Flash - successful 2023 through hiker here. I was on the AT this weekend at Burningtown Gap doing trail magic. From my experience and talking with the folks in this class, you are carrying too much water. Plenty of water sources so just carry one bottle and refill and drink at water sites. Also, I have a good number of hikers on my follow list and six have left the trail by Neels Gap due to injuries that I suspect come from trying to carry too much weight. Those still on the trail are shedding weight at Neels Gap and/or at the NOC. Had a great time talking to the hikers and heard many times "training hikes are great, but darn that first day on the approach trail will humble the strongest' and it doesn't get much better for months. Best of luck.
Thanks for the intel, and yea, I’ve been carrying much less water than what I reported in that video. I’ve been carrying no more than a liter or so of water at a time. Weighed my pack again at Neals Gap this morning at 28-pounds. There are a few in my current tramily who are well over that 40-pound mark. I have the lightest pack of any of them and I’m bigger than all of them. Thanks again!
Thanks. Almost 200-miles in and it’s been treating me very well. I’ve seen very few people carrying less weight than me, so I feel like my planning was perfect for me. My goal was to not be super lightweight, but light enough to be easier on the body and its joints.
Monday, March 04th: Tag 496! Gear video is always fun! Some good equipment choices! Thanks for sharing! 27 lbs = light! Good luck! Happy Trails! Ross08
Looking forward to seeing some real life use of the X- Mid. I haven't heard or seen anything really positive about carrying umbrellas yet, except one guy one time. For 27 lbs, thats pretty good. I'm exactly 1 year behind you. Happy trails.
I get a lot of funny looks when people see the umbrella, and a lot envious looks when the umbrella is keeping me comfortable in pouring rain. You still need rainwear, but I won't leave home without it. YMMV
Nice load out. Was thinking about the Durston pro 1. Can I ask how tall are you? I have heard the 1 pro feels larger than the silpoly 1 due to being a single wall.
Thanks! So I’m about 6’2” and about 225 pounds, for reference. With the pack in the large vestibules, I’ve got enough room to roll around just a bit. It’s not super spacious by any means, but it works for me.
Appreciate the comment. So far it’s worked beautifully for me. We cross the 100-mile mark tomorrow, and I’m tickled t death with how it’s been treating me.
Great question. I’ve got the Altra Lone Peak 7’s right now. They’re treating me plenty well so far. Now that the Lone Peak 8’s are out, the 7’s in my size (14) are hard to find. 😬

Thanks Ross08!! I’m definitely the lightest in my current tramily. At least three or four of them are packing 38 to 47-pounds.
About time right! Good luck to ya, God Bless
🙏🏻
Good luck!
Thank you!!
Great loadout!! 27lbs is awesome!!!🥾🥾😎🏕️
Thanks. I think so! Definitely the lightest pack in my 6-person ‘tramily’.

Thank you! Yep, tent use will be coming more frequent as the shelters become more filled with snorers. 😂
Stay tuned!

@@davidprovost3537 cool. I'm just more focused on keeping the weight down. But, lots of places to buy one.
What shoes will you be wearing ?
Are you taking sunglasses ?
Starting with Alta Lone Peak 7’s. I do carry cheap sunglasses because I’m prone to break them. 😂
Why did u change from the gossamer pack and the 6 moon tent?
The change from the SMD tent was simply to cut more weight. The SMD weighed about 27 ozs and the XMID was around 16 ozs.

Stove? Cook kit?
Yep, 750ml Toaks pot with lid and the MSR Pocketrocket Deluxe stove! Works great so far…
Great gear but that pack is way too small for the gear you have. I have the 40 and the 55. That's a great pack but I just don't see it.

Awesome just wondering. I use the lone peaks but mostly olympus because I live and
hike in rocksylvania.
Good luck on your hike have fun💪
You are screwed. Way too much gear. Good luck
😂
