Thanks for making this video! I followed your instructions and replaced the front brakes and rotors on my 2013 Subaru BRZ with no issues! My caliper and bracket were however a lot more rusty than yours, which made it harder to remove the brake pads, especially the pad on the back. I ended up using a screwdriver + rubber mallet + wd40 to help wedge and tap them out. I had to remove the bracket first in order to the remove the pad in the back because it was being difficult. I also found it helpful to put the new brakes on the bracket before bolting it back on. It took me 2-3 hours to do the first wheel, but then I did the second in about 20 minutes lol! Now I gotta do the back!
yea rust can make things a lot more difficult...but glad u were able to get em done🙂 hopefully the rears go a lot smoother...good luck and thank you for the support🙂

About to buy a BRZ TS model which has the red brembo calipers but standard blank rotors, this will be my first modification the little racer. The best video for swapping brakes for sure.

you helped make my first project on my 86 helpful! although any alternatives to a pad compressor if I don't have one?
U can use c clamp pliers..if u still have old brake pads on..u can even use a screwdriver to spread the brake pads apart from those 2 access holes on the caliper and thatll compress the pistons.
I have often used the handle of my dead blow hammer to pry them open, but it’s a wrestling match compared to using a proper tool👍
A little tip, use Toyota's "lithium glycol grease" or better yet, silicone paste for the guide pins to keep the rubber boots from cracking. Lots of times brake grease won't do for guide pins and Toyota calls for the red stuff :)

Do you use the same procedure for 2022 GR86? Or did something change with the new model?
i have to replace the rotors on my gt86 trd edition and it comes with the brembo brake package. do i have to get tha exact brembo rotor ? or can i get it from a different company ? if so which ones would fit , i would appreciate any help
If I were to buy the “kit” which shows the exact same rotors you have in your link, but for the rears as well will they fit my new GR86 2022? From what I know the first generation fits the second
Cant really say for sure, i know those kits are sold as different kits from the 2017-2022
What about the factory insalled backing plates that are on the back of the original pads? Do those go on also, or do you throw them in the trash?
No those brake pad shims are only for the original, which come with a inner and outer anti squeal shim..the new brake pads will come with their own shim

i post the torque specs whenever i tighten the bolts...but the torque for caliper bracket bolts are 59 ft lbs. and the caliper bolts are 19ft lbs.

Why do u need to clean off rust protecting coating with brake cleaner ? Wouldn’t you want that protection? ( sorry I’m new ) 5:50
That rust protective coating is an oil. If you don’t clean it off, your brake pads will get contaminated with it, and braking performance will be reduced. It’s like adding a lubricant to your braking surface…it’ll make them less grippy, which we don’t want!

The procedure will be the same thats the same year of the one in video..but i believe its the same procedure for 2013-2018's. Thank you:) I also got a video for the rear's too:)
Process is the same for 2017+ models with stock brembos package?
The brembo brakes would be different..i just did a video on a cts-v front brake job with 6 piston brembo's brakes and thatd be similar procedure

Only problem with the rotors is that they will instantly rust where the pads don't touch. Rotors without any sort of coating on them need to be painted first so it doesn't look like crap as soon as water hits the rotors. Just FYI for everyone out there that is about to change their rotors.
Is it normal for the brakes to squeak a bit with no brake pressure applied after installation?
No, they do make a noise the moment u press brake thats different at first because of the brake in period..but any noise should go away..if u get a constant squeak after install without pressing brake..it could be hardware rubbing against rotor or maybe the plate behind rotor rubbing against rotor..i would check those

@@Firstneko1 they felt good although u wont really feel the difference unless u go on a longer drive with repeated stopping then u dont really get that brake fade effect that would happen on originals

Did all that to the T, now one side of my brakes are dragging and getting too hot. The pistons seem fine, maybe I need to flush the brake fluid I think
If u lift it can u spin it? Or is it tight? Well a good brake caliper piston when u press the brake pedal squeezes then pulls back in on its own to keep brakes from dragging..if the caliper is doing that..it could be the brake pads sticking too..make sure they move freely
@@backyardchevy328Yeah I'm able to spin in, I thinking the pads aren't moving freely ether have to shave down the taps or put more lube on it. they are stoptech pads
@@velafresh yea i would make sure to lubricate the pins..and clean and lubricate the hardware on the caliper bracket so the brake pads slide across smoothly

Will the rotor be wobble after installing before putting tire on?
No it won't wobble after installing the wheel, the wheel is what holds the rotor flat against the hub, on certain vehicles they have screws to hold the rotor so it wont do that
Okay haven’t put on tire yet an was wobbly just wanted to make sure that after putting tire that it would hold rotor in place
@@jozeflorez8934 yea i understand, it also wobbles a lot cause the caliper was compressed so it has a lot of space to move around..but if its doing that while ur doing ur brakes..and u prefer it not to..u can put a lug nut against the rotor so it holds it flat during
Also don’t know if you tried putting transmission fluid in but I’m having trouble because I have a pan on the bottom of mine an nobody else seems to have one just wondering if you had some info to help me out
@@jozeflorez8934 those should have two plugs on bottom...the one thats slightly higher will be the fill hole..while the lower one will be the drain hole

The whole time? If so it could be that backing plate rubbing against rotor just bend it back a lil if it is..or the brake hardware not fully seated rubbing against rotor

@@jojomars1000 sounds good..hope its one of those two..it will make a noise as they're driving before the brake pad and rotor break in but it will go away once they settle in..other than that as long as brake pad didnt go in backwards it should be one of those
