- Jon Ortiz is one of the iconic rollerbladers who started pushing the envelope of what was possible on skates in the 90's. One of the first pro street skaters out of NYC, Jon knows all of the best spots to skate.
In this video, Jon and I skate from the Plaza Hotel, making our way downtown and check out an old-school skate spot that many NY skaters know and love. We had a blast, and I hope you enjoy this video of us just flowing through the city with skates on.

You and Bill motivated me to get skates at 32 after not skating for 20 years which has launched an entire fitness journey for me! I didn’t realize how out of shape I’d gotten in my hip flexors and glutes (one legged stability). I’m on week 3 of tracking diet and working out and I already feel great. Doing calisthenics for full body mobility and speed skater exercises for legs! Also stretching A LOT!

I got pistol squats but my ankle mobility is a bit shot after repetitive skateboarding injuries. I'm thinking of getting skates after watching this for that freedom feeling you get

Those areas in Manhattan definitely look nicer than I remember them ! I moved out of the States in 2011 so it was fantastic watching you skating and the pretty sceneries ! Towards the end when you were skating backwards , talking to the camera yet looking behind you all at the same time is indescribable ! Watching your video made me feel like I too was on an adventure ! Thank you for sharing this really super great video ! Not too many skaters are that talented ! Bro i get what he means about switching frames, whenever i switch the frames it takes a while for my mind to adjust. From big wheels down to aggressives i lean to far and end up cess sliding and my corners arent sharp. From aggros to bigs i lose a bit of balance co-ordination and my push rhythm is thrown off a little
Can you do a video for people looking to get into the sport. Like the different types of skates and wheel configurations and what each are used for? What configuration do you use for your style of skating?
Yoo I wouldn’t have been able to turn it on the first go either. On my skis, that’s a different story. Unless I was already warmed up from Rollarblading and picking up litter for a few hours like I often do I feel invincible

I stutter too bro not bad but every so often .😂😂😂 chicks always said it was sexy lol. Had all the girls with my stutter. I use to make fun of my stutter too and would laugh with my friends. Some advice to help greatly is to read out loud. Will reduce or can even get rid of it completely. , Getting back into skating.😂😂
There seems to be fewer people outside this time of night. Skaters don't usually do stunts at night. But the night time does has its charms and challenges. A perfect night for a little fun.
I miss my childhood days playing even at night in the safety of our community. But I remember, it's fun just don't play hide and seek in a condominium building some hide inside their homes but playing ring the doorbell is a lot of fun because there's a lot of ways to run and hide. But I'm not the perpetrator I just tag along but I ran anyway.

This is so nice to watch, I went to New York on my honeymoon but had a bad experience on day one which put me on edge for the rest of the time so couldn’t really enjoy it. Wish I’d known you at the time so we could’ve been shown round by someone who knew the area and we could’ve really enjoyed ourselves!
