Core is slightly brighter, but in a band situation they'd be indistinguishable. Never thought I'd want a Paul Reed-strat!
More content, prs se silver sky videos all day! :) Ill watch them all! thank you for these videos
The video Mary Spender did was amazing. I listened to it through good monitors and I couldn't tell a difference. Also, the John Mayer Video where he starts Lets just get this out of the way was Perfect.
I love watching y’all’s videos! Lee and Pete definitely have some competition!
Thanks, love y’alls humor :)
I was in no sense of the word thinking of adding another guitar to the stable. Now I've got the GAS itch... thanks SO much, Brian and Bradford. Thanks a bunch. :)
Yeah ordered the evergreen and I’m so excited 🌲
6:39 I was picking up what you were putting down there, Bradford. Fun video!
Y’all look like you had a lot of fun with this! It’s safe to say that almost any player would be happy with either of these options. Is there any chance y’all will do a hollow body comparison? Maybe Gibson/Epi/Other boutique brands?
Love the content. Keep up the great work guys!
I’m new to this channel. Definitely enjoying Christian Chappers & the Captain.
tbh, i love how the se interacts the gain. it's just so beautiful
finally a comparison that lays it down!
great shootout guys, thanks so much!
im keepin my moc sand core and not buyin an se!
Be a while before you’ll be able to get an SE SS at $400. Maybe never, but I still see other used SE’s for around $400 on a regular basis.
Frankly...we see a lot of these comparison videos and the question is usually "which is better?". I think the question really should be "what is the difference?" Both guitars sound very good and since we cant know how they feel the sound is simply a matter of personal preference. My 2 cents. Excellent video as usual, thanks
guys.
Thank you!
Also, the nuance and dynamics of its sound cannot possibly come across in a RUclips video, especially if you are sitting on the toilet on the phone. And the amp probably has a lot to do with the similarity in sound.
You need to add a blindfold to your list of equipment :) The Anderton's guys do that all the time
Rocking the JM g-watch👀
Very Well Done. This was wonderful. They both sound great to me. And Yes You need to add the blindfold as part of your equipment list. 😂
Please do one comparing the SE with a Fender strat
Core is a tad clearer, but it’s darn close. I own a core, SE in my future!
I heard a difference and I do like the sound of the core considerably better. They both sound great though and I would totally buy an SE over the Core just based on value. The core had more depth to it and roundness, the SE was slightly more brittle.
I agree. I've been watching a ton of RUclips video comparison on these guitars. I can tell a difference between the core and SE and prefer the core.... but I don't prefer the core so much that it's worth spending the extra $1650 on it. In a perfect world 1 day I can have 1 of each but for now I'm gonna pick me up a dragon fruit SE
@@drh7019 The SE is a better bang for your buck for sure, and they sound close enough it's not a big deal.
Congrats! they sound like a Fender Strat!!!!
Yep basically Player vs Elite. I’d say get the cheaper model and upgrade pickups.
It would seem at its price point; the SE is a real solid buy. Gone are the $400 days of SEs I suppose, although I haven't priced them lately.
I don’t think any are that low. Lowest may be $650 I think.
In all fairness, SE quality has come a long way since they were that cheap. Not that the price increase is 100% warranted, but a lot of it is.
This is great. Both great guitars, but to me the core just sounds better/higher quality.
Man, I would hope so with that price difference.
Bradford and that JM x Hodinkee G-SHOCK. I see you
WINNER. You got a modeler we make patches for? I was waiting for someone to mention it. I’ll send you a patch 😎
you all should invest in a blindfold or a piece of black fabric, anything! Something other than a hand for crying out loud lol. Thanks for the content
i prefer the warm se
Swap out the pick ups so we can get some closure on this!
For that price difference, it should be 3 out of 3. The price is 1 out of 3.
Torn between the silver sky and custom 24. Could you possibly do a video with both?!
We’ve done videos on both and talk about em in length. Check those out!
They’re so different from each other. Not even In the same ballpark
@@juka421 2 great ballparks though. It would be interesting to see a back to back comparison of how the 2 fit in the mix of a worship set.
I bet the feel is significantly different.
This is like the American version of Blindfolded Chappers lol, without the blindfold
Your fav colors of the SE Brian and Brad?
They sound identical, in a million years I could never accurately tell the difference
@SHDBRN They are not the same pickups. Check out any video where they take off the pickguard, you can immediately see that the SE pickups have an entirely different construction. They even have 12 pole pieces, unlike the US version and pretty much any traditional Fender-style single coil. Doesn’t mean they are bad, but they are totally different.
They’ve never said they are the exact same pickups. They’re clearly labeled as the ‘S’ version of the 635 JM pickups, meaning they’re voiced similarly but made overseas.
PRS does say (and we did in this video) that it is the same pickup in all three positions, meaning the neck, bridge, and middle pickups are the same 635 JM ‘S’ pickup - they didn’t make different ones for each position.
But nobody has said that the SE and the US made Silver Sky’s have the same pickups.
@@worshiptutorials I agree that they've been careful not to say very explicitly that the pickups are identical (besides the obvious factor of the SE version being made overseas), but I do think that PRS is somewhat guilty of confusing the matters when it comes to specs and implying things that are not true. Even on the US model, PRS has made a significant change to the pickups for 2021 with no announcement while still calling them "635JM". People who reached out to PRS for clarification received a response along the lines of "We didn't explicitly change them, but we did". Now for the SE version they've reused the same model number again, with an "S" qualifier, leading most people to believe that these pickups are made overseas, but to the same specifications as the original 635JM. Another example is the neck shape: they explicitly claimed it to be identical (calling it "635JM" without any further suffixes), but everyone who actually measured it found it to be substantially different. Giving PRS a benefit of the doubt, there were probably good reasons for these changes, but it would be better if PRS was more transparent about them. If anything, I'd love to learn what technical, tone or ergonomic considerations drove them to implement certain changes.
Who cares if a listener can tell the difference? It's the player who should be testing the guitar and see if he or she can hear or sense the difference. Choose the one that inspires you most.
which year is the core model from?
What were you playing through?
Hey I just noticed but is Bradford wearing John Mayer's G-shock watch that he released not too long ago ?
YUP 😎 was wondering how many people might notice haha
But how does each feel tho?
i prefer ethe warm se
I did a blindfold challenge like that once. The second one to me tasted like Pepsi.
Third🙇🏽♂️
what amp were you running into in this video?
This is Axe-FX iii. Fender Bassman (‘59) model.
The se sounds fuller clean but the core sounds better dirty
The green one (SE) looks so good in this video, and in others looks horrible haha
I think the only difference would be the build quality
Perhaps next time you could spring for $1.99 blindfold?
Ha perhaps. This was an idea we sort of had in the moment, so we didn’t have time to prep
i dont insta-face or tik-chat or none of that
I legit thought the se sounded better.
Why are you cover your ears when he switches guitars?
SECOND
No poplar for me
So, am I the only one that thinks the SE sounds better? I'm sure the USA feels better though.
Apparently the feel is also up for debate. I have a US Core model SS, but the neck is gloss/lacquer VS the Satin/natural SE neck. A lot of reviews have preferred the satin SE neck feel . Tbh it's the only thing that has me tempted to sell my Core SS and get one of these new SE models haha
@@eternalforce116 I do like a satin neck myself
What coffee is more expensive?
$6 Starbucks or $2 7-Eleven? just beans and water. Tone is in the fingers!
Offf. Wrong metaphor cause I can absolutely tell you the difference 😂😂😂
@@bmitchellmusic haha maybe it’s the Starbucks syrups you’re tasting! It was my attempt to say that I should focus on upgrading my skill (fingers), not gear. I battle with GAS :)
@@romeou4965 I drink my coffee black. Strike 2 ;)
No Bradford. No you cannot. Don’t lie…god is watching 😂
Did you watch the video tho? 😂
@@bmitchellmusic you did well but I think there was some collusion 😂
@@Tunanocrust1 Absolutely zero 😏
A great amp/effects unit makes the biggest difference. I don’t think either would sound great if you plugged them into a cheapo junky amp.
Firssssssssssssssssttttttt
both are over priced copies of a strat. the "SE" is made in the same factory as the fender Squiers
Of course he can’t tell the difference…
ever heard of a blindfold? hahahaa nice vid otherwise. I thought the core was clearer and more articulate. But doesn't make the SE a bad guitar, it just sounds different
