How to Start the Engines and Repair Flight

- You guys ask and we listen, here is how I start the Continental Engines on our Cessna 310. After I show my startup procedures, I make a short flight from Chicago Aurora Airport (ARR) up to Burlington, Wisconsin (BUU) to have my panel lights and annoying audio issues fixed. During the flight up there and back I was able to show how well the SkyTrax605A active traffic works and how the IFD's display weather. We were able to get everything on 1BC fixed just in time for Jaime and I to start our fun New England flying vacation. Stay tuned!!

I always feel like I am flying with a good friend when I watch these flights.
Very cool Ken...that's what we are going for. No script...just turn cameras on and film our general aviation adventures. I do try to show things that are commonly asked for like the starting procedures here.
@@310Pilot your plane is my favorite plane
This has to be one of, or the BEST channel on RUclips.
The
I totally agree!
I’m not a pilot and couldn’t agree more.
I'm not a pilot either but I truly enjoy the travel and the fact that you are both so down to earth personalities. Keep up the great adventures.
Fabulous videos
I am scared to dead of flying but I sure do enjoy this channel. I sit here for hours watching all the videos.
What happened no more flying? You are the only one who cared enough for your subscriber's to show how to fly. I thank you.
Nothin like no statik to make your day. I guess its a never ending process of repairs and updates but all worth it when the bird flies the way you like it. Thanks mate
Always something with these flying machines Spiro. Glad to have the list as small as we do right now. :)
Jaime always makes you smile more when your flying.
Always interesting segments; thank you.
Looks like a beautiful day, nice flight..
such a sweet plane..love what u do..
What I want to know is who and why does someone do a 👎🏻 on this video? The work alone that goes into these videos deserves a 👍🏻. Not to mention that it’s FREE!!! 🤔🤔
The best channel. Period
Beautiful plane. Very very new. Amazing 🤩
Great video as normal Kevin. Thx for all the work you put into the videos here.
Sometimes it’s the “little” things that when we finally get them fixed makes us the most happy!!!
Very much so. In this case after that one night flight with the dash lights out and all the hours spent flying around listening to static and the extra time spent trying to edit it all out...this had turned into a big thing for me. :)
Another nice one Kevin. Thank you !!! 😎👍
Wonderful Video
Best video yet. Thanks.
the engine startup is awesome
Those were great landings 👌 👍 thanks for the great videos and thank you for your service.
Thanks again Kevin, for taking time to create, edit , and for sharing all your always excellent , enjoyable, and very informative videos..
Good evening Kevin. Thank you so much for showing the start up procedure.
Thanks for taking us along Kevin always enjoy it..
Glad you enjoyed it Scott!!
I'm glad to hear that, Be safe........
I always look forward to your flights! Glad to know everything is working now. 👍 👍 👍
Thanks for the support! While with planes like these there is always a few little things that can be improved, I try to keep that list as small as possible.
Glad you got the audio Gremlin finally straightened out. Appreciate the ride along as always.
Thanks for another fun video. I know those little issues can be distracting, so that's great you got them resolved. Looking forward to your New England trip!
new england swing sounds awesome!
...thanks for taking time Kevin...
Thanks for your videos. Really spectacular.
Love your videos
Love your videos.
This is the best channel on RUclips.
Very Informative, thanks Kevin
You are the bomb, I love your plane and videos. I can sit here and watch them all day long. Thanks.
Awesome...thanks for the kind words and support Clyde!
Very Nice trip.
Great vid, Kevin, well they all are, but this one was informative , short n sweet, for this non-pilot. Very nice!
Thanks for showing the startup!
Late night viewing for me tonight. Add always thanks kevin
Hi there, nice 310 class on startup with pictures, and the flight, I totally agree with you about flying low when it’s clear and calm, nice 👍 flying with you again ❤️
Thanks for the preflight checklist vid, and looking forward to your New England trip. My first ever flight in anything was an old 310 in the late 50s. My dad, an Electronics Tech working on some B-52 ancillaries at Holoman AFB back then had a friend who had one, needed work on his radio. After he got it fixed, Rex took Dad, my older brother, and me up. Scared my older brother to death; me? I was addicted, but wasn't able to get my fix till 2005. I can't remember the tail number; I can only remember it was like Sky King's 310.
Thanks for sharing the preflight and startup portion of the 210. Very helpful and informative.
310 I meant not 210
Very thorough, 3,000ft does look good. Satisfying to get everything working properly ! Looking forward to New England... Cheers Don ;-)
Gee, just what someone needs to hear making a 30 foot putt is a twin flying over at 3000 feet, lol. FINALLY! no static... WOO-WHOO!! Been there, done that, paving at a small airport. I drive dump truck and I remember paving a runway at a small public airport about 15 years ago and about 3 years later actually landing on that runway with a buddy who I flew with in a 182 and saying this is a smooth runway, lol.
1BC!...From Buttonwillow,Ca....A Huge Hello 👋 Greeting!...Have some Safe and Happy Holidays !...😃
Very enjoyable. I like the detailed descriptions of your procedures.
I used to fly out of Hobby. Cherokees, Single engine - commercial. I miss it.
Thank you for this. For us non-aviators who enjoy you channel, it’s nice to see the behind the scenes action. Really like learning about 1BC!
Glad you got the radio taken care of
AWESOME....... thank you for sharing awesome videos
Nice short flight, thanks for taking us along. Thanks for showing us the outside at times. You came in a little hot. Yes, we do know how much it means to you and us. lol Can't wait to see the NE trip!
Love your videos and I think this is a great one to show people whom don't fly get to see what we do. When I used to fly all the time people would always ask me why I would tell them to please be quit while I went through the check list! Very important most people who don't fly just think we turn and burn and that is soo far from the truth! Bye the way been following for some time and I love this channel I knew you were a ATC the first video calm and correct on the radio, people should understand the load controllers have it is stressful. You and your wife are outstanding people! Thanks for the job you do you have our lives in your hands more than people think! JB
Great video! Through you, non-pilots have a better understanding of what it takes to be a pilot.
Thanks again for bringing us along Kevin! I really love you continue to take time to share your flights with us! Cant wait to see the New England flight series!
Thank you for the continued support Kyle! Just finishing up the first video. Series should start Friday morning and be a fun one. :)
@@310Pilot Can't wait! Thanks again, Kevin!
Great video ! 👍👍👍
It must be a huge relief to get that static problem sorted, lets hope thats it fixed for good! It was good to see your start up procedure for a change, looking forward to your New England trip!
Love watching you fly that beautiful aircraft. I live near Galt 10C, so it's nice to see some familiar places. Makes me want to start my flight training again, so thank you. Look forward to seeing your next adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it Jim! We fly over the top of you regularly. Good luck on starting up your flight training again!
Thanks. Educational for me as a non-pilot.
Every time you look out the 'office' for us, the view is amazing with the new paint. I've said it in other videos, that paint job is really fantastic 👏 👌 Best looking Cessna for a great channel. Stay safe 🙏
Thank you James! We are very happy with how she's turning out. :)
One thing I've noticed when watching your videos. They are very relaxing, I don't know how relaxed you could be while flying but I have noticed that you are a much happier pilot when Jaime is with you.
You are right Kevin, flying low can be a special treat. I remember riding in C54's etc. I was a jet fighter crew chief back in the 60's and made a few flights on TAC courier planes to repair planes that had to land away from home, and to attend air shows that were using my plane for display. Love your 310 and your videos!
Looking forward to watching the big trip Kev, with you and Jamie... stay safe.
Just finishing up the first video now Graham. The first video in the series should be out Friday morning. :)
@@310Pilot Great. look forward to it as ever Kevin. 👍
Fun Flight
Great Video, thank you
You're welcome Federico...glad you enjoyed it!
Kevin, great video on start procedures. Regarding the traffic calls. The other pilot didn't really have better eyesight but he did have a better viewing position. You were looking down into the ground clutter and he was looking up into the sky so of course he saw you first. LOL. Two things that are very important to me when flying 1) clear glass and 2) great radios. Glad you have the beautiful windows and got that static taken care of. Life is good!! Enjoy your New England trip and if by chance you decide to fly down the Hudson and visit NJ let me know. Until next time, safe flying and be safe and stay well to you and your family.
Excellent, another 310Pilot video is up with all faults fixed!
I always love flying along with you in 1BC Kevin, even if it's 7500nm away in New Zealand. It helps keep a pilot not flying, somewhat sane :)
Glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully ya'll can get back in the air soon down there. Happy summer to you...can't wait to get it back!
I think that was the first time in years that he actually read the startup procedure check list... 😉
Glad you were able to get your audio fixed. As an A&P I can tell ya sometimes things like that are damn near impossible to find unless you get a smoking gun like you figured out with the audio jack.
Now that Kevin has taught us, we can fire up the 310! Great Video as always!
Glad you enjoyed it! Staring it up is the easy part...flying it...that is where the training comes in. :)
Best looking 310 my option in the world.
Great short flight to get 1BC all set for cross country travels. Can’t wait to join you two!
Tough loss for the Dawgs this weekend 🏈
Come on, you always make good landings!
Thanks Daniel! The addition of vortex generators when I painted the plane did require re-learning the landing speeds a bit to get back to where I wanted to be. :)
I'm not a pilot (not yet) but there is something very satisfying about hearing those engines starting up.
Thanks for the startup run through, Kevin! Appreciate you feeding us nerds! LOL Looking forward to the trip!
You're welcome...glad you liked it! :)
Looking forward to your swing over New England. I am an ex-Vermonter and still love the area. Have a lot of relations there. Little town called Ripton, Vt. If I'm correct, this is your first time there. I think you are going to love it. Enjoy. There is a state airport in Middlebury, Vt. 6B0. If you have a chance stop in Middlebury. You will love the little college town.
Thank you Kevin for another great video. And also thank you for explaining your start up procedure, I know I have been one of the ones that has asked for you to show this, simply coming from my curiosity as a pilot. Also, have I ever known a pilot who is always satisfied with all of their landings? 😉😉😉😉
Holy Moly! Thought I was catching on to your lingo, and procedures, then you capure all 1BC s glorious switches and levers at pre-takeoff😃 I got some studying to do before SINGLE engine lesson. Aint no push start cars where you fly. Love the channel 310pilot
Ha ha...like that line in the movie Pearl Harbor. Something like, "ya'll pilots?"...."we're working on it, lots of switches and stuff". :)
How can anyone give these Vlogs a thumbs down
Their interesting, and informative
You have the right to your own opinion and I respect that 👍
Thank you for the support Steven! I learned early on that I can't please everybody...especially on the internet. :)
Nice one 👏 👌
Love the channel, you guys rock 👍🏻. Stop in jersey on your New England swing
Glad you're enjoying it Curran! We already did the trip. I'm just a bit behind on editing. I've been putting out an extra video when able to get caught up on editing. That series starts on Friday and was a blast. It was my first time in that part of the country.
Your 310 is so much better equipped and better looking than the one I flew some charter in back in the mid 70's. As for how it compares to the Aztec I got my multi in, I would rather be in the 310. I am still active, the club I belong to now, doesn't have a twin, they had a Seneca II but it seems to have disappeared. Thanks Kevin.
Interesting start method. I have a 340 with similar engines (other than being TC'd). For a cold start weopen the throttle wide open, prime until we show fuel flow on the engine monitor over 15 gph. Then pull the throttle back to approximate idle and press start. Engine starts in about 3 seconds.
Thank you!
Looking forward to the videos of you and Jamie flying the east coast.
I gotta say Kevin, the landing in Burlington was more of an “arrival”, but you nailed in back at Aurora.
I found you by accident and absolutely love watching. Having grown up near Aurora and now living in Georgia, I feel like I'm watching friends.
Glad you found us Randy! Hope you enjoy some of our past videos and the future ones. I try to post a new video each Friday morning and sometimes on Tuesdays as well if I have extra editing time that week. Much easier to go from N. Illinois to GA than the reverse. :) I miss it down there.
My buddy just tried that shop for a couple of G-5's and an audio panel. So far, we have not been impressed. The attitude indicator was at 5 degrees nose up in level flight (despite the fact that they said it was calibrated correctly). Legally, the certified G-5 needs to be set by a technician (you can't change the pitch yourself). The autopilot used to work, but now it doesn't work at all (although they said that they had it hooked up properly). They even managed to swap the front seatbelt buckles (they are different, so we have to take them apart and switch them back). The biggest problem is that he made an appointment and they pushed him back several weeks. The job took a LOT longer than they said it would, and they kept promising him that it would be done "tomorrow", but "tomorrow" turned in to another week. We will be dropping the plane off again so they can try and get it right, but I'd never use that shop. $14,000 spent for a pretty basic installation, and they blew it.
Hot Dog, pizza for lunch and a bonus 310 episode. It makes for a good afternoon.
I'm not a pilot I just pretend to be one on fsx. Love your channel.
A little rain shower helps keep 1BC nice and clean. Enjoyed the vid.
So on your approach to Burlington, you said you were going to use 29, but used 11 instead. You took off in the same direction you landed, but took off from 11. Not a major issue, but I’m surprised no one else caught it. Nice flight to and from, glad you got your issues fixed. Thanks for bringing us along.
It was hard to tell but it looked like he was touching up the solder there with nothing between the work and the upholstery. Anyway I love your videos and the amount of depth and instruction you give. So much fun to fly with you!
Good job Kevin that was a Squeaker 👍
This old Jet Mech thanks you for the engine start segment. I've had a few sporty engine runs on the F-111 as in hot starts, compressor stalls and Afterburner blow outs :-O
Ha ha...I bet you have some fun stories Tony. :)
Am surprised you answered that guy when you were on takeoff-roll.
Good stuff-Love the vids!
Yeah, I don't usually do any non-aviating on takeoff and landing. Guess being alone on a VFR flight at my home airport lulled me in. :)
When you opened the hanger door, the SHINE was almost blinding! Beautiful bird she is.
Ha ha...love that new paint!
Ha! Love it. You have no idea what this means to me. Been there!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Nice basic video. The little things are the best.
Hope you get to see the fall foliage in New England while your up there.
New England?!?! Welcome to my neck of the woods. I’m in the Boston area. If you are looking for ideas let me know! The Hudson River exclusion in NYC is always a favorite. Enjoy! Safe travels!
Glad you got the comm's fixed Kevin, Need to show a "hot" start. and maybe a cross feed might be interesting for pilot dorks like me
Thanks for this video. Greetings from MMSP.
