Now where were we mate?!... baws deep in the ballast with those crack Goon gruntz as I recall lol. Goon command ain't happy; Frank and his rat pack have given 'em a bloody nose by virtually annihilating the first section of elite troopz sent in to probe 'n' conquer. So thank f**k they decided to turn up mob handed with squaddie-grade muscle (ain't that a rousing sight as the lights go up at 0:03); it's defo 'no more Mr. Nice Goon' here on in.
I always loved it that the few battle hardened troopz who survived the mauling given to Section #1 were allowed to sit out the next round; the officers should have had 'em shot on the spot for dereliction of duty of course, but we can't have it all lol. It's ace to see Sections #2 & #3 (jog on Herr Offizier 0:18) given their marching orders and that strong arm tactics are the order of the day with die Fab Vier Grenadier Goonz (heavy sacs bulging lol) leading from the front at. Check out 0:28's text-book 'fkn 'ave some' grit 'n' wrist action as he goes full-toss with scant regard for any wounded troopz amid the bullet-torn remains of Section #1. What a trooper mate; and it's worth pausing to mention match-fit 0:33 as he looses one off and has to steady his shooter with both paws, and the tall lad who's last to let go at 0:38 before they leg it - each a load lighter.
Who can blame Howard for wanting to see as many pumped-up Goon ladz as possible fully exposed before he shoots, and when he shows his hand at 1:02 it's hard knowing that die Fab Vier ladz are among the first to die Fire! Fkn love the lead grunt showing some shiny shaft when he gives his boots an airing as the vanguard is torn apart, and those 1:07 flankers always catch the eye. As the Goon losses mount, Herr Untersturmführer feels it and rubs up against a spent trooper at 1:11 and check out wide-mouth jolted off course and scythed down on the run. Those Goon flankers score a well-worked hat trick at 1:13 and it's ace to see Frank take out a trooper before turning over a spent grenadier 'n' lifting his sac.
Always love seeing those spent gruntz littering the tracks and getting rocked by the force of Howard's discharge at 1:44 and Goon command sending Section #4 troopz over the top at 1:46. If I'm allowed a 'stiff of the match', I'd like to nominate the foremost trooper pawing his helmet at 1:56 (and 2:06 lol) and Allied lad 1:59 kicks off nicely when he's stung by a searing burst of Goon load. Said hot load takes three more besides and rubs Howard up the wrong way (top gunning at 2:05 Trev!!).
I can only imagine the devastating effect that Frank 'n' Co's repeated tossing has on the Goon troopz deployed tunnel-topside - it must be a right f**king mess up there mate. Blast torn Goon Grenadier 2:17 caught in the act as he primes 'n' winds up to loose one off always gets me; that hande-hoch surrender and headlong exit is one of my abiding memories of this action. I'd forgotten though that the battle of the tossers ends with a consolation score for the greys when Franks mate takes the hit exuberantly after handling a primed Goon stickie lol.
If you leg it Frank - you'll catch that train no probs mate... Maybe not then lol. The ever-gritty Mann who hands over his MP40 to the Standartenführer stands out, and surely that's another slack-jawed cuz of Slacko's on the boss's left shoulder after Frank's taken the killer load and 'I told you so' post mortem. I've always noticed the Mann on the Standartenführer's right shoulder too; straighten your fkn lid lad before the Untersturmführer gives you a slap lol!!
That is always such a solid watch A, but like I said after Part #1, I don't think I've ever seen it look this good. The troopz especially (and I know 'em like my bro's) have never stripped fitter than in this Blu-ray light I'm in awe of you mate; thank you for sorting it - you always do us proud!!

"And now, the end is near, and so I face the final curtain" - In Frankie Boy's/Von Ryan's case never were truer words sung 😁! I wish I had been caught "baws deep in the ballast with those crack Goon gruntz" from the last cut mate but we can but dream eh?! The Goonz were never going to give up without a fight after the first match, not if they had anything about them, and these are the elite mate, so it's onto extra-time with the second team and added support and the game should be a good 'un. I was definitely "roused" by the sight at 0:03 J that's for sure!!!!
Yeah, it was nice of them to give the survivors or Squad 1 a time-out (aye, waste 'em all lol!) but the replacements are no mingers nor slouchers mate - top-grade fuelled-up hardened Goonz if ever I saw them, to a man. I think Der Offizier looking so eager to keep up with the Gruntz at 0:18 (and who can blame him for that?!) is the same Offizier rubbing against that trooper at 1:11 - I do like a bit of brass willing to put himself up with the small fry mate. Die Fab Vier Grenadier Goonz (brilliant mate!) are magnificent ain't they, and those sacs are not alone in bulging I can tell ya 😈! I do enjoy a good toss-off and 0:28 has the wrist-action off to a fine tee lol, and I was thinking the same when I watched this J - if any of the initial vanguard were merely injured out front those grenades were going to finish 'em off! And these are their mates?! Tosser 0:33 was one of my top-menschen J and I'm stoked you picked him out as a highlight - he's the fucking biz ain't he, immaculately turned out in Grey, tossing-off like a trooper and he has a firm sprayer-supreme's grip of that MP40 into the bargain. This is a True Goon for me!!! Love the grit and determination here as they all toss-off (0:38 was another that caught the eye!) and then it's last one out's a Hähnchen!
Yeah, in Howard's boots I'd have taken a long "hard" look at the prey too J. It is indeed the final curtain for Die Fab Vier Grenadiers as Trev and the lads let rip with a blast of searing lead that chops 'em all down as one, the lead grunt catching the eye, as do the support act giving it some welly at 1:07. The big open-mouthed Grunt taking his load at 1:12 is another that brings a sharp focus, but retribution is swift and three of the "good guys" get some Goon lead in their bellies and it's lights out for them. One of them couldn't even wait to make his exit complete, rolling down the hillside to fuck knows where lol. Frankie Boy just couldn't resist that Grenadier's sac could he mate?!
Howard's discharge is indeed potent at 1:44 (not least for tail-end Karl - he's just wanting to get 40 winks in and some fucker's just tossed of at him lol) and I do like the sight of spent Goonz myself J. What a sight to behold! Now THAT is what I call the 'Stairway to Heaven' at 1:46 and I couldn't disagree on your choice of "stiff of the match" lol. It's a shame for the Brit lad at 1:59 but he does take his load as well as any good Goon, a sure-fire case of "anything you can do, I can do better" if ever there was one, and the peaky behind him grits it out and takes a bellyful to join him. I guess we've got to let the Goonz have the odd victory mate or it would be boring (wasting Goonz is never boring!!!!)?! Somehow I think Brit lad was a fave of the bold Trev coz he's severely pissed off at 2:05 and he lets rip with some venom.
You're right mate, all that tossing is bound to have left a mess topside (I bet lol!) and 2:17 could have been a contender for the post-war Olympics (toss of course!) but sadly BOOM and he's wasted like so many before him - but his exit suggests the diving team may have been his forte after all?! Shame about Frank's tosser mate but at least he got one off before he was slotted lol.
Poor Frankie almost made it but it's the Last Train From Gun Hill for him I'm afraid but he does take his lead with some style. The grit teethed mann handing over his chopper to the Standartenführer was one of the standouts for me too J (that's also him over the Standartenführer's right shoulder as they survey his work at the finish - they just had to be the thumbnail!) and I also noticed Slacko's latest cuz to his left (he looks fucked doesn't he lol?!) and there's plenty more to drool over all round!
I am fucking beaming with that review mate, a "solid" and witty run down of all the finer points and more! You never fail to deliver J and you have done me proud here and then some! You are such a top bloke mate!!!!!

@@foreverblueclassics You consistently hit so hard here mate; I've had these 'top-grade fuelled-up hardened Goonz' on my mind ever since keenly throwing in my lot with 'em last night. Wasting Goonz is DEFO never boring mate!!
As this is a joint Army/Skull operation, I got it into my napper that the Army lad Grenadiers' (they are pure-class mate) apparent disregard for any wounded men among the Section #1 spread of predominantly Skull troopers might be down to some serious beef between the Goon codes. I appreciate that I get way too invested though lol, loving as I fkn do a bit of Goon on Goon activity (which reminds me - that's defo the 0:18 Untersturmführer almost going down on a trooper at 1:11 lol) or any display of a 'fodder mentality' towards the troopz lol.
I think 0:33 (immaculately turned out in Grey, tossing-off like a trooper and he has a firm sprayer-supreme's grip of that MP40 - spot-on mate) gets my overall MotM but I'll take a bit of ruff with the smooth and single out Slacko's cuz as one of my fave troop-types too lol. And is that handful of troopz at the Standartenführer's back all that is left of that mighty Goon force?!! It's hard thinking that may well be the case, but I'm still counting this as a Goon win of course lol.
I'm always proud to nail my colours to your mast A, and it's always special to get your angle on the troopz 'n' tactics. I can't get enough of you fella!!!

@@goontroopz9047 Hitting hard is what it's all about mate, and between the two of us I think we make a pretty solid fist of it all told 😈! These troopz are some of my all-time tops J, especially the first vanguard chopped down in part 1, the tosser at 0:33 and the final group approaching the riddled body of the fallen Frankie Boy, the Standartenführer no doubt already contemplating the inevitable court martial and firing squad that lies before him due to his failure here (I mean, how many Goonz has he lost - 30 to 40 at a conservative guestimate, and possibly more 😁?)!
True re the the ladz tossing off at the fallen vanguard being Heer as opposed to Skullz but with friends like these mate who needs enemies lol?! Any poor bugger suffering on the deck there was probably finished off by the fall-out from those grenades, another black mark against the Standartenführer and his tactics lol. But you can't beat some Goon on Goon I agree and maybe there were a few scores to settle from back at the barrack block right enough?! I didn't miss the Offizier going down on his mann at 1:11 either J and was pretty sure he was the fella leading the troopz to their fate at 0:18, so thanks for confirming. It's a tie between 0:33 and the gritter/lopsided stahlhelmed mann who gives up his chooper for my MOTM mate, but sadly I don't think 0:33 made it through to the end for the post-match inquest over all that went wrong, of which there was much (thankfully!), being cut down in his prime as he exited the tunnel of death with his fellow tossers. There may be a few stragglers back with the choo-choo mate but I don't think many of this fine fighting force (on paper!) made it through to their final destination. But at least they went out in a blaze of glory! In many ways it is a Goon win as at least they got Frankie Boy, though at what cost?!
It's been a treat trading blow by blow obs on this one with you J. It's one of my favourite movies and I'm stoked it's hit you so hard. I can't get enough of this or you either mate!

@@foreverblueclassics I'd throw in the towel boss, but I relish the constant pounding if I'm honest and true Goonz don't surrender of course (lol).
I'd say very few of the elite assault troopz sent into the void or topside survived the all-consuming storm of lead 'n' shrapnel they had to endure; 40 plus Goonz killed 'n' wounded I'd guess. The Standartenführer has defo got some explaining to do, but the 'fodder mentality' will prevail at Goon Command of course and he'll probably get a Knight's Cross.
You're a prize fighter mate and I fkn love the affinity we've got over these troopz 'n' tactics!!

After all, Dietrich lost scores of troops every week in 'The Rat Patrol' without a scratch for himself and it never did him any harm lol.

It’s a classic war movie although no basis in history. One thing many war movies get wrong is that the majority of German soldiers and SA troops were not armed with MP-40 SMGs. Those were primarily for NCOs or maybe Panzer troops because of the confined space in a tank. Perhaps more common among Fallschirmjaeger troops. But vast majority of Wehrmacht & SS troops used the standard K98 bolt action rifle.

    • @foreverblueclassics

    • @Tazza81
      @Tazza81 3 месяца назад

The troops sitting on top of the trains (if that ever happened which it didn't) would have been issued MP40's due to a K98 being a bit too cumbersome. The one thing I don't like about the film is the Me108's been used as Me109's which I found to be really jolting when I first saw this in the 80's as a kid as for any aviation/WW2 geek they are clearly not the same plane and the Me108 was never used in WW2 as a combat aircraft. Would have been much better if they had used the HA-1112

The slow motion is for those who like to see the action in more detail. Some like it, some not. It's up to the viewer if they wish to watch that part, which is why it's tagged on at the end.

I never understood why the Germans were so intent on capturing the POWs before they sought refuge in Switzerland. If the POWs had made it to Switzerland, the Swiss would have interned them, as they did with combatants from all nations that arrived in their country, both Allied and Axis. In fact, the Swiss took their neutrality so seriously that they refused to repatriate Allied air crewman and aircraft until after Japan surrendered, months after the war in Europe ended. Not only would the Germans have avoided all of the trouble of capturing the POWs as shown in the movie, the Swiss would have relieved the Germans of properly housing and feeding them for the remainder of the war.
