm impressed how effortlessly he transitions in and out of the distortion, with such power and control. So glad you enjoyed it.

Saw him at Ozzfest in Lubbock circa 2004ish. He bummed a lighter off of my little group. He was belting out along with the band playing at the moment. I couldn't even tell you who it was because he was so amazing. Just singing, standing in the grass beside us. About an hour later Disturbed took the stage. He was as awesome just standing outside in the night as he was on stage as he is in the studio. It was absolutely badass.

The Sound of Silence was written by Paul Simon in 1961. The meaning of the song is a warning regarding the dangers of TELEVISION.. shut up and believe what they say on TV. Don't think for yourself, don't demand the truth, mindless dribble.
The true greatness of any song is when it's relevant and true, even 60 plus years later.
Disturbed has created what should be our new National Anthem, absolutely chilling and oh so pertinent today.
I was 11 yrs old in 1961 and know how fantastic television was then. Most people had black and white, color tvs too expensive for the working class. No cable TV, no videos, 3 or 4 channels that captivated our world. Now look at us, woke and destructive and dismissive.
What a sad lot we turned into.
God Bless and be better y'all.

Hi! I'm sorry you had others being rude about your previous reaction to Disturbed's Sound of Silence. I'm glad that, despite your experience, you've given the live version it's own reaction. This is definitely my favorite. Even though David Draimon was sick, his voice is pure heaven to hear.
I also enjoyed your interpretation of the lyrics. Every time I hear this song I'm seeing/feeling another level of meaning to the words, so it was awesome that your own has altered/grown over time.
Thank you for sharing your time, your interpretation, and your kindness.

For a song that was released in late 1965 as a warning this version shows the anger felt for the warning not being listened to and it is so prophetic about the times we are living in.

I watched both of your Disturbed reactions, beginning to end, and appreciate them both. You put a lot of thought and care into your reactions, as well as a lot of insight, based on your background. Thank you for taking that time. The people that throw shade your way, are part of the problem with nowadays - short attention spans have ruined so much. People like you...and myself...are a dying breed, Josh. But our time has not passed yet. Keep doing things as you do. With that out of the way, while I am a massive Disturbed fan, I can respect the fact that you're not into heavy metal, or any of its offshoots. Personally, I can listen to basically anything, given the right mood, but I know that a lot of people aren't that way; nevertheless, I'm not bothered. However, to accommodate your more-selective tastes, might I recommend a reaction, by you, to the following Disturbed songs, if you're so inclined:
Hold Onto Memories (a personal favorite of mine)
    A Reason to Fight
    Already Gone
    Darkness
If I Ever Lose My Faith In You
    The Light
If I think of any others that I believe you might be more inclined to like, I'll mention them in the future. Thank you.

Thank you, for a well thought out reaction...I love to listen to other people's insight on song. I found the most informative ones are those of singers and producer. I would love to hear your break down of Hold on to Memories, Uninvited Guest, A Reason to Fight and Darkness, Some other covers they do are: Land Of Confusion (originally by Genesis), If I Ever Lose My Faith In You (originally by Sting), It would be nice to hear their songs reacted to. Reactions seem to stay with mostly only Sound of silence, Thanks for your time.

I second Uninvited Guest. Its a beautiful song. People hate on it because its not heavy. But... i dont always need to be pumped up, ready to murderfy my enemies. Sometimes i need to sit by their broken bodies and reflect on the thing that was taken from me that led to the battle in the first place. 😋 in seriousness though, its a haunting, beautiful song that really shows off his vocal talent.

Paul Simon liked this version so much that he told David Draiman that he had put Disturbed's song version on his personal Social Media accounts. I think this version actually fits better to the lyrics than Simon and Garfunkels. It is not a light and airy song it was giving us a warning way back in 1963 when it was written a short time after Kennedy's assassination.

Would you please check out the YT video of Pocol Harum doing Whiter Shade of Pale in Demark, live in 2006. It includes backing by a symphony and choir. I wouldn't worry too much about it man. Some people like a simple video where the watch a person listen to a song. Nothing wrong with that. Others, however, can and do appreciate a thoughtful breakdown by someone that knows what they are talking about. Thats why I watch guys like you, I like to learn. Oh and yes David's voice is great live or studio. He was trained as a cantor for many years and has amazing control of his voice.

Ok...I’m kind of taking this song to heart amd pushing the “hold on to the memories“ video for selfish reasons. I lost my 27 yo daughter 4 yrs ago, and my Mom passed away Thursday, so life is short, and people need to appreciate EVERY MOMENT! I have to turn away now and watch hold on to the memories and have a good cry. God bless each and every person that sees this post. We all need to try to live our BEST LIFE! And touch as many people wirh love and kindness that we can. No one ever knows what may be causing pain behind the person that you pass anywhere you go. It’s much easier to be kind and smile, than act like a creep and the whole world owes YOU something. No. It doesn’t. And always remember, you reap what you sow. If you greet people with negativity and hatred, that’s all you will get in return. Love and respect act as boomerangs - I love it when one whacks me in the head! It means I’m doing something right! SMILE! 😄 IT FEELS GOOD!
    AND, IT’S CONTAGIOUS!!!

This is one of my favorite performances ever. I loved hearing your thoughts and interpretation - it’s the first video I’ve seen from you! So my apologies if you’ve done this before, but as a fellow male singer (and I know you said you’re not interested in rock or metal quite as much), I’d love to know your thoughts about Freddie Mercury, who was vocally untrained but somehow eventually ended up doing an opera album later in life, haha.
He’s definitely an anomaly, and did essentially every genre. His performance of “Somebody to Love” in 1981 is one of the best live vocal performances I’ve ever seen anyone do, and he kept getting up and down from the piano and moving around without any earphones to hear himself. It’s stunning! The whole concert is, in fact, as are countless more performances I could highlight. You may enjoy the opera (with rock and even gospel influence) songs he did with Montserrat Caballe in the late ‘80s, though note that the “live” performances (I’d recommend “Barcelona” and “The Golden Boy”) weren’t actually sung live - the only time Freddie didn’t actually sing live, aside from Top of the Pops, which didn’t allow it - as he was secretly ill with AIDS at that point and didn’t quite have the energy.
He could also sing in countertenor, which most don’t know. When putting together the opera album for himself and Montserrat (he essentially sat down and wrote 10 songs) he once sent her a demo of just a tune he’d come up with (no words yet) and sang her female operatic parts. She was stunned it was him and insisted on retaining the recording before they did eventually create a real song from it. “Exercises in Free Love”.

I don't know if you reply to comments but I have a question which you would probably be able to answer. I am not at all educated but I enjoy listening to voices, I have a "layperson" knowledge of singing techniques but mostly just enjoy listening to voices. So - I noticed that in this live version, David Draiman doesn't hold on to the "growls" as much as in the studio version. What amazes me is that when he doesn't do that (which may be due to his being sick on the day) the tones that he sings are so clean and bright (like "tenement halls"). I get impressed because I get the idea that this is a really skilled singer who knows his instrument very well and is able to make decisions. But I'm curious as to what is actually going on, technically ... I don't know if my questions makes sense but it appears to me that his voice is in some way "failing" (like he doesn't have the strength to keep it going, sort of what you mentioned that he seems to take in more breaths than he would probably normally do when being well) but it doesn't break - it sounds like it just seamlessly readjusts into being bright and tender.

Hi, new to you! Thank you for your analysis! One of my favorite things is when a band brings in an orchestra. With some songs, actually a lot of rock songs, because you think that is a strange pairing, it just adds in that extra full sound with all of the beautiful instruments. And with this particular song, it really punches the message home. And like you said, the placement of the orchestra within the song is critical and so well done. And balanced. The orchestra adds to David and he to them, nothing is taken away here, it is all balanced. And yes he was sick and running a fever as I recall, maybe a touch of a cold? An odd reminder and nod to Freddie Mercury and Live Aid. He was sick as well and still,as they say, “The Show Must Go On.” Again, thank you. ❤️

This! This comment is the Sound of Silence. Paul saw it before it existed. The sing waa about a vision. The collapse of personal relationships and personal communication. Diana Ankudinova has a new stellar performance for you to see. An arrangement of Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love. A lot of dissonance. Less of a love song than a spiral of obsession into madness. She shows off full head voice and seamless transitions as well as a new belt full of all the subharmonic/polyphonic witchery one has some to expect from her.

Enjoyed the reaction, Disturbed does little screaming, most of the time the lyrics are easily heard, recommend, The Light, If I ever lose my faith in you and Hold on to memories.

David was #DownWithTheSickness during this performance ,, they autotuned 1 note, ticked David off so much he got over it

I read on another reaction video of this video that they person wrote, the original by Simon and Garfunkel was a warning of where society was going. This version is the anger that the warning wasn't listened to.

I really REALLY enjoyed your reaction to previous/first time listening to Disturbed and their cover of this beautiful song. Continue making amazing content like this and while it can be difficult to completely ignore the rudely inconsiderate critics, continue being true to yourself, your channel and the “nay sayers” will weed themselves out.

There are times when silence is best. Ignore the noise from the negative Nancy’s. David doesn’t use autotune and he was very ill this night. Conan’s produces used it without his permission and he was very angry.

Love this version of the song so much, my families plays it a lot, enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this performance! Would love to see you react to some of Tyler Joseph's vocals from the band twenty one pilots, I think you might enjoy his 'live from Brooklyn' performance of their song 'My Blood', I love it even more than the original.

If you want another that shows off David's vocal abilities, check out his song "Reason to Fight" you would definitely love that one.

You have to know that David really was sick, when he made this performance. He had fever, the flu (that was the reason that he was sitting while singing).

I didn't hear you say if you thought this live performance was better than the video ... I love the video, but this one was simply incredible.
Are you able to tell me the name of that lovely intro music? It's got my heart :')
    Thanks for your reaction 👍❤️🙏

good reaction video dude! thanks for your honesty with your musical taste/preferences...not all music appeals to everyone...me personally, I've grown to appreciate/like the heavy stuff...musicians tend to have a lot of "crayons" in their box so that they can use whichever "crayon" whenever they're inspired to do so....Disturbed pulls this song off really well by being versatile and using their musical/instrumental gifts to inspire music fans everywhere....peace!

Don't let anyone get you down with your way of reacting. I'd post a link to the video your reacting to and in your intro tell people that there is a link to the video if they want to hear it without your breakdown and reaction. The whole reason to come to a reaction and analysis video is to hear the comments. As for future songs I hope you'll consider reacting to the light by disturbed. It's another of their songs that doesn't have screaming and really shows David's vocals off.
