    After many years of listening and contemplating it, I finally decided to dive in recreate Daft Punk's classic acid house burner with my modular synth setup. Every sound you hear was created on the gear you see! The drums are hexinverter 909 modules (the sub bass comes from the kick), and some samples on the Squarp Rample (hi hats, drum break, horn stab). The first bassline is on the Novation Bass Station II using some external feedback looping for more growl. The classic 303 line is recreated using my open-source Super Sixteen sequencer, MFOS VCO as an oscillator, Yusynth Moog Ladder Filter, and a SansAmp Para Driver. Some EQ and buss compression was added to the recording.
    Sorry that 25% of the video ended up being the top of my head! Still working on a proper overhead camera setup. Will fix that for the next jam.

    • @extralifedisco
      @extralifedisco  3 года назад +1

      I think I did the decay mod they suggest in their modifications guide, makes it a bit longer. I also applied some compression and parallel processing so that makes the tails a little louder. data.mutantbrainsurgery.hexinverter.net/NeinOhNein_KICK_v1.0_MODIFICATION%20GUIDE.pdf

    Hey, great cover dude !
    Just a simple question : how is your oscilloscope wired with your synth ? This looks amazing !

    • @extralifedisco
      @extralifedisco  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! It's just wired directly, each audio output is multed out on 3.5mm jacks to RCA connectors and then into RCA to BNC adapters on the scope. Probably easier just to make 3,5mm to BNC cables tbh

    This is so dope ! Can you tell me what that tv looking thing does ?

    • @extralifedisco
      @extralifedisco  3 года назад +1

      Sure, it's a vintage cathode ray oscilloscope. It doesn't make any sound, but it displays waveforms on the screen - handy for debugging and sound design, and just fun to have around anytime you're using synths.

  • @erich1394
    @erich1394 2 года назад

    That has got to be the thickest 303-type tone I have ever heard. Can you give me the signal path from oscillator to speaker? How much of that drive is coming from the filter vs distortion after the filter? So crunchy!

    • @extralifedisco
      @extralifedisco  Год назад

      Thanks, very kind of you to say!
      The signal path is pretty typical 1 osc mono synth. MFOS VCO, probably the square wave output (maybe some sawtooth mixed in) going into my Yusynth Moog Ladder filter (DIY module - this is the rarest part, has to be made at home. I'd recommend the Kassutronics filter module kit as it's very similar, or the Boomstar 5089). From there into a RYO VCA and to my output module. From there it goes into a Sansamp Para Driver, then to my audio interface. The Sansamp is a secret weapon, it's an analog amp sim circuit with an adjustable frequency midband boost, can't recommend it highly enough. I use it on synth, bass, guitars, anything. Almost all the overdrive is in the pedal. I think Daft Punk probably used a RAT into a guitar amp but nobody's really sure!

  • @fatuihomicide

    how do you like the sansamp for synths? tried it with any digital ones?

    • @extralifedisco
      @extralifedisco  3 года назад +1

      It's a secret weapon TBH! A lot of synths sound very cold and dry, especially my modular, and the sansamp is just the ticket to get warm them up to sit in a mix, and it also does a good job tightening up the bass to sound punchy. Great 3 band EQ with parametric midrange on it. I use it on just about everything monophonic, haven't tried on a polysynth as distortion and chords sometimes don't mix as well.

    BS2 sounds rad, sans amp distortion?

    • @extralifedisco
      @extralifedisco  4 года назад +2

      The sansamp is on the modular signal for the acid sound - the BS2 lead patch is all in-the-box! Routing the headphone jack back to the external input helps the filter overdrive a bit more
