Drop a LIKE 😘!!! At the time of the premiere I'll be on a plane to Warsaw for the Kontrast Fest 2024!!! ► kontrastfest.pl/en/ Be lovely and kind as always! 😉See you there in person!😊
pity I wasn't aware of this one. Do you if there are others in Western Europe? I am living in France :)
Good to have you back Marco, we were missing you here.
See you in Warsaw :)
Hmm you're good at hiding, been there for 7hrs today and didn't see you ;]
@@piotrek1v4n I've basically been around the front door the whole day 😅😁😅
You're the only youtuber I watch religiously and go back and rewatch videos including your first video showing off oil painting.
Was not a surprise to me at all that you came away from golden daemon with a gold!!
"Hey hon, Marco says I can use water colors on miniatures. I need to go to the store..."
@@GingerGiant247 🤣🤣🤣 sorry... And check the last video to see them in real action!
Makes me wonder how poster paints would work. They were designed for the illustration/animation industry to work very quickly with rich, saturated, opaque paints that could easily be lifted (removed) from a surface, blended as animation happens, and washed off to start over without buying new film (which wasn't cheap back then). Now, they're not permanent by any means, but neither are water colors. The intent was for the 'permanent' result to be captured on photographic film, or in these days, scanned in. Clear varnish should solve that problem, but I'm not sure if there would be issues with yellowing or fading over time.
Either way, still heavily used in the anime industry by the likes of Ghibli and TRIGGER, if I recall, and are pretty reasonably priced compared to stuff like GW's acrylics. Get a kit of high quality Japanese Poster paints from Nicker (famously used by Anime artists), for about $100. Might be worth looking in to.
I'd worry about the binder for poster paints. They're generally laid down pretty thick yes? I'd worry about the drying texture, but hey try it out if you have it!
I love your "painting with light" and "painting with atmosphere" style of painting!
Cool video! It was great to see this model live and to chat with you for a second! Alla prossima volta!
I'm lost for words watching you paint. Simply stunning )O(
Gouache is fantastic - and blending is so easy, it's like using oils but with a soft damp brush
Marco I really like that your using different paints. I am still new to the hobby and never got in to the whole ''it must be acrylic or nothing else attitude''. I want to use ALL the paints too :)
Thanks for teaching me how to use oils buddy.
Another great video!
YESS, ive really missed your youtube videos being as frequent. please keep doing more of these
You could use this format to reveal the legendary secret on how to paint chaos trim 😂 have fun in kontrast looking forward to the next videos and streams, Murcusin
Hahaha you already know the secret! I'll make that video as soon as I'm back home 😁😉😁
That's so cool! About a year ago I asked in a comment if you thought watercolour could be used like that and now you are doing it. Stunning work and congratulations that things are working out so well for you. You are a source of inspiration and good humour.
I have posted on this and other channels for what seems like years at this point, asking them to cover watercolor as an alternative to oils/enamels - because while they work differently they can achieve similar things. Particularly for what most painters use oils for with slapchop or whatever.
Marco is cool, because he actually uses the tools he covers long term, unlike most channels who cover "this is an oil wash" and then revert to painting miniatures the GW way in the next 10 uploads.
Its great to see more high end painting done on this platform and as somebody who's trying to be in your position, I also spent this year so far doing competition painting. I'm planning a big display at Reapercon this year and its been quite a lot.
Thanks for the commitment to RUclips videos. I wish I could paint with you on Twitch more often, but time will not allow it. I really enjoyed listening to your banter about the random topics the one time I got to do it. EDIT: holy shit on the watercolors! - THAT is the reason I pay you bro! (aside from the mad level of respect I have for you).
Please give us an in depth guide on watercolors!
It will come sooner than later! 😉
Great tip indeed. Thank you for sharing. How would you feel about using watercolor washes instead of your traditional oil washes ? Cleaning could be much easier with water.
It works similarly. It is easier to remove so you can end up with hard edges. Buy some paynes grey and give it a go. Just one tube (don't use pans). Its so straight forward that it would be widespread if more people like yourself just tried it instead of waiting on upload/content schedules.
Yay! Thank you for posting another video, Marco. Please let us know if you end up in America. I would love to take one of your classes.
Great selection on the colors there. Nice and bright.
So happy to hear you’ll be making more videos for RUclips. Keep up the fantastic work Marco!
Really ace to have you back making videos. To be fair your back catalogue is such a treasure trove that at this point it just feels like you're spoiling us!
Wishing you all the best for your painting competitions. If you are feeling the gaming itch again, the Infinity community in Ireland has been really blossoming, especially up north, so if you fancy a game, feel free to come along :)
Would love to see some videos from you painting the new Age of Sigmar box!! Love your stuff, it has had a huge impact on my painting process and makes me a better artist
There’s a good art store 5km from me… watching you talk art supplies is so dangerous for my wallet Mr Frisoni! I’m still working on using up my Montana rattle cans, molotow marker refills, and oil paints. At least if you ever tell me to try Mr Color lacquer I have a head start! 🤣
@pbkobold did you sidestep the scalecolour artist tubes, the kimeras and the liquitex gaouches? 🤣🤣🤣
@@philgee486 😅I'm a huge fan of Golden (both the paint and the company) and to match those three I've slowly bought Golden's heavy body, single pigment fluid, and SoFlat ranges.
@@pbkobold Lol, I've the So flats and I use hi flows as my main mixing inks (with ultramatte to deal with the gloss when not using with metallics lol)
That puts you deeper in than me, mind I went deep into artist oils, so many pigments that I love to use, had to sell my firstborn!
Marco, as always you prove to be on another level! Compliments!
Nice osl... (see the freehand on the back) omg!!!
just got CMY Golden colors and a color wheel from Evan's art supplies. thanks for recomending that place!
Acabo de probar la acuarela en las fases finales de la miniatura y es genial. Gracias
I have been trying to use oil paints on my minis and to say it's just not working. I need to revisit your tutorials. again.
More Skaven! Yes!
Marco you’re one of the best artists I’ve ever seen. Incredible
See you there:) nice that you will visit Poland:) i will find you in the crowd:)
*throws brushes in trash*. Man can you paint!😊
thnx :)
I'm glad to hear that RUclips is still your main platform. Not a big fan of twitch.
Holy Moses Marco!
Two new premier paint ranges in just one week!?!
She's going to lose her mind!
I'm going to have to erase this week's viewing history....
I'll need so many brownie points in the bag - or maybe the lawnmower could "die" again? She never looks in the shed
There is acrylic gouache available so you would not have to varnish.
Have you ever experimented with Schmincke Horadam Super Granulating Watercolor for weathering effects?
Nighthaunt guide please!
Ive been thinking about trying out gouache for a while, and now this gave me the go ahead to try!! Thank you again for all the info you put out into the world
hey hey! i had noticed, before i got some acrylic gouache, just how pigmented watercolor gouache is, my biggest issue is accidentally reactivating it. I did try mixing it with medium and that did seem to make a difference
woah another one
Marcoooohhh!!! How do we find local American painting competitions?
Typical NJM video conclusion: I guess I have to buy more paints...hehe. But the watercolours really sounds nice. Do they work wth acrylic varnish?
Hahaha sorry! 😅 Oh yeah they are 100000% compatible with any water based product!
I've been itching to try out aquarelle for use as washes and shades, they are usually quite transparent and matte and can reactivate. I am pretty sure I'll need to find a more effective thinner than water, probably something with retardant in it, but I'd be able to shade stuff and adjust it before hitting it with a quick airbrushed layer of matte varnish for following steps. a bit like oils but with a controllable drying time.
I use fór airbrush some glycerine , maybe you Can try ? I Saw using coulpe of drops in water fór.airbrush
Just not enough
I need more
Nothing seems to satisfy... ;-)
🤣🤣🤣🤣 You'll be surprised how true that is 😅🤣😅🤣
I wonder if we could use watercolors as wash similar to Marco's iconic oil washes...just without needing to use harsh thinners
You can and with good results! BUT! Sadly water doesn't behave like solvent that's the magic ingredient of the low surface tension movement/entering in every crack and detail
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Try that pledge floor polish thing that used to be popular, it modified the surface tension. Or possibly dish soap.
You're not going to convince me to buy a bunch of watercolor, Marco. Because it's too late. I did watercolor before I did miniature painting and already own far too many 💸
Hahahaha the damage is already done 😅!
Hi Marco - really looking forward to the water color video! Two questions for it when it comes: do you have any concerns with fugitive colors, like Opera Pink losing intensity overtime? I know you're not a big fan of varnish, bar the good solvent stuff - does working with watercolor/gouache change that for you at all?
As he said it remains reactivatable forever. If you are going to game with them you pretty much have to varnish them. Artist watercolor will have a lightfastness rating, so you can tell ahead of time if they will lose intensity or not.
You should look into acrylic gouache, it doesnt water reactivate once tried and they also tend to take a little longer to dry due to the binder being slightly different as its typically a polybutyl acetate blend rather than a polyurethane blend. Turner is a very good brand but hard to find.
Golden soflat according to golden is an acrylic gouache but it's not labeled as that because it's a confusing term, it's just like how high flow is an ink but they decided to not call it that because of consumer expectations and concepts of what an ink is.
Oh yeah, Liquitex Acrylic Gouache and Golden SoFlat are my main tools these days (and I have a set of Turner coming!). I agree, not 100% real acrylic gouache but definitely extremely extremely good acrylics!
Marco uses Golden Soflat and other acrylic gouaches in other videos :).
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Fantastic! I dont consume much hobby content on youtube since I work in the coatings industry so it tends to frustrate me a little for obvious reasons like people suggesting not wearing PPE when airbrushing or putting acrylics over oils.
I'm so used to people refusing to use artist paints for weird reasons, good to see that they are finally getting out there in the hobby and people actually know of the bizarre thing called acrylic gouache.
Turner acrylic gouache keeps hitting hitting high marks in our testing too, so hopefully you'll enjoy it.😜
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Hi Marco - as a regular acryla gouache user on minis, I'd suggest also trying some of the Holbein acryla gouache line. I found some Turner colors could get chalky and dry unevenly even when significantly diluted - the Turner colors have been a lot more like acrylics but so, so intense.
