Those test flights could likely let them get a sense of what wind and drafts were nearby and if it'd be enough to mess him up. Also, that target he flew through is smaller than the actual hole in the mountain. So if he was able to consistently hit the target dead on, that gave a little leeway for small mistakes on the real flight. Also for those asking, generally once they get near enough the ground they deploy a parachute for the actual landing.

Some people say they were just chasing their dreams. Perhaps, they all dreamed of dying young. It that was really the case, I know of many other ways which are a lot faster and simpler.
These wing suits will soon evolve into more of a "falcon suit" with more speed control. But they will probably be spring loaded to be able to spread your wings at such high speeds but still have control the tuck the wings when higher speeds are required.
If this people die doing what they apparently love to do most in this world, is that a tragedy? I cant decide its like there dying doing something so unnecessary but its so much better then dying any other way. IMO
Imagine we humans had the ability to fly from the start of our existence, there would be no need for planes and no need for vehicles for us humans to travel. The only need for vehicles and planes, would be for basic stuff like shipping and carrying a lot of things at once.
