This is the best looking dry brush power sword I've seen.
One small suggestion. Running the final center highlight could be done more easily by leaving the first piece of masking tap in place and adding a second on the other side - leaving a super thin gap between them to brush over. Perfect, crisp straight line.
I like this new 'no fuss, no muss' method of painting swords! So easy, even a caveman can do it!
That's the idea
Hello caveman here! It's true
@@JuanHidalgoMiniaturesno skill = less chance to make mistake & easy to apply
Skills are good & all, but being consistent is more important😊
Your channel is by far the most approachable and beginner/intermediate painter friendly tutorial painter. .
Thanks
I feel like drybrushing still has more untapped potential. It's one of the most forgiving techniques and is so simple to use. It's like the contrast paint of techniques.
It really is
I'm actually not terrible at dry brushing so watching this has me believe that it's achievable. Especially since you go through the method step by step, showing the progress. I'll be trying this myself.
You most definitely can do it
Perfect timing. I'm having some trouble with the power swords
Happy to help
Yeah same I struggle this will help heaps
Ah its time to Juan-der into the weekend with another awesome vid
😂
Juan, esta serie de zero skill la considero una de las mejores aportaciones a la humanidad hechas desde RUclips. De veras, gracias por estos vídeos :D
Un placer
awesome Tut! i drybrushed the whole Armor of RamMan from the Masters of the Universe Battleground Set and it works pretty well!
I take it you can do this with Necrons...just need to figure out the colors (as well as get the tape and brushes).
I’ve got a lot of power swords to paint and this tutorial came at exactly the right time. Excellent stuff as always! Thank you mate :)
Happy to help
You sir are a genius
Bloody hell Juan, you were always ahead of the game but you are pushing back new boundaries here.
Thanks! That's the idea behind this series
fantastic video as always. brilliant effect and a satisfying masking tape reveal
Wow, can't wait to try this myself.
I just got over worry by trying a molten sword using a similar effect, but the NMM style ripple of light this makes feels like a natural next step for me to try next. Always out the comfort zone!
That's how you get better!
I never going to paint a power sword, but maybe I 've learned something from this again. Gracias Juan!
😘
Niiice. Might as well call this a NMM drybrushing tutorial as well!
For sure, it's essentially the same
Thank you for the step by step👌👍
Thx for showing.
could you do a eavy contrast video series for each of the main house gangs in necromunda?
Beautiful work, will need to give this a try when I finally get around to doing my Dark Angels terminators, those blades need to shine!
Indeed!
Voy a pintar varias espadas con este tutorial. Muchas gracias
Your videos are fantastic, thank you so much for the effort!
Could you possibly show how you would do a similar technique for lightsabers? Legion players would like to know :)
Fantastic tutorial Juan, thanks!
After you mentioned the Artify drybrushes, I picked them up. I haven't gotten around to using them yet, but I definitely picked them up.
I've been using the same 3 brushes and two make up brushes for like a year (my curled up synth detail brush for like 4 years). It's time to retire those race horses.
Thanks
This series is an epiphany truly. This is gonna help me not only with a few swords on my new space Marines but with doing the energy blade on my necron destroyers! All the thanks JH!
Happy to help!
Thanks again Juan !!
Love your work and pedagogy
I have never been able to make a good looking power sword, but damn I'm going to try this out
Please do!
The edge highlight with the tip of the brush being held perpendicularly to the sword is nightmare fuel.
I was shaking watching it haha
I live at the edge
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures 2edgy4me
Love the ‘innit’ haha! Now we know where you learned your great English! ❤
Lol
Just so you know it was Weston-Super-Mare funny enough
Cool. Looks great. I could use some more instruction on the dry brushing the small parts, like when adding the white. This should help though on my Blade Guard Veterans I'm finishing up for my DA combat patrol. Only the Captain and 2 of the BGVs till it's done! Took me 6 months though. I paint very slowly
Very nice result, and very approachable. Thanks for that.
Happy to help
Wow thanks , and just four paints stunning , next to my make up brushes the artify dry brushes are my go too set as well.
Gonna try this on some necron hyperphase blades, looks awesome.
Thanks
Great video. Could you make a playlist with the zero skills videos 🙏
Awesome - as always - great how it comes togther and you have to have confidence
Thanks
Wow. Ok I have been looking for a tutorial like this. Power swords have been my biggest failing.
Thank you for putting this out.
this is really useful thank you
Amazing. Good work!
Otro vídeo genial, Juan! La espada quedó crispy crispy 👏👏👏
Gracias
Very nice will give this a try on my Bladeguard, thanks
Perfect!
Outstanding tutorial, Juan!
Gracias
Haha - I love the genuine shock at how good it looked when you took the tape off - priceless!!
There are things you can't fake. That's why I record my Audio while I'm painting
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Definitely the highlight of my day - excuse the pun
Muchas gracias Juan por este pedazo de Vídeo !!! Queda Genial esa Espada 🗡️, qué opinas, se podría hacer igual con pincel seco pero un NMM?
Muchas gracias y un saludo !
you're making us peons better painters, thanks !
I love these power weapon paint guides 🎉
Thanks
Thank you for your great tutorials
Thanks for watching!
Awesome tutorial! 🥇
Thanks
This is gonna be good !!
Thanks mate
Awesome tutorial!!
Thanks
Fantastic tutorial
Thanks mate!
What sorcery is this! This looks amazing! Do you think those brushes help with the DB smoothness? Great video Juan 👏
Oh for sure the brushes help. The hair is very soft and makes for a smoother result.
I want to try this with red. I actually used a kind of sloppy pseudo nmm with a green contrast paint and it had a cool power glow effect
Nice
Me ha gustado esta forma de hacer transiciones con pincel seco. Voy a probarlo con naranjas y amarillos en los cuchillos de plasma de unos yaegir que estoy pintando.
Genial!
Epic work, I wonder if I can adapt it slightly to use 1mm pinstripe tape for different effects.
Inspirational :)
You most definitely can!
Holy hell does that look good, amazing stuff man.
I'm struggling with painting bolt rifles for my Sisters of Battle currently, the flat sides of the bolt gun make the end result of painting them look a bit boring, especially compared the more interesting shapes of their armour and accessories, can you remember if you've done any videos that include painting a bolter? Or, if not, how would you go about making a rifle have the same eye-catching, jaw-dropping effect of something like the power swords from this video? They look soooooooooo good. Thanks for the tutorial!
Nah, bolters are boring AF, I have several videos of painting marines but bolters are always boring
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Hahaha, glad to know it's not just me 😅 Fair enough. Thanks again for this tutorial, amazing stuff
Qué guapo el efecto NMM sólo con pincel seco!
Tengo que pintar mi nuevo Kill Team de Yaegir y creo que lo voy a intentar con el de los cuchillos
Dale caña
very smart. I should try it next time, instead of my classic Eavy Metal TMM + fun effects habits.
It's so much fun
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Well, not that much work for a really cool result, yes, it takes off a lot of pressure and you gain the fun aspect. Again, very smart ^^
Could you do something similar for guardian spears? I simply cannot get a good look with then and would be interested to see what you do
Do a simple transition on the blade portion and leave the flat dark
Love your videos.
I’ve been stuck on painting a Samurai’s sword, will use your technique, just need to work out what colours to use.
Any suggestions?
Check my nmm guides and use those
Nice!
Can we get a TMM sword guide?
You swore a crusade against blue but you painted it blue, how could you?! 😭 But the sword is nice tho 😁 cool tut as always!
Another great tutorial. Thank you! A question about the use of the brushes. Do you wash them out completely before changing color and then dry them or do you just keep on brushing?
I wash and dry them personally
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thanks!
very nice
Thanks
you are the best!
I KNOW
Se podria aplicar para el NMM ?
What's the joke with Soulstone Blue?

Nah
I think the same thing sometimes. Don't be afraid of screwing up either. You'll learn better. In fact it might be the only way you learn. You should see my sword I'm literally painting right now 😬 Keep on it and you'll get there!
