Started with 60 bpm which was very hard at first. Now 80 is very doable. Hopefully before this year ends 120 bpm will be a piece of cake. Just do it. ✅ Thanks Jared.
Great quality content as always. I recommended your videos to my students, and also I get a ton of ideas form you when I work with them. Great stuff man.
When I see players with alot of cymbals they inevitably have no idea how they can coax many different sounds from a cymbal. There's strikes from shoulder, tip and butt, there's slides, edge strikes, bell strikes, bell vibrato, choke catches, choked taps, rolls, etc. I would recommend to any drummer to sit with one cymbal in front of them and play it without the drums. Really figure it out alone as an instrument before you buy and throw up a bunch of cymbals to a drum kit. Then of course you can add different type, size & weight cymbals for the sound you want. But you're never going to convince me that you need as many as I see here.
The body will respond to your wishes with practice. Practice harder, but don't forget technique and do not continue if your wrists hurt. Forearms is ok, just muscle fatigue, but joint pain is a no-go. Good luck!
Over the last year I have watched many drumming videos on You Tube. This was one of the most helpful videos I have encountered. Thank you for this suggestion and for the exercise.
freakin AWESOME!! very helpful. i got a bit confused, at first i was letting both sticks strike 4 times, then i looked slower, & i think i see you doing all single stroke rolls. so it Is RLRLRLRLRL yes?
thats some good stuff man . im actually being serious. you have great feel, nice chops, a fantastic grasp on theory & application, good form , technique.....just really a well rounded drummer. However at the risk of dating myself In 1995 ,my high school drumline had a 95% exact warmup..........we capped out at 230 bpm, high school. HIGH SCHOOL. Honestly I m not sure i got them chops still
Here on Utube type in Emanuelle Caplette snare solo and you will see the fastest cleanest single strokes I’ve ever seen and amazingly played with the German grip- This is unusual as this speed is usually only achieved using the French grip.
It's more like american grip, she's certainly fast and clean but she's far to be the fastest, and like so many drum teachers she doesn't explain how she uses her fingers to reach higher speeds
sounds amazing of course. As an old man I learned rudimental drumming. as a result I use a traditional grip and would like to know if there is a different technique for the left hand.
The thing I've never understood about the single stroke roll is when you're getting faster do you start pushing the stick with yout finger or do you just use you wrist and let the stick on bounce on the fingers?
hey jared, your videos are realy cool :-) but i have a question :-)) why don't you use a rack instead of all these cymbal stands; i think it'd be much more comfortable for you, wouldn't it????
Syncopation´s 16th note pages (20 to 21 I think) are also great for speed development. Play the sixteenth notes as singles, doubles and paradiddles and continue adding tempo to the metronome. The 20 bar exercise is very motivating to play with the click. You´ll notice very fast development.
Great video. Great single stroke rolls, too. For my part, I can sit at my practice pad and just practice various rudiments until the cows come home. I feel like you can never be good enough or too good at these things.
do you bounce the stick back with your fingers when you're at the faster speeds? also, i think the most impressive thing you did was being able to switch between the tempo so smoothly :P
I dont understand being quicker at doubles than singles, i know why but I find the double stroke practice tedious where my singles are flying through just playing, but of course they need practice. Might have to hit up a teacher to learn dbl bounce
I don't agree with this method of dropping the sticks and letting each note be weaker than the previous in a fade. You need to have control and not a fade away bounce. Strive for a consistent level. Yes, your wrists and fingers are working to do that, but that will gain you the endurance to play a single stroke roll at a longer interval than bursts. And yes, I agree with Jared, it takes a lifetime
@freedrumlessons Hey thanks for making all these sweet videos. They really help! Do you have any videos explaining the Moeller technique? If not you should definitely make one
am a beginner may be its a silly question ,,but can someone tell me wat is more difficult to do wat jared did in the video or playing a breakbeat song?
@freedrumlessons i have been practicing single & double stroke roll for quite some time now. my main problem is my weaker hand (left one) isn't as fast & agile as the right one, and doesn't last as long during rolls. do you have any more tricks to help me practice my hand ?
Hello mr.Jared.I want to ask you about this single roll stroke.Everytime i bring it faster,my hands would became tense especially the wrist and it will come to the whole arm.And it affects the speed of the roll,or the beat. How can i overcome this problem?
You should get more cymbals.
ikr
Sponsored. You get as many as you ask for.
Yeah it’s lacking

😂
Phew! For a minute there, I was worried he wouldn't have enough cymbals to explain this technique. ;-)
mrSpatcat ruclips.net/video/AOUYvJekzBI/видео.html
Bro has like 4 splash cymbals💀
crazy right? its almost like he doesn't actually need them for other stuff he plays
I like how he pretended 120 bpm was gonna be a challenge for him
nick dell
nick dell
That’s true , he played 32th notes , that’s means 240bpm 16th note, it’s too fast to me.
nick dell ruclips.net/video/AOUYvJekzBI/видео.html
Caught that too
Started with 60 bpm which was very hard at first. Now 80 is very doable. Hopefully before this year ends 120 bpm will be a piece of cake. Just do it. ✅ Thanks Jared.
1y and I haven't progressed yet. Need more practice. But my coordination doing better on drums. Need to be more consistent.
Great quality content as always. I recommended your videos to my students, and also I get a ton of ideas form you when I work with them. Great stuff man.

Hi Jared,
thanks very much for this lesson,
please could you tell me what the difference is between a single stroke roll and a buzz roll?
You rock, Jared

Thank you for this single stroke lesson. Helpful.
you are a great drummer! gretings from Argentina!
Jared, fantastic your exercises, i really appreciate

Personally, for me, this has always been a very difficult roll to get right.
MrChrisdrums hard to play the single stroke roll schwiftly

DrMcScroogle Good sound
great for hands and feet

Slower = faster is the best lesson I’ve ever learned as well 😂
As per usual Jared nice lesson. Oh my lunch that kit at the end sounds sublime

@kopitayable It is a combination of everything, fingers, wrists, and arms.

Hope you figured that out in the last 5 years mate?
hey jared,
your videos are realy cool :-)
but i have a question :-))
why don't you use a rack instead of all these cymbal stands; i think it'd be much more comfortable for you, wouldn't it????

Do you use your fingers or your wrists when doing the roll?
Great lesson Jared as usual this is a life long practice that you can always improve on
I dont understand being quicker at doubles than singles, i know why but I find the double stroke practice tedious where my singles are flying through just playing, but of course they need practice. Might have to hit up a teacher to learn dbl bounce
Nice video
thanks for the lesson but i just wanted to know how you can apply this to your grooves. i can easly hit 150bpm
Jared, at 5:57, are you playing the four stroke rolls in single hits? or are you playing two hits with each hand?
I don't agree with this method of dropping the sticks and letting each note be weaker than the previous in a fade. You need to have control and not a fade away bounce. Strive for a consistent level. Yes, your wrists and fingers are working to do that, but that will gain you the endurance to play a single stroke roll at a longer interval than bursts. hey jared.. are you using double strokes? or just pushing the stick down wth your hand or fingure?
theres nothing hard in being a musician, if you can play an instrument, then your a musician.

I've heard of people just practicing purely their left hand for 20-30 minutes a day just to speed it up and ignoring the right.
am a beginner may be its a silly question ,,but can someone tell me wat is more difficult to do wat jared did in the video or playing a breakbeat song?
@freedrumlessons i have been practicing single & double stroke roll for quite some time now. my main problem is my weaker hand (left one) isn't as fast & agile as the right one, and doesn't last as long during rolls. do you have any more tricks to help me practice my hand ?
