COP28 summit opens with reports of early deal on loss and damage fund

- The biggest climate meeting of the year, COP28, is underway in Dubai. Delegates are hoping to secure an early deal on a disaster fund. It is aimed at helping vulnerable countries deal with more extreme weather fuelled by global warming. Jack Board reports from Dubai.

The United States has yet to pay the $50 million it committed to the fund at COP26. The United States also owes $2 billion to the United Nations Green Climate Fund, which funds renewable energy and climate adaptation projects in developing countries.
As of 2022, China was by far the world's largest coal consumer with 55% of energy use, an increase of 2% from the year before.
So China is accelerating the use of coal despite it having signed the Paris agreement.
it's true that China is the worst polluter, but why do you think that is? Could it be because it manufactures like 90% of the things the rest of the world buys, or at least in the US? There is no ethical consumption
How did they get to the meeting?
The world held more and more discussions for climate issues, this may provide high chance to come out a solution to end all the crisis for climate disasters.

This is the equivalent of the head of the KFC making the opening address to a veganism conference.

The fossil fuel exporting countries will ensure that their lifelines are still relevant.
