You should get more cymbals.

Yeah it’s lacking

😂
Phew! For a minute there, I was worried he wouldn't have enough cymbals to explain this technique. ;-)
mrSpatcat ruclips.net/video/AOUYvJekzBI/видео.html
Bro has like 4 splash cymbals💀
crazy right? its almost like he doesn't actually need them for other stuff he plays
I like how he pretended 120 bpm was gonna be a challenge for him
nick dell
nick dell
That’s true , he played 32th notes , that’s means 240bpm 16th note, it’s too fast to me.
nick dell ruclips.net/video/AOUYvJekzBI/видео.html
Caught that too
Jared, you need more cymbals. You're lacking cymbals
+Samuel kajah 10\10 for the comment mate

Personally, for me, this has always been a very difficult roll to get right.
MrChrisdrums hard to play the single stroke roll schwiftly
Hahaha, very good!
DrMcScroogle Good sound
Roses are red, Violets are blue, I hate rhyming... Zebra.
@leopulga I use Pro-Mark 707's which is Simon Phillips signature stick.
HOLY FALK !

hahahahaa awesome shirt!
@MetallfrankOs Yes, this is part of my main job. We publish DVDs and online member sites for drummers as well. Check out the link in the description.
I don't agree with this method of dropping the sticks and letting each note be weaker than the previous in a fade. You need to have control and not a fade away bounce. Strive for a consistent level. Yes, your wrists and fingers are working to do that, but that will gain you the endurance to play a single stroke roll at a longer interval than bursts. And yes, I agree with Jared, it takes a lifetime
could you make a video to help people who find double stroke rolls difficult? i swear i'm not a drum noob lol.
Is this a good exercise for drummers who play traditional grip?
Sure is!
Endors ruclips.net/video/AOUYvJekzBI/видео.html
@thtdudewiththehair I already did. /watch?v=FZtcz__OmFA
@kopitayable It is a combination of everything, fingers, wrists, and arms.
ive got a problem i always start with left hand naturally (im right handed) on drum rolls... i play normally right handed setted kit but always do this..... is it ok or i need to do something with it ?
It's always great to know how to do rudiments leading with both hands. I suggest you practice drum rolls with a right hand lead and a left hand lead.
@TheProphetOfWrath take a look at snorgtees, just google it ;-)
Drum-life changing. Okay I am lame but it's true.
Salty Candy we all start from the bottom bro I've been playing by ear for a long time. and I want to elevate to another level.
Salty Candy ruclips.net/video/AOUYvJekzBI/видео.html
great for hands and feet
@xXWhatUpDocXx Yah, I always switch. I'm using the Speedcobras now.
@anurdrums Thank you! It's awesome to hear of teachers using the lessons with their students as well. - Jared
Hi Jared,
thanks very much for this lesson,
please could you tell me what the difference is between a single stroke roll and a buzz roll?
I didn't know he did either. Cool story bro.
Great quality content as always. I recommended your videos to my students, and also I get a ton of ideas form you when I work with them. Great stuff man.
@Jaydog7507 NEVER!
Would this be conducive to rummer if they played it on the toms?
The-Other Drummer ruclips.net/video/AOUYvJekzBI/видео.html
The thing I've never understood about the single stroke roll is when you're getting faster do you start pushing the stick with yout finger or do you just use you wrist and let the stick on bounce on the fingers?
Hope you figured that out in the last 5 years mate?
I dunno… I don’t think this is the greatest technique for beginners. It is basically an offset Moeller stroke, two things that are actually pretty tricky for beginners and not 100% necessary either. They lack control, and power, and skip the process of developing hand to hand evenness at variable tempos. Building the single stroke roll up from a slow tempo, gradually, while constantly maintaining control and evenness, not entirely passive until the higher tempos, after which the student will have spent countless hours, gradually switching from wrist, to fingers, to bounce techniques, …Just my opinion, but important distinctions I think.
I cant play double strokes, but how do you use your fingers during a single stroke roll?
its really good, but you talk to much!! more technique!!
I'd love to blast on that kit
thanks for the lesson but i just wanted to know how you can apply this to your grooves. i can easly hit 150bpm
@freedrumlessons i have a problem...i play very good drumms but i really cant play fast...and i think that i am a useless drummer at all...i try everything to play fast and i can make a fast triple thing...:@ im mad mate...pls tell something..should i quit drumms?(i really love them)....
ahhm jared.. i just really need help with the clicker, not that i hate it but where can i download or any source you know for clicker that i can use something i just heard here? i wanna practice with the clicker. hope you could help id really appreciate it.
thanks i found new one
am a beginner may be its a silly question ,,but can someone tell me wat is more difficult to do wat jared did in the video or playing a breakbeat song?
freakin AWESOME!! very helpful. i got a bit confused, at first i was letting both sticks strike 4 times, then i looked slower, & i think i see you doing all single stroke rolls. so it Is RLRLRLRLRL yes?
No offense at all, but Jared Falk kind of looks like Dan Brown.... from the Rubik's Cube tutorials, etc. etc.
120bpm. takatakatakatakatakatakatakatakataka alkfhelskdjfhsuhdfkdlfkh takataka
Just dropping the stick is step #1. OK. Seems to me that should be in double or more strokes.
So, finger control for speed is maybe in #4? I’ll look (last chance)
Your hands at 1:57 look like single strokes but your explanation suggests you are teaching a Moeller roll--which is NOT a single stroke roll. Getting three rebounds by dropping the sticks would not translate into doing single strokes around the toms, for example.
My two cents.
theres nothing hard in being a musician, if you can play an instrument, then your a musician.
its hard being a good musician >:]
I've heard of people just practicing purely their left hand for 20-30 minutes a day just to speed it up and ignoring the right.
nice youve helped me a lot on this and i do also have to comment on
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I hate rhyming

Epic
The amount of his cymbals arent cympal (wink) is he trying to cymbalize something to us?
i just play the fills in green day's american idiot over and over again, its a hell of a workout but great fun
@666111 hey jared i would like to learn how to control my balance on the drums when im playing fast music?
my single stroke roll is good, I suck at my double stroke rolls though, make a video about that please
Dude, where do you get your shirts! hahaha
would you say being a drum teacher like yourself earns enough money to support yourself and a family?
NICK SWARDSON! thats who you look like...ive been trying to figure that out for like six of your vids
So... That quick group of four, would this be a four stroke roll? 🤔
hey jared.. are you using double strokes? or just pushing the stick down wth your hand or fingure?
Started with 60 bpm which was very hard at first. Now 80 is very doable. Hopefully before this year ends 120 bpm will be a piece of cake. Just do it. ✅ Thanks Jared.
1y and I haven't progressed yet. Need more practice. But my coordination doing better on drums. Need to be more consistent.
i was referring to making money supporting yourself and a family as a musician. that is hard..
Jared, I want to learn funk / hip hop drumming online. Can you give me direction please?
Such good technique and sound. Great lesson, Jared!

Why does your 60bpm faster than my bpm and what I found on RUclips?
You rock, Jared
Thank you for this single stroke lesson. Helpful.
its NOT SINGLE.. and sorry you are out metronome and good sound
Very helpfull!!!! Just one question... Which app you use in your video? Thx in advance!!! Greetings from germany Christoph 👏👏👏👏👏
While doing it .the finger movement.i mean.should i only move 3 fingers.im moving 4 fingers is it right?
Jared, fantastic your exercises, i really appreciate
What DW kit is that? Eco X?
ruclips.net/video/AOUYvJekzBI/видео.html
He is not pushing the sticks down buddy... He is putting fingers on lol
That's good!
I hate rhyming... ZEBRA! lolz
The hardest part is always figuring when to drop one stick right after the other..
Ho Dac ruclips.net/video/AOUYvJekzBI/видео.html
Play like a flam and let the sticks bounce
That’s why it’s not really a very effective technique for learning the single stroke roll, IMHO, despite the demonstration, it lacks the empirical knowledge and control of alternating strokes. A single stroke roll is not just an offset multiple bounce.
Hes not using double strokes, hes just pushing the sticks down =)
Just did that...on a friggin pillow...man pillow is the way to go
@thtdudewiththehair i have the same problem like u in single....
Freakin AWESOME!!!
I drewled when I watched him do the 120bpm!
Hello mr.Jared.I want to ask you about this single roll stroke.Everytime i bring it faster,my hands would became tense especially the wrist and it will come to the whole arm.And it affects the speed of the roll,or the beat. How can i overcome this problem?
This could be a silly question, but I've been playing for like 7 yrs and I play w/ the kit set up lefty. My first stroke though comes from my right hand. Have I been doing it backwards and hindering myself for years?
+keebaeklim It depends on how it feels! I'm right handed but when it comes to fills down the toms, I like to start with my left that way I can get back to the snare at the end of the fill quicker and easier. All depends on what you're trying to do, and after 7 years I'd say do what's comfortable.
Hey, I have the same "problem" :D I bought an exercise pad to improve my speed and always started with the left hand. after three months I played my rolls nearly fluidently, so I would say just a matter of time. I think it feels a bit better to have the left hand as the "leading" hand
Naturally a righty. I fractured my right ankle and cant keep a solid beat w/ it, so I learned lefy
Adamın davuldaki ziller bizdeki drum shoplardaki kadar.
Roses are red. Violets are blue. Drumming is hard. Zebra.
Check out GKdrummer. He has the sickest push pull technique videos, the idea is to turn the double stroke motion into a constant flow of 8th notes with each hand, using the french grip. You have nasty standard grip, but check out the french grip! Peace and thanks!
I've been drumming for 1 & half years now and i play metal and some Travis Barker stuff with involves pretty fast and long single stroke rolls. My speed is good but my coordination and stamina isn't there... Am i training a little too tough or should i be more experience for these stuff?
Do you use your fingers or your wrists when doing the roll?
That thumbnail is priceless. lol
I dont understand being quicker at doubles than singles, i know why but I find the double stroke practice tedious where my singles are flying through just playing, but of course they need practice. Might have to hit up a teacher to learn dbl bounce
The body will respond to your wishes with practice. Practice harder, but don't forget technique and do not continue if your wrists hurt. Forearms is ok, just muscle fatigue, but joint pain is a no-go. Good luck!
When I see players with alot of cymbals they inevitably have no idea how they can coax many different sounds from a cymbal. There's strikes from shoulder, tip and butt, there's slides, edge strikes, bell strikes, bell vibrato, choke catches, choked taps, rolls, etc. I would recommend to any drummer to sit with one cymbal in front of them and play it without the drums. Really figure it out alone as an instrument before you buy and throw up a bunch of cymbals to a drum kit. Then of course you can add different type, size & weight cymbals for the sound you want. But you're never going to convince me that you need as many as I see here.
hey jared,
your videos are realy cool :-)
but i have a question :-))
why don't you use a rack instead of all these cymbal stands; i think it'd be much more comfortable for you, wouldn't it????
'' Roses are red and Violets are Blue '' - No Shit
Where does he get all those shirts... Just wondering
lets hear some 160 bpm! :D

Jared, I know you are a busy guy, but I hope you can answer this for me. In the beginning of this lesson, you show how to get groups of 4, 6, and 8 notes with 2 strokes. I have the timing pretty fluid. But what I am having a problem with is when I get up to 120 bpm, I can't tell if you are doing groups of 4 notes twice or a single group of 8 notes for the 32nd note rolls. What is happening here? Thanks!
Disregard speech impediment, acquire drum skills.
Can anybody tell me what the difference is between a single stroke roll and a buzz roll?
Thanks
A single stroke roll is made up of individual hits, one hit with each stick. a buzz, or “multiple bounce stroke“ roll is created by dropping the stick with a slight amount of pressure, and staying down on the drum head, so that you get several to many, let’s say 6 to 15 bounces out of each stroke, and overlapping them (each hand comes down to execute the bus stroke before the other hand has stopped executing it’s buzz stroke), so as to hide the entrance and exit of each stick.
Danm Jared, the kit is looking really good these days! What did you add on to it since the last video you made about your kit.
@freedrumlessons i have been practicing single & double stroke roll for quite some time now. my main problem is my weaker hand (left one) isn't as fast & agile as the right one, and doesn't last as long during rolls. do you have any more tricks to help me practice my hand ?
JJAARRED! Just a question. I've been playing drums for 9 years now and and i can get my single stroke rolls relatively fast (don't know how many bpm sorry) and ever since i started watching some of your technique videos and others like this i've noticed that my left wrist (when playing faster rolls) is tilted/twisted counter-clockwise and my right wrist is in the correct position. Should i try and change my technique for my left wrist as it does have some effect changing to other rolls or not?
